    it's back

Apparently Amazon is pre-selling an item that Fox is releasing called Futurama: The Complete Collection. Complete, as in "everything Futurama", as in "you can't get more complete than this"...in other words, "no more new Futurama".

Taking into account that besides one random interview with Billy West and another with David X. Cohen (around the release of Wild Green Yonder last February, mind you), we haven't heard zip. Could this full release be the final death knell of the series? I wouldn't mind, as the DTVs were all over the place in quality and we got another kick-ass ending that really wrapped things up.

However, as improbable as it seems, I would love a Futurama theatrical film. That would be awesome...

It doesn't mean it's the end, there was a "Complete Collection" for the 4 seasons as well.
"Look, Marge, you don't know what it's like. I'm the one out there every day putting his ass on the line. And i'm not out of order! You're out of order. The whole freaking system is out of order. You want the truth? You want the truth?! You can't handle the truth! Because when you reach over and put your hand into a pile of goo, that was your best friend's face, you'll know what to do! Forget it, Marge. It's Chinatown!" - Homer's rant.

Until I hear Cohen or Groening themselves saying it's over, then there is always a possibility.

And yes, I would love a theatrical film.

ATHF is getting another movie? Really? On a whim I watched the first one and I feel like it stole seventy minutes of my life that I'll never get back.

As much as I enjoy Futurama, I think this might be as good a time as any to call it quits. If they went back to doing thirty minute episodes I might be more inclined for them to continue, but the direct to dvd movies were very uneven in parts and I think it had to do with trying to stretch the characters and plots too far. We got four more Futurama adventures and the satisfying resolution to the series that had been sorely lacking for so long. I say quit while you're ahead.

Yea..The 4 movies sorta ruined things for me. I hope they know to call it quits.

I would bet that theyre done making new stuff.

"Socialism is inseparably interwoven with totalitarianism and the object worship of the state. It will prescribe for every one where they are to work, what they are to work at, where they may go and what they may say. Socialism is an attack on the right to breathe freely. No socialist system can be established without a political police. They would have to fall back on some form of Gestapo, no doubt very humanely directed in the first instance."

To be honest I kind of think it had a good run and doesn't need anymore. Out of all the shows I own on DVD, Futurama has the least replay value and really doesn't hold up very well at all.

I don't think that's a sign that the show is done, Fox just wants us to believe exactly that - and "make" us buy the boxset.

While I remain a fan, I also feel it's run out of steam. I won't be sad if there aren't any more releases.

Wow, maybe I spoke too soon.

Exclusive: Comedy Central Goes Back to the FUTURAMA

Good news everybody! An inside source has revealed exclusively to Collider that “Futurama” has been given a 13 episode order by Comedy Central. Though still technically a rumor at this point, word is that “Futurama” production offices have already opened and that casting is about to move forward.

This should be a welcome surprise to fans of the show who have already gone through the series’ cancellation and resurrection as direct-to-DVD movies.

Look for official word in the very near future. Though animation has a big lead time, I would guess on some kind of “Futurama” presence at Comic Con next month.
Wow, that's nearly 14 million dollars they're spending. I guess CC has more cash than I originally thought...

Yess just saw that myself as well. Is Collider a reliable source, is all I want to know at this point.

I wouldn't be terribly upset if there's no Futurama anymore ever, but hell, if this is real, then I'm still pretty stoked. The movies were up and down but the last one was pretty fantastic and I feel that the show should still be able to continue on pretty well, maintaining a pretty good quality level (recalling earlier comments from shortly after ITWGY's release about DXC said he was thinking about where to go next in the series, like, in the shower and whatever).

At this point, wanting Futurama to return is like wanting a wheelchair-bound World War II veteran to lead a modern-day attack on the Nazis.

it's rumored. The beginning is easily the best part.

and between South Park, what they made off Chapelle's show, and reruns of other shows, i'd say yeah CC has some money

great if Futurama comes back and also great that this doesn't mean more movie length episodes. I take every season about these four movies.

Yeah I was going to mention that it is continuing on Comedy Central for sure but you guys found out first.

I wonder if it'll go to a status quo or continue after where the last movie left off (Which I thought personally, if left as the conclusion, was a pretty nice way to end it.)

See? The fact that Fox is done with Futurama doesn't mean that CC is. Anyway, AWESOME NEWS! And real episodes this time.

    Awesome news!

Some rumors mentioned that FOX had their eye on Futurama in recent months. If so, then they of all networks don't deserve it.

Actually, I know I said I don't care, but the fact that the new stuff will be in episodical form makes me more excited for it. It's definitely the preferred format; movies suffered from pacing issues I feel wouldn't exist in a 20 min show.

I like how everything ended up being the complete opposite of the thread title, haha.

I don't really have anything to add besides that I agree with the general sentiment--the films were sort of uneven, but new episodic content is pretty thrilling and I'll be sure to tune in if/when it comes back.

I'm definitely not getting my hopes up. I still feel like the show died around 2004. I can't imagine anything turning out good on Comedy Central.

I'm kind of ambivalent to it returning, I quite liked the movies even though they weren't as good as the series, but I do think it was really constrained by how it had to be structured. So another series could be much better, also I hope they get a bigger writing staff, that's probably another thing that let down the movies.

when watching "iwgy" last night, i was realizing that although the movies weren't fantastic at times, if the show went back to a episodic run then maybe it could get better...and wow, awesome news.
