Rewatched 'The Lost World: Jurassic Park' for the first time in years (split the viewing up onto two nights). It still holds up and I enjoyed it despite it's a bit lacking at times.

I just saw the last half of Grossepoint Blank. It was okay, but its probably a bad movie to miss the beginning of, because I was pretty confused throughout.

    The Hobbit - 8/10

In this case, special effects > plot, but it was still very entertaining and I appreciate supporting Jackson's work, being the most successful filmmaker in my country. That Gollum scene with the riddles was spectacular, one of the best scenes, as was the final battle. Brilliant stuff

Shame is even better on a second viewing. Absolutely beautiful cinema. What a wonderfully haunting and soul-churning piece of art.

I saw Christmas Vacation again today, and I saw most of The Sandlot, which I had never seen before. Christmas Vacation isn't as good as the original Vacation, but it's still a 'B+'.
The Sandlot was amusing, but a little cheesy, and annoying at times, so it's a 'C+'.

Vacation and Christmas vacation are the only two movies that are good from the franchise.

Yeah. European is meh, and I've never seen the rest, but I have no desire to, based on how terrible they look.

I think they're all watchable, but I'd agree that Vacation and Christmas Vacation are the standouts.

I saw European, I didn't like it. Vegas was pretty damn stupid, and I've only seen part of Christmas Vacation 2: Eddie's Island Adventure. I warn you, so far, it's shit. The next movie better not suck, but with the way they cast Ed Helms as Rusty (he's a great actor, but I honestly wondering if they're just hiring for namesake), I'm really unsure.

Of the Vacation franchise, I have only seen Christmas Vacation and the Vegas one (don't remember a lot about it, though). Watched the former today and it's still really funny and holds up well.

Good lord, there's a sequel? This reminds me of when they made a sequel to The Tooth Fairy, but instead of using Dwayne Johnson, they used Larry The Cable Guy and dressed him up in a pink tutu (I'm serious).

Yeah, when I first saw the trailer I thought it was a joke. I never saw commercials for it, and I don't think it was ever in theaters, but I just saw the DVD at the store the other day.

I got Ted for Christmas from my wife and we decided to give it a watch last night. This is the second time I've seen it and it was funnier than the first time!

My sister isn't very switched on when it comes to film so I showed her The Cabin in the Woods last night. At first she was like "Whoa" and then she was like "WHOA!"

So what's everyone's filmic highlights of 2012, whether it be new releases or films you saw for the first time this year.

I just can't stop thinking about how much Shame and Killer Joe affected me emotionally.

Saw The Hobbit yesterday, and it was really good, but the LOTR trilogy is my favorite series ever, so I could be slightly biased.

2012 was a bland year in film for me. I didn't think The Dark Knight Rises was any good, I think Nolan really dropped the ball on it. I haven't seen The Avengers yet but I'd bet I'd like that. The movie of the year for me would probably be Lincoln with Daniel Day-Lewis but I haven't seen that yet; I cannot WAIT to see it. I also think Hope Springs looks very good, along with Argo and Cloud Atlas (loved the book). Anyhow, my favorite film of 2012 is probably Chronicle.

'Ted' was better than I expected, although it is cliche Seth MacFarlane. 7/10 B-

I just saw Parental Guidance. Some moments were kind of sweet or semi-funny, but there were way too many cringeworthy moments. Billy Crystal was easily the best part of the movie. I liked the basic plot, and the message it was trying to get across, and it did well with it some times, but then it would get stupid.

I just saw Despicable Me for the first time, and... I really liked it. Poop jokes aside, I thought that it was a very funny movie. I liked the characters, especially Gru. And not to mention the old guy (whose name escapes me), because his lines ended up getting the biggest laughs from me, mostly the part where he's like, "We have to warn him, quickly!" and is on one of those scooters that goes like half an mile an hour. Overall though, I thought that it was a great film. Does it need a sequel? No, absolutely not, but if they could up with a story that works, then maybe.

    4/5

I just saw Batman and Robin again. I thought I remembered liking it, but I haven't seen it in a long time, when I was pretty young, and it seems incredibly dated now. Some of it might be that I'm spoiled after watching the Christopher Nolan series, but this seemed very petty in comparison.

I know little to nothing about Parental Guidance, but the trailer made me so angry. It depresses me that all Hollywood has to offer Billy Crystal is crotch jokes.

The other night I watched Scott Pilgrim vs. the World for the first time since my second cinema screening and I must say I really enjoyed it. Great script and awesome special effects.
