These are gonna be popcorn flicks. All of them are popcorn flicks. Star Wars nerds I tell ya. Imagine if message boards were a thing when Kershner was slated to direct number 5.

couldnt disagree more that the OT are "popcorn flicks" in the same way the dismally written and pedestrian directed JW is a "popcorn flick"

trevorrow will have like no input on how this movie looks or feels anyway so what does it even matter

abrams had a lot of input on the force awakens, as can be seen by most of his directing cliches being evident in the trailers

I reckon if 7 and 8 succeed wildly they'll boot trevorrow and keeps abrams.

Did not expect all this conflict.

Anyway, give Trevorrow a chance even though Jurassic World wasn't the greatest, you guys; he's gonna have a lot of pressure put onto him for handling Episode 9 and if he mucks it up, well, he's pretty much gonna be eaten alive and I think he's aware of that that so I bet (and hope) he'll do his best and improve from his work on JW.

he will need to disappear completely if he caps off the next trilogy with a shitty movie

  12. #551

How do you know this trilogy is gonna be any good? There's no reason to think it'll be that great. Like I'm sure when the phantom menace trailer came out people shit their pants too. Just wait and see how it it all ends up before deciding he's gonna be the one to fuck it up.

In other news, Rogue One (the first SW spin off) looks really interesting:

...no? The whole point of hiring different directors was one thing Abrams wanted to do to keep it fresher and more like the OT. (Rian Johnson is directing Ep 8 btw)

Might be wrong, as I'm not sure how much the guys behind the new Star Wars will take from the Expanded Universe, but I'm calling it:
Felicity Jones might be playing Bria Tharen, a character from the Expanded Universe who was the leader of a Rebel commando squadron that helped secure the Death Star plans, except in the EU they were called the Red Hand Squadron. Best bet is that in this continuity, Rogue One's going to be the source for the name of Rogue Squadron.

The movie's probably going to involve the Battle of Toprawa, which had the rebels stealing the plans from a forest planet right before Star Wars A New Hope. It's one of the first major victories of the Rebels but involved a huge number of them dying. There's a space battle and also a ground landing, where most of the rebels get wiped out. I'm hearing rumors that the main characters will actually be bounty hunters hired to steal the plans, so I'm guessing in this movie, they might be the only few survivors of the land invasion and have to take the plans themselves.
The darker tone of this movie would be fitting, because in the original Expanded Universe, Bria and everyone in her team end up getting killed.

Also, Bria had a fling with Han Solo. They may or may not include that part, but I prefer not. The galaxy would seem a bit too small if every single character knew each other somehow.

To those hating on Colin Trevorrow, have you seen JJ Abrams' Star Trek movies? They're dumb popcorn flicks, just like Jurassic World.
Season 1: The humble beginnings -- Seasons 2-8: The classic era -- Season 9: The first season where noticeable flaws began to appear -- Season 10: The last decent season -- Season 11: The first BAD season -- Season 12: The last season with episodes worth watching -- Seasons 13-Present: Zombie Simpsons

Let's hope he doesn't write it at least, because the dialogue was Jurassic World's biggest problem. A lot of the jokes were very poor and many other lines very cheesy and cringeworthy.

Super 8 was decent. But it was also disappointing. Best thing was by far the post-credits scene.

My point was, people are hating on Trevorrow for making a dumb popcorn flick but ignore the fact that Abrams is guilty of that too.

the only mainstream thing colin trevorrow has even done at this point is jurassic world so that's not an apt comparison

Dug out my copies of those limited-edition unaltered original-trilogy DVDs I picked up while they were briefly being sold like 10 years ago. I wasn't sure I still had them and also had no idea they were so difficult/expensive to find copies of now. Between those and my VHS boxset from 1994 or so (which came with a note talking about how Lucas is planning on making updated director's cuts soon that will render those versions obsolete, lol) I've been able to stick with the originals and have only actually seen the "remastered" versions like once each for a laugh. Glad I still have these.
