HOW TO SHOW YOUR SUPPORT DURING THE WGA STRIKE - A message from Al Jean to NHC

The following is a personal message from Al Jean to all the members of The NoHomers Club:

To The Members of No Homers:

If you would like to show how you have appreciated the
writing on the Simpsons over the years, and show your
support for the Simpsons writers during the current
WGA strike, you can log onto
    http://unitedhollywood.blogspot.com/, where there will
be a banner or button allowing you to click through to
buy boxes of pencils. The pencils are plain wooden
#2’s, and the company uses sustainable farming for the
wood. The pricing is approximately a dollar a box.
(Sustainably harvested wood pencils + PayPal cost per
transaction puts us a little higher than the cost of a
box if you buy at Office Depot, sorry.) If there’s
any money left over, it will be donated to the Union
Solidarity Fund, which is a nonprofit for non-WGA
    members affected by the strike.

When you click to buy the pencils, you can choose to
    identify
the show you are supporting. If you choose to click
"Familly Guy", fine with me. The pencils will be
delivered in bulk, to the 6 CEOs of the 6 congloms
(Disney, News Corp, Viacom, Time Warner, CBS, GE) one
    by one.

Feel free to include a polite message with your
pencils. Please do not say "get new writers". We
appreciate your support, as we have appreciated all of
your interest and enthusiasm over the past 20 years.

    Al Jean

Show your support, Simpsons fans! If you're at this site, it's most likely because you like The Simpsons (whether past or present), so here's your chance to support those who write and have written the show. Or if you don't like The Simpsons, but you like NHC, keep in mind this place wouldn't exist at all if not for The Simpsons. Or even if the idea of a CEO's office being flooded by pencils amuses you, why not donate? It's quick, easy and only a dollar. They've got my support.

Whatever. Why not something actually related to writing? Sure, you write with pencils, but what's the imagination in that?

Glad he thought of us..But...most of us here do not have enough money to give a shred to that cause. Even if I did..There much more worthy places for my money.

So..Who is going to start the anti-campaign and send letters to the execs explicitly saying "Get new writers"?
"Socialism is inseparably interwoven with totalitarianism and the object worship of the state. It will prescribe for every one where they are to work, what they are to work at, where they may go and what they may say. Socialism is an attack on the right to breathe freely. No socialist system can be established without a political police. They would have to fall back on some form of Gestapo, no doubt very humanely directed in the first instance."

I figured what the hey, I support the writers, I'd like to see the show come back, and finals are coming up and my students need #2's, so I bought five boxes.

you guys do know the idea is not to buy pencils for yourself.... it's to buy pencils to fill Rupie's office with enough pencils that he can't move without giving himself lead poisoning and a big enough gash that all the tetanus jabs in the world won't help him.

Oh and I want my box to be dropped on the floor so every time someone tries to write with them, the lead breaks.

*sigh* if the idea of it annoyed him I would have done it.

"get a new showrunner" it is then.

But seriously this isn't a bad idea particulary this bit

I guess Jean is aware of how much we don't like the show now.

Had he left this line out...

I think you've missed the point. If you enjoy ANY scripted show on TV written by members of the WGA (which is just about every show), you're helping those shows too by donating the dollar. It doesn't matter if you like The Simpsons anymore or not - as long as you like anything on TV, your donation helps.

I just paid for a box in support of The Office. Nothing against The Simpsons, it's just that I'm more sympathetic to The Office's position. Greg Daniels said about half the audience had been coming from iTunes, and I'm sure a sizable chunk of people (including me) are watching the replays on nbc.com, where the writers don't get any residuals. The Simpsons on the other hand is not currently digitally distributed, plus it gets syndicated like 50 times a day across the US.

I didn't really mean it though, hence the "but seriously"
I'm not an Al Jean hater, I feel ambivalent towards him.

I promise you all, I'm much nicer in person. In fact why am I say much nicer, I am nice here, anything I say that's rude and mean is meant ironically.

    As you were thread.

Ha, love how even in trying to rally as much support as possible for the WGA, even pointing out that this is for any show the WGA works on and not just "The Simpsons", Al still has to have a dig at "Family Guy".

    Yeah, bought a box.
