I've skimmed through that video before and that Phasma scene should have gone down like that in the movie (or maybe a combination of both).

I can't really think of any of their videos I like, but this one especially just seemed... worse for some reason.

that said I was half-expecting something like that Captain Phasma scene to actually happen in the movie, so there's that at least

think this was posted earlier in the thread but this releases on digital platforms on april 1st, and on blu ray and dvd on april 5th. target, walmart, and best buy each get their own exclusive versions, and a 3d release will come out later this year.

Full teaser comes today (but I still think that teasers for teasers are pointless and stupid).

And so soon after I posted the teaser-teaser.

Well, this already looks like it'll be a great movie and very possibly better than TFA (I like that Mon Mothma from ROTJ is in it).

I dunno about that. It'll be hard to top those emotional highs even if the story is a little stronger/more original.

Yes, but it's a possibility. We'll just have to wait and see.

I don't hate TFA and I look forward to seeing it again (especially since I only saw it once).

Man, this looks fucking great! Who gives a shit which one is gonna be better, TFA was exactly what we needed after the prequels and this looks like it's gonna be a lot different and riskier. Will definitely be seeing this in theaters. Gotta soak up the Star Wars before the oversaturation of the franchise makes it unbearable.

Yeah, I kinda knew that but I just wanted to point out that I don't have that vitriol against the movie which I've noticed a ton of online (speaking of which, it's ridiculous how many 1-star reviews it has garnered on IMDB).

It's one of the highest grossing movies ever made. Internet trolls and "cool kids" live for dumping on it.

And misogynists, can't forget them. They're already going nuts with this teaser.

i mean that's just an example. you could probably go anywhere on the internet and find people griping about it, believe even here brokenfan wasn't too much a fan of the film.

is it wrong that i didn't like how it was derivative of episode iv?

i think VII being similar to IV is the best bet they could've made for critical acclaim and getting people back into the universe. if they had gone out of the gate with a weird, risky, different Star Wars movie, they'd be liable to repeat the prequels and completely lose the audience they were trying to catch for the next era of the franchise. now, if they continue down this road and the next two movies are rehashes, yeah, that's a problem but i cannot blame them for playing it safe. the detractors saying "ugh, rehash" would be saying "how is this star wars?!?!?!" if they had done something completely different with TFA.

i do agree, though, at times it was a little shoehorned and tacky - near the end, really - of how derivative it was of IV. i feel like they could've done a little better with it and not have it be so on the nose but i digress.

yes i know it had to copy episode iv in order to win over large swathes of critics and casual fans but that still makes it less good than episode iv and v.

which is why i'm looking forward to future star wars films cause it's finally a chance to try something new with the great production values from episode vii.

To me, once I got "oh ok it's a warped version of ANH with Empire/Jedi elements", I was kind of fine with it. It's not as much of a carbon copy as some people gripe about and it makes up for a lot of problems by being fun. Does it have some issues? Yeah. It's not a perfect movie.

But I wasn't expecting Empire, I was expecting a Star Wars movie that felt like a Star Wars movie and was fun like one unlike the three boring-ass prequels. And I got that.

yeah ep 7 copies a few major plot point from a New Hope but I could honestly care less because of how great everything around it is , it's just an awesome and fun as hell movie and that's what everyone wanted from a star wars film and it sets up a whole new plot with a new set of characters, imo it makes sense to mirror IV. And besides it's not like the entire film is a retread of IV, its only a few plot points that it uses as a jumping off point.

Anyways as for the new trailer for Rogue One, it looks awesome as fuck and I can't wait for it come out.

The only things I disliked about TFA were:

    • Ambiguity of locations. Only Jakku and Starkiller Base got a name drop. Everything else, from the Resistance planet to Maz's planet to Luke's planet to the planet that became Starkiller Base never had an onscreen mention. Looking back, every Star Wars film to my knowledge states all the main planet names either through a simple line or the opening crawl. I guess it's just a pet peeve of mine, though I did encounter people who saw the film and thought the Resistance was on Yavin and that Starkiller Base destroyed Coruscant.

    • Ambiguity of politics. The destruction of the New Republic's system would have been stronger if they left in that one scene that shows Leia's messenger pleading with the senate for support just moments before the planet was destroyed. The actress was featured front and center before the planet blew up. I know, I know. Some people cannot stand politics in Star Wars, but you cannot have wars without politics. Wars are not simple good guy vs. bad guy scenarios. It would have been nice to show that the New Republic does not support the Resistance and that they had become blind to the First Order's power.

    • Lack of aliens from episodes 1-6. Aside from Ackbar, Numb and Chewie, we had zero returning alien species from the old films. Why not throw in a hammerhead or rodian or something? And I don't accept the "it's a different part of the galaxy argument, as past movies have shown all sorts of species get around the galaxy. I also would have liked to see an alien take a lead role. All we had was Chewie. Between TFA and Rogue One there are too many humans.

But that's about all I disliked. I liked the rest of the film. I do think the ambiguity of Snoke and what happened with Ben will be explored in the next to films, so I am not bothered by them being unexplored in VII.
