Sam Simon diagnosed with terminal cancer

Oh, this is really sad news! To know that someone who helped create the show that I grew up with may not be around for much longer just... seems like an impossibility, almost.
I'm really sorry, Sam Simon... I really am.

At least your creation will live on and people will forever remember you.

What terrible news, if only the cure for cancer wasn't held back by the drug companies, with it being natrual they can't patent it and therefore can't make a profit, so they won't release it. You will be missed Sam Simon

Most likely, it will remain as it is. As a co-creator, he's entitled to the credit posthumously. Michael Crichton's name was kept on the ER credits, even though he died midway through production of the show's final season.

Truly sad news. Even though he's been gone for over 20 years, it'll still be a loss for the show.

I only wonder what'll happen to the money. I imagine most of it will go to animal protection causes and charities.

Even though quite a few Simpsons guest voiceover actors have passed away over the years, Sam will be the first Simpsons writer/producer to pass on. I always thought it would be Jim Brooks. What a sad day. He'll be missed. My condolences to both Sam and Jennifer Tilly.

I really hope he may get miraculously better soon, but if not, I hope he knows that we all love him for helping create one of the most influential shows on T.V. and will try to live a great life with the time he has. Yeah, that happens sometimes. Unfortunately that's quite unlikely, though.

Let's all hope that the episode that ends being dedicated to him is a brilliant one, otherwise it'll seem pretty bad. It'll probably be the Season 24 finale or something.

It is obvious that the episode that will be dedicated to him will end up being the first new episode to air after his death.

My question is what if he dies after this years season finale but weeks before the season 25 premier? Do they end up choosing the season premier or no episode at all?

Personally, I haven't liked the "In memory of" announcements ever since the one regarding Linda McCarthny because she only guest starred in one episode and they seem to be selective on which deceased guest stars to honor like this. I mean what criteria do they use anyway?

According to the John Ortved book, he created almost every single character in S1 that wasn't introduced in the Ullman shorts. As well as the town of Springfield itself.

They'd probably dedicate the Season 25 premiere to him, no matter how far away it airs him from his death. Because a dedication is still a dedication.

I hope they play it simple and just have a black and white photo of him with "Dedicated to Sam Simon (1955 - 2013)" written under it. It's better that way.
