That's because you had no childhood. If you played through Kanto and Johto as a kid you would appreciate the Johto region A LOT more!

    And Hoenn...perfect? Whatcha talking about...?!

You didn't start with Red/Blue, as you said you didn't play generation 1!

    No. Childhood.

Starting with Hoenn made you believe things that aren't true...

What do you have against Hoenn, anyway?

All I remember was me getting Sapphire on my 9th birthday. I was excited as I loved Red and Silver so much, but for some reason the game failed for me. I lost all interest in Pokemon when I started playing in the Hoenn region and I only rediscovered that love when I picked up Pokemon Crystal a few years ago. The Pokemon are ugly there was too MANY of them added. It lost that spark for me and I'm really skeptical of the new Pokemon games because of my bad experience with Hoenn. Not to mention that Hoenn completely ruined the anime, which was briliant before they got there!

Johto added some Pokemon but not too much. It had the most annoying bunch of gym leaders ever created in a Pokemon game, they were all bound to frustrate you at least once. The music in the Johto region was fantastic, their new Pokemon weren't ugly (bar a few exceptions) and it revolutionised the Pokemon series back in the day - new types, new attacks, the addition of puzzles, plenty of dudgeons and whatnot, a rival that isn't/doesn't look boring and has an interesting backstory (Gary's still my favourite though, he's the ultimate rival!) and etc. Johto will always be my favourite with Kanto a close second. It's a shame Hoenn cannot compare to these regions.

You actually view the over dependence on water and diving and islands as good Panther? I find them obnoxious personally. I guess it probably is due to the age gap, at least to an extent, especially since I THINK you said you never played the first 2 regions until their remakes. As someone who grew up with Red and Blue and kept going I can say Hoenn seemed so very....ugly and boring and unmemorable by comparison and I mean that regarding everything from pokemon to terrain to enemies(Aqua and Magma) that after playing through a copy of Sapphire I borrowed once a year or so after it came out I thought I'd never play Pokemon again. To be fair though I can recall thinking Crystal seemed like a shameless cash grab when it came out and never bothered to buy it. So maybe I just grew out of the series by that point but Hoenn was certainly the final nail in the coffin. The only thing that changed this was a strong nostalgic urge when HeartGold was released. I think over the years I've grown to accept the 3rd Gen more, to be able to acknowledge a few things I do like about it, but even replaying Sapphire again a few months back I couldn't be bothered to actually finish the game's main story, which has yet to happen to me in any of the other 4 regions.

The thing that made me think Hoenn really was the worst was that I actually enjoyed Sinnoh after buying Platinum thanks to how much I loved HeartGold. Not that I own either of those games anymore...

Okay, whatever. It's the region I know the best by far, and whenever I think of Pokémon, I will always think of Hoenn.

Alright, alright, Panther your love of Hoenn is fine and certainly understandable given your history. Anyone who says your not allowed to like it best is an ass.

    Agreed.

Hoenn's still bad though . Maybe Kanto and Johto spoiled me (us?)

I don't like the look of Sinnoh.

Unova looks decent I admit, but I'm still skeptical!

Unova...I prefer unique shapes. Plus, you know that when you've arrived back at Nimbasa, you're DONE. That just bothers me.

Eh, I never noticed the shapes really. The only one that sticks out to me badly is Hoenn in that regard mostly due to the overkill with water. Is Unova just a big circle? That's not really bad...

It's shaped like Orion, I think. And what's wrong with the water? I love the balance between land and water!

Naw, not a huge water guy in video games in general, but the diving was just another useless HM. Whirlpool was at least quicker...

I thought diving brought a great new element to the game. Underwater Pokémon, the caves, and even an entire city! Not to mention the great mystery of the Regis. I think it adds a more mysterious feel to the game, and I was saddened when they didn't bring it back.

They have Dive as a HM? Does that even do anything in battle? Seems like another Flash for me - you use it once and never again, and it's presence annoys you!
