I still liked it, but it definitely felt quite a bit dated and I didn't really have any strong feelings about it one way or another. It was funny at times, but it was never close to hilarious, except for maybe one or two scenes. It relies quite a bit on nostalgia, which was a bit lost on me as someone who didn't grow up anywhere close to that time period. I still enjoyed it, though.

Roger Ebert did a good review of it that actually made me appreciate it more.

By not appealing to my tastes I guess. For instance, I wasn't too much into its sense of poetry overall, and in more specifics, found the voiceover narration to be unnecessary and more of a con to appreciate the supposed beauty of the story than anything.

Fair enough. It's been a few years since I've seen it but I remember just being blown away by it. The acting (Pitts best performance I've seen, Casey Afflecks is amazing too), writing, cinematography (especially this), direction...just everything was handled excellently. Artistic as hell but wildly entertaining...great flick.

Well, now that James Spader's been cast as Ultron in the next Avengers film, I might finally get my ass in gear and actually watch the first film.

Just read that Jack Nicholson has decided to retire from acting. He claims it's because he struggles to remember his lines these days (he's 76) but I don't know if this is true or not. It could be just that there aren't any good roles for him anymore. Nevertheless, here's to one of the greatest actors who ever lived.

You never know, maybe he'll decided to come out of retirement further down the line and try acting again. Quite a few actors have done it from my memory.

Don't really remember anything he's been in the last decade, but still pretty bad news. He'll be missed.

he's pretty much one of the best actors of all time, but it's pretty understandable. he hasn't really made a great film since as good as it gets, so at this point it isn't really a huge loss, at least.

Man, you really went on a P.T. Anderson run, didn't you?

Glad to see you enjoyed Punch-Drunk Love... Remember liking it the first time I saw it and not sure understanding why, but realized its greatness on the re-watch. One of the most interesting films I've ever seen.
