One album per artist (otherwise I'd also have a disproportionate number of Dylan albums), and with the additional caveats that these are really just personal favorites, off the top of my head, and with compilations/anthologies excluded (otherwise there would be a lot of pre-50s material):

    1. Highway 61 Revisited - Bob Dylan
    2. In the Aeroplane Over the Sea - Neutral Milk Hotel
    3. Revolver - Beatles
    4. Rain Dogs - Tom Waits
    5. Velvet Underground & Nico - Velvet Underground
    6. Violent Femmes - Violent Femmes
    7. Ys - Joanna Newsom
    8. Electric Ladyland - Jimi Hendrix Experience
    9. Let it Bleed - Rolling Stones
    10. Songs of Leonard Cohen - Leonard Cohen

Thumbs up for Automatic For The People @al and mike. Fantastic album.

Other favourites of mine (in no particular order):

Dark Side of the Moon - Pink Floyd
Blood Sugar Sex Magik - Red Hot Chili Peppers
Use Your Illusion I - Guns N' Roses
    American Idiot - Green Day
Spiritual Machines - Our Lady Peace
    Pump - Aerosmith
    The Joshua Tree - U2
Fully Completely - The Tragically Hip
    The Blue Album - Weezer
Melon Collie and the Infinite Sadness - Smashing Pumpkins

Would add a Rush album, but I only own the Chronicles set and Roll the Bones, so I don't really know what songs come from which album, and the latter isn't one of Rush's best.

Moving Pictures has such standards as Tom Sawyer, Limelight, YYZ and Red Barchetta. Every song on that album can hold it's weight in water though, just outstanding. Permanent Waves and Hemispheres are also close to making my top ten and are highly recommended.

And I'm giving this an honourable mention
    How to remaster
