Hex and the City is one of the truly great Treehouse of Horror segments.

In fact, XII is probably in my top five of the Halloween specials.

People who actually think the 'best' (5/5) new episodes, who aren't grading on a curve, can hold a candle to the first 9 seasons.
Well, ya'know if you stay positive and forget about trivial things like "proper characterization," "Satire," and "emotional depth" watching new Simpsons episodes can be a seemingly enjoyable lie.

I tried watching a new episode the Simpsons, but I realized the show hit a new low, like a brand new, underground parking structure of sadness.

I find the Rover Hendrix gag just before the act break in 'Homerpalooza' pretty funny.

"The Frying Game" is WAY underrated. No matter how far fetched the ending is, it only makes up about two minutes, and it's wrong to judge the whole episode based on that.

Then hey, let's throw out the insane ending.

Oh look, it's a fucking screamapiller that is three times as annoying as it is remotely funny and which provides minimal, if any, comedic fodder, for the cast. Now, let's look at a schizophrenic plot that goes from being about a gift for Marge's birthday, to some sort of endangered species parable, to a story about Homer's new elderly friend, to a murder mystery. Oh, and they still have time for a half-hearted B-story about Bart and Lisa becoming Cletus's foster kids. No pacing or focus problems there at all.

Then there's the so-called jokes. "I just need this ax to cut those meals on wheels steaks." BWAHAHAHAHAHA! Take that, Swansons! Homer tells his lawyer (Gil, everyone's favorite character!) to play the race card. It's funny, because he's white (yellow?) and Homer's dumb!!! Now he's looking at Carmen Electra's boobs! Humor! Oooh, look, it's a weird, warmed over reference to The Green Mile. Now Homer says "Uh.. guh.. muh... wuh.......... ssszuh?" He doesn't know what exclamation to continue making! Isn't that hilarious?

No, no it is not. Horrible plot, horrible pacing, horrible jokes, horrible characterization, and yes a mystifyingly stupid ending. If it's at all underrated, it's only insofar as people underrate how absolutely terrible it is. Definitely in the top five for worst episodes ever. Deserves to be spoken of in the same breath as KTAAR and Saddlesore Galactica.
"Did you exchange, a walk on part in a war, for a lead role in a cage?"

I'm not going to argue with you. You're entitled to your opinion, even if it is wrong.

    Finally.

It's not a bad episode but there's certainly a lot better in the classic era! And I don't find it memorable one bit. It feels out of place! It's more of a season 9-esque episode in my book.

Oh, I have another one. Season 4 is my least favorite season from the classic era. It's usually regarded as the best, right?

For me it goes something like 2, 3, 6, 7, 5 and then 4. TRUE STORY. I just don't find it as funny as the others, and it has that clip show tainting everything. Ew. Gross. Get out of there.

Naw. Sorry. . Season 8 and I should just stay friends.

I was thinking about it the other day - Principal Charming has always been my favorite episode, and I think A Fish Called Selma is my second favorite. I'm pretty sure Patty and Selma are my favorite characters. How lame is that? Works for a very unpopular opinion though.

Patty and Selma are good characters. Not the newest overly annoying/mean version of course, but classic Patty and Selma.

I remember that not long ago I used to consider all the way up to season 11 to be classic. I've been watching the show a lot lately however (probably more than since I was a kid), and reading a lot of DHS and other Simpsons-related blogs. My opinions have changed since then, but yeah - I still enjoy season 8. Ned's breakdown in Hurricane Neddy is one of the funniest things in the show.

I also used to think that Al Jean's early solo seasons weren't that bad - but oh god, they're really terrible. Sickening, even. Mike Scully's stuff is way better.

Yeah, they've become props used to ruin Homer's life. I made a thread a while ago talking about how there's no more evil characters, but I guess they've made Patty and Selma pretty evil, haven't they? Locking Homer up and torturing him for days, shoving him off a bridge to his death, etc. Ugh.

Yeah. Even the episode description is funny. "Ned Flanders checks himself into a mental hospital".

Well the plot is pretty good too. I like the idea that Ned supresses his emotions. It makes sense seeing as how he's so overly happy all the time. It's like he's wearing a fake mask on a daily basis.

Snake is my third favorite character after Patty and Selma. Then Ned, but I think lots of people like him. As they should. What a guy.

"Hell Toupee" is a classic THOH short, and it aired in season 10! Ugh, so good.

    Apu: Snake? But you're dead!
Homer/Snake: I know you are, but what am I?

I miss the times when Chef Wiggum, Krusty, and Principal Skinner were likable and actually enjoy what their jobs (or at least took it seriously) and didn't act like whiny bitches and behave super dumb like they do now

People dislike Hurricane Neddy? Too out there, I guess?

"Past instances in which I professed to like you were fraudulent!" Dan just kills the delivery on those lines.

Oh right, we're supposed to be talking about unpopular opinions!

The show should go on indefinitely at this point. I mean, what possible harm to the show's legacy could there be from season 30 versus season 20? They still stumble onto some pretty enjoyable episodes a few times a season. Plus however much the show is a pale version of its former self, I'll still be pretty bummed when The Simpsons is no more.
