I thought it was fine. Bob and the kids were funny enough. Wife was obnoxious.

Thought it was alright, got more laughs out of me than the Simpsons tonight so that's something. Already missing American Dad, as soon as I saw Cleveland Show was coming on I had to switch the TV off. Seriously the only reason I've seen even a single episode of that show is because I'm too lazy to switch the channel between the end of the Simpsons and the start of Family Guy most nights. With it being at the end of the lineup now I'm going to make an early prediction and say it's viewership will drop off to less than half.

I enjoyed it! Reminded me of the good ol' days of watching Home Movies. I'm surprised so many people are hating on it, would you rather have three MacFarlane shows in a row? H. Jon Benjamin's delivery was great as always, and his interactions with the family were the highlight of the show. Especially that talking through the glass scene "Dad, it's Gene."

Overall, I give it a thumbs up and will be catching more episodes.

Hey I did the same thing too and I think most rating of Cleveland are because of it made something of a segway between Simpsons and Family Guy (hopefully if American Dad goes down because of the new timeslot, Cleveland will sink too )

I'd rather have American Dad than a piece of crap like this, yes.

It was a bit rough, but it had its moments. I kind of like the direction of it, i.e.- the quickness of the cuts. Some of the characters are grating, but there was definitely a feel that this show knew what it was doing, that these characters should be slightly annoying. I did like how Bob's speech at the end started out deep, but then turned into a mini-defense of cannibalism. Didn't care for the resolution though (a group of freaks who like to eat people).

I may stay with it if it keeps the same time slot.

was pretty unimpressed, I did enjoy the voices of the health inspectors being Fenton and Mr Lynch and the funeral parlor guy being Paula's crazy boss

Yeah it felt like almost like I was watching an episode of Home Movies, which I liked. It just seems like this show is not going to be given a chance because most people just don't "get" the Home Movies style of humor, especially not the MacFarlane/Animation Domination crowd. Overall it got WAY more laughs out of me than The Simpsons did tonight.

Kept it on after The Simpsons out of laziness and I think it was alright. Not really something I'd go out of my way to watch, but that wasn't too terrible for a pilot and I'm willing to give it another shot. Felt like they knew what they wanted to do, maybe a different storyline can bring the characters out a little more.

    I liked Louise.

I guess I liked it... the 1st act didn't bode well (lotta cliches; haha the dad forgot the anniversary, the kids are brats, the health inspector, etc.) but it eventually won me over by the 4th (speaking of which, are 4 acts mandated by fox now?)

the kids are a little insufferable, the wife's voice is unpleasant, and the staging is rather flat (like the kitchen scene where there's 7 characters just standing in a row for like 2 minutes)... but it had a fairly good hit:miss joke ratio, it was a lot darker than the ads made it out to be, and it had a tidy little storyline. I like the trademark loren bouchard conversation-y style, which always feels a lot more natural than when family guy tries it. basically it felt like home movies with tighter pacing. I hope it does well and is given enough time to develop so fox can finally put the simpsons out of its misery

I figure this'll never get shown in this country.

The only reason I know of this show is that I happened to be in the US at the time when the ads were airing. Sheesh, even they looked awful.

dan mintz I can understand, but I honestly have no idea why they went with john roberts for the female lead... it's super-noticeable and irritating. were there no female improv comics available or something? a rhea perlman-type would've worked better

Listen, I admire FOX's attempts to broaden their animation lineup, but chicken crap isn't going to cut it.

This new show was mildly funny at best. I did enjoy the oddball cutting between gags, but even as a pilot, this was highly uninteresting.

Even if I had a better opinion of this show, I still don't appreciate how these new Sunday night entries keep cutting in on American Dad.

it was like the half the Home Movies vocal cast meeting a third of the Flight of the Conchords and making something not as good as either

it wasn't actually too bad. Seems just like a Adult Swim show. Not bad not really good by any means , but I will def. give it a try.

It wasn't bad, I'd like to see it given time develop as it's a show that'll probably get a lot better over time. Voices w're distracting for the reasons already mentioned, but I don't think I'll ever get tired of Jon Benjamin's voice, and I love Kristen Schaal as well. Eugene Mirman works pretty well too. But yeah really weird decision for the mum, there's loads of good Female improv comics so I can't understand it. Even just falling back on someone like Melissa or Janine from Home Movies would have been a better decision.

It certainly does feel like an Adult Swim show, made palatable for a mainstream network.

Well, it COULD pull a Home Movie's and get way better. But I doubt it. I really did want to like the show, but I can't.

You know, I sort of like it. It's a fixer upper for sure, it lacks focus (even for this kind of comedy) and sort of meandered, but I think it can grow more than previous new outings could lately. I can see so much of Dr. Katz and Home Movies sort of humor in this and I'm not surprised it's not winning over everyone; before it became sort of cool to like it retrospectively I remember a ton of people despised Home Movies in its first outing. People waiting for like, gag like jokes aren't gonna get it very often, it's just not the style. It's just nice to me to watch something on this channel that was obviously table read in parts. And even though the character designs are absolutely atrocious, the animation isn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. It can be surprisingly expressive actually in terms of movements.

The kid's are definitely a weak point, as is Linda's man voice. I get it, she has a hoarse voice...but it's not the kind of joke that's meant to be a series long running one. I think they should consider maybe changing the voice though they probably won't. The kids are all established but they sort of feel like one character to me so far. Bob himself is awesome though, but it's H. Jon Benjamin's voice backing him up. Still, I think the character himself is pretty great. I don't know about tertiary characters or just how far this premise can go, but the pilot is usually pretty tough to pull off because it has to cover so many bases to establish the show. (though I don't know why so literally sometimes...) So I want to see how it handles regular episodes past this point.

And I gotta get one more thing off my chest, I know this sort of humor's not everyone's cup of tea...which is fine, I'm not saying it's wrong to not like what you see, but I feel like a lot of people here or elsewhere are in somewhat of a rush to want to hate this thing right off the bat, and I think a lot of that comes from this bumping American Dad down to 7:30. That's kind of not fair, it's not these guys' fault that the show got bumped down. I'd love it more than anyone if the Cleveland show were bumped down instead, because I feel like that show's getting a free pass just because its the newest of Seth's stuff...but whatever the case it's Fox' decision not these guys.

In short I'm not saying it's won me over because it hasn't, it just has some elements I sort of like the look of so far so I want to see where it goes first.

Watching Bob's Burgers last night made me thankful for the Simpsons

Wow, what can I say? World premier, lots of hype... what an absolute failure of a show. Terribly unfunny, boring plot, extremely questionable choice of voice actors, at times it tried too hard, but just failed. It's not often I can sit through a 30 minute show and be bored out of my mind like I was last night. I know I should probably give it more time, but I just don't see the potential in this show particularly with the actors, who seem to have extremely little talent.

Yes even during one of the most disappointing periods in Simpsons history, it's still better than that crap I saw last night on Bob's Burgers.

Gotta say, it was pretty hard to sit through at first. A child talking about their itchy crotch, molestation joke, constant farting sounds, dialogue that goes on way too long/repetitive, and weird/bad voice acting. Basically issues many Adult Swim shows have.

It seemed to get better as the episode went on.

I watched The Simpsons before Bob's Burgers (first time I've seen a new Simpson episode on TV in many years) - Wow, that was pure garbage. Bob's Burger's was still easily better than The Simpsons. Didn't bother watching Family Guy or Cleveland show (have never seen Cleveland, and haven't watched FG since the early 00's) - so I can't say how it stacked up against them.

Hopefully they'll now do some retooling just as Home Movies did early in it's run. Change the wife's voice (and maybe others), don't let the dialogue get too repetitive (Home Movies dialogue is not going to work on a mainstream Fox show - Sometimes it can be funny, but other times it's just plain irritating), and cut down the crude, low-brow humor. A child molester burger? Really? That was just stupid and painful to watch.

Jon Benjamin's voice really carried this episode. His voice is hilarious.. I can't help but laugh any time I hear it. I'd rather they have just done a Home Movies spinoff about Coach Mcgurk. A half hour of nothing but Mcgurk..That would be brilliant.

So we'll see.. Id' say the show was a lot better than the previews protrayed it, but still has a ton of room to improve. Considering this was just the pilot - it'll be interesting to see how the show shapes up over the next episodes (assuming it's still on the air next week).
"Socialism is inseparably interwoven with totalitarianism and the object worship of the state. It will prescribe for every one where they are to work, what they are to work at, where they may go and what they may say. Socialism is an attack on the right to breathe freely. No socialist system can be established without a political police. They would have to fall back on some form of Gestapo, no doubt very humanely directed in the first instance."

I love Coach McGuirk, but I don't want to see him get his own show, I want to see something new.

I said it was ok, which means I quite liked it, it just has a lot of room for improvement, but I'm sure I'll stay with it a while yet. Don't understand some of the complaints in this thread or how sensitive people are being over some things.

I only watched 8 minutes of this and then it froze which was really annoying. I'll perhaps look again later but I found it really hard to find a working link. Anyway, I enjoyed it. It seemed like a funny show and I loved the gags where it cut around and stuff. Didn't like the whole scratching her crotch gag but apart from that, I don't get the rage. I get that American Dad is a good show and people are sad about this replacing it but still, this show was enjoyable enough.

  29. #89

It's not so much people being mad that it replaced American Dad, (because AD isn't definitely canceled just on hold) it's that they kept Cleveland Show.

    I really liked it
sure it wasn't perfect but most pilot episodes arent the best, I'll keep watching for a couple weeks to see how it goes.
