i wouldn't count on it beating avatar. 2.7 billion is absolutely insane. i don't know if i could say it it's not at all a possibilty, but i wouldn't bet on it

I've always wondered why the hell Avatar of all things made THAT MUCH money. I mean I realize it was a huge 3D/IMAX draw and had good word of mouth, but the highest of ALL TIME? James Cameron must hobnob with the best marketing people ever.

I doubt Star Wars will beat Avatar, but it'll be nice when something someday dethrones that overrated beast.

overseas audiences were captivated by the 3D and the epic factor. when it comes to what they want to digest from america, they really love the simple blockbuster stuff

I think that TFA will easily top 2 billion, but whether or not it tops avatar depends really on if it's truly a great, great film and also also manages to have those bombastic action scenes that the OS people are craving for. you need that perfect storm, especially since avatar had that 3D tech wave built into it some years back.

what a pessimistic mindset! the people actually making it are clearly very dedicated to making this great.
i think it can top avatar. it's a dedicated franchise with a huge amount of fans, and even people that previously didn't care about star wars are probably going to see it too. gonna be Huge

I kinda really hope the theory about Rey and Kylo Ren being siblings are true if only to evoke Luke/Leia somehow.

And jesus how did his lightsaber just not spit out shit at Rey's face being so close. His saber plasma seems so viscous like lava compared to others.

Wow. Better than the US trailer if you ask me.

Best shot: TIE fighters with the setting sun in the background.

I'm a big fan of the original movies of course, but I've just got no interest in this new one. I've seen the trailers & read about the plot, and eh, I just can't muster any want to see it. I don't know if George Lucas not being involved is a good thing or a bad thing haha.

I'd rather they had made a movie of the Timothy Zahn books, specifically the 'Thrawn' & 'Hand of Thrawn' books. He wrote great post-Return of the Jedi books, and way better than anything Lucas, ugh ha, has done since the first three movies.

Far as my favorite goes, it's between Episodes IV & V. 'A New Hope' will always have a special place in my mind, because I smoked pot for the first time while watching it. Even though at that point I'd already seen it two-dozen times, it added a whole new dimension man. I just remember laughing my ass off at all the smartass remarks everyone makes in that movie like every thirty seconds haha.

I've never been a huge fan of these movies(the original trilogy or the second one really) but we rewatched the original trilogy this past weekend, and I just saw that new trailer and watched a bunch of other teasers... holy shit. I'm like so beyond excited right now.

probably not going to see it for a couple weeks after it's out just because everybody's going to see this and I don't want that packed of a theater, but damn.

Some rumor floating around supposedly based on toys/merch that Finn is a certain someone's son, but no indication that it is true. Which is fine with me because I'd rather it not be.

i really hope they don't go overboard with the "OH THIS NEW CHARACTER IS RELATED TO THIS OLD CHARACTER". that's probably my greatest fear for this film. that they shoehorn too many things like that in and end up just retreading old ground or getting really fan servicey.

similar reason i don't want luke to be kylo ren. i don't want another "skywalker turning bad" story. we've done that.

Yeah, this. It really bugged me how many massive coincidences there turned out to be with every character somehow being related to or knowing each other. I understand the appeal of doing fanservicey stuff like that but I hope they keep it to a minimum or at least make it make sense.

the rumor of luke turning out to become senile and crazed, living in squalor a bit like yoda in empire and dying by the end of the film is so far the one I'm hoping to be true.

I have a bad feeling that the luke/kylo ren rumors are true since JJ specifically addressed them with a wink ("ooh just wait and see!") awhile back. if so... well let's hope the rest is good.

As mentioned earlier, I fall more in with Kylo Ren/Rey are related and I guess I feel like Luke has something to do with Knights of Ren or as I've seen elsewhere, he's just like, not really human anymore (but not necessarily evil).

i kinda like the idea that luke is already dead but i don't think they'd do it off screen so i don't know how you do it properly without it being lame

kylo ren is definitely not luke skywalker, in one of the trailers they show him walking without his helmet on
and besides someone is already cast as kylo ren anyway

David Prowse was Darth Vader in body, but James Earl Jones by voice. And of course, Hayden Whatshisname in the prequels.

    So there's definitely a predecent.
