Rate and Review Bob's Burgers: "Torpedo" (1ASA12)

    Torpedo (1ASA12)
Bob is thrilled when his baseball hero Torpedo Jones takes a liking to his burgers, but has misgivings when he realizes that Torpedo is just using the burger grease to cheat, especially when it causes Gene to cheat in a mascot race.

    Great finale!

It actually reminded me of a Tom Goes to the Mayor episode. Bob being Tom, supplying burger grease to a baseball player. Mr. Fischoeder being the Mayor, running a crooked baseball team and operating a roller coaster on the verge of falling apart. The ending cemented the TGTTM feel, as Bob really didn't come out on top and Fischoeder walked away from the mess without a scratch.

the mascot races were visually very funny. ditto, bob's reaction when gene can't remember the name of the restaurant. A+

I am starting to like this show. The most "realistic" of all the Animation domination shows.

Realism is the main thing I want out of an animated show.

Since The Simpsons have devolved into a Saturday morning cartoon show, realism actually is somewhat refreshing.

Thought this episode was pretty decent. It was kinda nice to see them do a Gene episode, since he the writers haven't given him as much stuff as Louise or Tina this season. It was kinda concerning that they were going to go down the "Bob's Burgers are magical" route, so the reveal with the grease worked. It got a little heavy-handed with the "cheating = bad" moral later on, though. Was expecting more of a subversion by the end, other than Gene getting pushed during the final race (which was easy to see coming).

Torpedo looked almost dead-on for Brendon's dad Andrew on Home Movies. Almost expected him to be voiced by Louis C.K. as well... which would've just been the most incredible thing ever.

Thought this one was hilarious, though moreso in the first half than the second.

A pretty good episodes. Some good laughs got a little heavy handed with a pretty east ending with the roller coaster and Gene getting tripped but whatever a solid end to a solid season.

    Bring on season 2!!!

Another great episode. I didn't even realize that was Tim and Eric. Best part was Bob yelling the name of the restaurant to Gene. Some people have said that H. Jon Benjamin is wasted as Bob in this show, but honestly I think he is used well, since Bob has his occasional moments of insanity or craziness. Its also nice to see H. Jon play a character that isn't an asshole.

Aside from the first 2 and maybe last week's, the other 10 episodes were superb stuff, IMO. Can't wait for season 2, and I hope this show gets re-runs until season 2 so it can gain more of an audience.

    5/5

Also I agree with Jims, with King of the Hill gone, and Simpsons being actual cartoon-y, something had to fill the "realism" slot of Sunday nights.

I wasn't complaining about it being "realistic" it just struck me as funny how much people here complain about cartoon's being "cartoony"

Yeah, but theres a difference between taking liberties due to being animated, and doing wacky nonsense akin to a children's cartoon. Theres no denying that The Simpsons in its heyday took those liberties, but it never used to feel like it was pandering to kids. Today it frequently does.

I know all this. I don't know why you're responding as if there's a point of contention.

But if you know it and why they said it, why does it strike you as funny or odd in the first place?
