Disenchantment: Matt Groening's new Netflix cartoon

    http://deadline.com/2016/01/matt-gro...ix-1201684100/

Netflix is teaming with the co-creator of one of the most iconic broadcast animated comedy series. Ive learned that the Internet network is in talks with The Simpsons co-creator/executive Matt Groening for a new animated series. Details about the project, which Groening will create and write, are being kept under wraps.
    hmm...

I wonder if the art style will be similar to that of his other shows

Anyway, here's hoping it's good. And that it doesn't overstay its welcome!

despite his shows dragging on for much longer than they should, I don't expect Groening to hit MacFarlane level of signing onto purposely shit shows.

Yeah, when you think about Matt's creations, there's some pretty big differences between Life In Hell, The Simpsons and Futurama. It's not like Seth where the family sitcom setup got done 3 times and then was followed up by a movie about a stoner and his talking teddy bear. Fair enough that his Larry & Steve shorts were just a man and his dog rather than a whole family unit, but between then and Ted it was just the same cookie cutter concept with some slight tweaks to the two that came after Family Guy.

Interested to see whatever this will be, and hopefully we get some more info soon.

Also, what do you think are the odds that if this new thing does well Matt will push to try and get Netflix to resurrect Futurama once more?

It's wishful thinking, but I hope that if Netflix opts towards a Futurama renewal, they'll pay for a truncated final season to give it the ending it deserves. This "shut door, another opens" ending has been used too much.

Agreed. Matt's not willing to let it die if he can help it though, we all know that. I'd very much like to see a Futurama finale that is actually a definitive "This is undoubtedly the last one" rather than always leaving the door open for more.

I still haven't seen every episode of the CC version of Futurama, but I don't think Futurama should be brought back a second time. It was nice enough that it was able to get revived once and from what I've seen the CC-run episodes have been a mixed bag.

As for the new series, I'm really excited to see what it's going to be as Matt Groening is a lot more creative when it comes to creating a show.

I couldn't imagine any animated Matt Groening production not having characters with huge eyes, four fingers and overbites tbh.

Interesting. About time we saw something different from him.

And yeah I can't see the art style being any different, especially since he will have such a big say on what happens on this show.

I wonder if this his idea from the late 90's. Groening said his then third idea for a new series was a show about a travelling rock band.
Well, ya'know if you stay positive and forget about trivial things like "proper characterization," "Satire," and "emotional depth" watching new Simpsons episodes can be a seemingly enjoyable lie.

I tried watching a new episode the Simpsons, but I realized the show hit a new low, like a brand new, underground parking structure of sadness.

Cohen already said before they couldn't really bring Futurama to a place like Netflix without a big animation quality cut, which he didn't seem to really want happen.

If they're gonna give Futurama a true unopen finale, I'd much rather they just go the movie route (hopefully theatrical). Not sure who would be willing to fund it, but I'd rather have that than a Season 8 at this point (though I'm not completely opposed to it, would watch new Futurama content either way).

Anyway, definitely looking forward to this. Just nice to see Groening make another show, would be interested to see if he can make a world as fascinating as Simps/Futurama. His works are far between, but I still have faith he can pull off another great series.
Just because I'm stupider than them, they think they're smarter than me!

I read The Hollywood Reporter's subhead "The mystery series would be Matt Groening's follow-up to 'Futurama' and 'The Simpsons.'" as Matt was developing a mystery series. Like, it was going to involve crime solving or a detective.

Olive the other raindeer was only produced by Matt Groening. That's why it had a different art style.

Holy smokes! I'm already excited. Groening's got a proven track record and I'd actually find it pretty fascinating and surreal to have a new series with that Simpsons/Futurama overbite look.

Jake mentioned the old idea about a show centering on a rock band. I wonder if he's still interested in that or if this is a completely different idea. Either way, I'm on board.

Yeah, like everybody here I'm on board with this 100%, especially the idea that he's requesting 2 seasons right off the bat. Futurama flirted a bit with serialization, but to see Groening do a product that goes totally for it would be awesome.

yaaay! More predictable bashing, sarcasm and negativity on here!

my family does have netflix, but not everything is available here. i just hate the idea of a show or movie exclusive to an app or a website. And as far as google tells me, you can only rent dvds... so if they so release it i cant keep it? i dont wanna support it.

    Inb4 some sarcastic insult horayy
