Empire and A New Hope are really only the two great Star Wars movies, although I do have a soft spot for Jedi from my childhood. Luke doing the backflip on that ship thingy to avoid getting thrown into the sarlacc pit was always my favorite moment in the whole series. Just so badass. Episode III is really the only decent prequel, but even that has major issues. Was a good watch in the cinema though, I must have seen it three times.

    http://starwars.com/news/gareth-edwa...lone-film.html
In addition to the episodes of a new Star Wars trilogy, Lucasfilm and Disney have begun development on multiple stand-alone movies that will offer new stories beyond the core Saga. Gareth Edwards will direct the first stand-alone film, with a screenplay by Gary Whitta. The film is due out December 16, 2016.

Gareth Edwards blazed into the filmmaking forefront with his acclaimed work on Monsters, a film he wrote, directed and served on as cinematographer and visual effects artist. The skill and vision readily apparent in Monsters earned him the high-profile spot directing this year's smash hit Godzilla.

"Ever since I saw Star Wars I knew exactly what I wanted to do for the rest of my life - join the Rebel Alliance! I could not be more excited and honored to go on this mission with Lucasfilm," said Edwards.

Gary Whittas screenwriting credits include 2010s The Book of Eli starring Denzel Washington. He is also well known as a journalist and editor in the video game industry, as well as part of the BAFTA award-winning team on Telltale Games adaptation of The Walking Dead.

Whitta states, "From the moment I first saw the original movie as a wide-eyed kid, Star Wars has been the single most profound inspiration to my imagination and to my career as a writer. It is deeply special to me,so to be given the opportunity to contribute to its ongoing legacy, especially in collaboration with a film-maker as talented as Gareth,is literally a dream come true. I'm still pinching myself."

Well, I liked the new Godzilla movie and I liked the Walking Dead game by Telltale, so I'm okay with this.

They've been planning it for awhile.

All I know is that if it involves Boba Fett, people are gonna get excited.

Turns out that Ford apparently broke his leg instead of his ankle.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-27919126

The irony is that it happened when the Millennium Falcon's door fell on his leg.

EDIT: Apparently he might only be filmed from the waist up in some scenes as well.

So did Lucasfilm try to downplay the accident by turning "broken leg" into "ankle injury"?; I'd say that's kind of a dick move by them.

They might've not known what happened. Unlikely, but possible.

Considering that the sequels will take place decades after the first game, a better idea would be to make Han crippled from age. He can still fly the Falcon but he'll be shying away from direct combat, and we can save the badass gunslinging in the climax before he somehow sacrifices his own life.

Yes, he's going to die. Harrison Ford wanted Han dead since Return of the Jedi; they're likely going to make it happen.

I really have no desire to see Harrison reprise Han Solo. Yeah it's an iconic character and it's almost surreal to think we'll be seeing him in a new adventure (even if it's in a small capacity, which I assume it would be), but it never feels the same with these types of things after so many years have passed. He felt totally off as Indy in "Crystal Skull" and the character didn't come across as the badass adventurer he was so loved for. And Hans a very similar character, so I imagine it's gonna be the same thing…cool for nostalgic purposes but a pale shadow of the person people will always remember when they think Han Solo.

Same thing with this new Dumb and Dumber movie…I know it's just an impression from the trailer but in most of the moments shown they were overacting and mugging way more and they didn't feel like stupid yet still relatively normal guys they were originally portrayed as, but just straight up retards. Jeff Daniels line readings in particular felt really off and over-the-top. His "That's…AWESOME!" line reading when he realized Lloyd was pranking him feels particularly strained. Hate to say it but it's almost impossible to recapture the magic with these characters after decades have passed.

Sometime before the new one comes out, I really need to watch the original trilogy. I checked on Netflix yesterday, but they weren't on there surprisingly.
