I've never seen it, but how would you explain the difference between Family Guy and The Cleveland Show in humor and narrative style?

Well they are not that much of a difference, but I would say that Family Guy is totally wacky while Cleveland aim at being a sitcom (which always seem to be what McFarlane tried to do at first)

    Mr. Ed had a horse.

My Father the Car had a talking car.

    Spin City had Parkinsons

I Love Lucy had not only a pregnancy but an interacail relationship (Both unheard of on TV at the time...)

Family Matter had Urkel.. and Robot Urkel... and Stephan Ur-kel

And I foget what it was, but there was some blatant Married With Children rip off that stared a puppet bunny voiced by Bobcat Goldswaith.

(I thank LuxFixxins for providing me with a list of Wacky sitcom sidekick, probably wouldn't have gotten it on my own)

The Cleveland Show has storylines that are pretty much lifted from your achetypical sitcom, the animation just a way for more to make the wackier humour of the authors possible

American Dad was at first suppose to be all about an update of All in the Family but overtime morph itself into something with more bizzare and daring storyline, I think mostly because the writers manage to sucessfully use Stan job at the CIA rather than just what happen at home (since it could give Sci-fi Device and basicly gave Stan a job were he had to do pretty questionable thing)

But Cleveland pretty much is limited to how wacky the character are in term of humour and it doesn't seem to evolve at all and the setting rather generic

I saw the first few episodes, and it's weird, it's quite laid-back in style and suprisingly emotional, but still comes out with a lot of dark, weird jokes. Most of the side characters suck at the moment, but the bear is suprisingly ok. I think it has potential to do what American Dad did, but I'm not sure they'll pull it off.

    Surprisingly emotional?
    How do you mean?
Do they provide intimate and tender scenes?
Do they explore the feelings of the characters in a sincere way?
Do you get emotionally involved with the characters while watching?

besides of alot of annoying black jokes, I kind of agree with mt. doom that it is slightly less colder hearted(not quite emotional) and laid back version of family guy

It's not very successful with it, but it's stories are more grounded than I expected, it's whole tone is just a little more serious than family guy.

This show has all the plot and characterization that folks say Simpson episodes lack, .. then why is it so boooring?
If that's what plot and characterization gets you,.. then I want no part of it!

    What kind of characterization?
Cleveland was always pretty boring in Family Guy.
Did they change the portrayal of his character?
