The worst of season one is the camping episode. This is 2nd worst but equally unfunny. I don't mind the preachiness (it was very common for late 80's-early 90's American sitcoms) but I do mind the lack of me laughing my ass off, which is what comedy should make you do. Jon Vitti is my favorite Simpsons writer but this is his worst episode.

I'm sure Vitti has wrote a fair few zombie Simpsons episodes so I doubt this is his worst one.

Dude, do you even like any "Zombie Simpsons" episode? Little Girl At The Big Ten and Simple Simpson are both top10 post-classics for me and definitely better than Homer's Night Out. And I don't even hate this episode like some people do, although I could because it is really incompetent in terms of story, emotion or even comedy. Must be the season 1 feel what makes me enjoy it more than what it's worth.

sorry, i liked this episode. the fact that the chain of events eventually vaulted homer to near-celebrity status was quite amusing to me....

^ Forced emotion, silly moral conflict and low level of comedy.

The weakest episode so far in the season (this is the 10th one and still 3 to go), but it's not bad. As many other episodes in this season, there's at least at much emphasis on the drama as on the comedy. The jokes were not laugh-out-loud ones, but they were pleasant and good enough to cause smiles, particularly Bart's antics during the whole episode, the quick diffusion of the picture through Springfield, the stuff with Mr. Burns and also the stuff at Barney's home.

The story was good, although it suffered a bit because Homer's misbehavior this time was not that bad, certainly not bad enough to merit being kicked out of the house. The ending was also a bit preachy. Now, I don't mind values in a show, in fact I dislike the amorality and nihilism of shows like Family Guy, but that side could have been handled better, in a less in-your-face manner, like it was in the previous episode (Life on the Fast Lane), for example.

Anyway, I liked the drama and the character work here. It makes me appreciate the characters and care about them. I miss that side of The Simpsons in seasons after the Golden Age of the show.

    Grade: B-

Eh. It was okay. the comedy was low, however the part where Homer and Bart look for April but keep ending up at the wrong strip club (each getting more and more dirtier as they go) is quite a classic for me.

Mid 3/5. Glad this isn't a season 21-24 episode, mainly 24. Marge would be b!tchy with her dumb voice the whole episode. -_-'

I know this is only Season 1 but this episode really was crap. I didn't laugh once, it's a ridiculous storyline that is too serious and then it ends with everyone crying because of some speech Homer did. I hate this episode 1/5

  16. #76

Hate this episode as well, Marge's self-righteous attitude is really grating.

I'm glad the writers got rid of the sanctimonous moral preaching in the episodes later on.

Marge overreacted to the picture, and this episode is boring. 4/10

I don't really consider this episode "preachy"; I think many episodes have done this type of thing where Homer sees his error and warns other people of the dangers of committing said error and the like. The most underrated episode of season 1.

This episode was not as good as i remembered, but its still a pretty good episode and not as terrible as everyone says. I enjoyed Bart with the Spy camera. Some of the town reactions over the picture was amusing too. It true that it is a little dull at parts. And Marge reaction are perhaps a little unnatural. But i was not bored to tears or anything, and i dont think Marge was that bad, as thats still how you could react if something like that happened. Overall, my mainproblem with the episode was that it was a bit more dull forgettable than other season 1 episodes. But i still think its a bit better than Call Of The Simpsons and Some Enchanted Evening. Grade:B-

8/10. This is probably my favorite episode of season 1. Good storyline and plenty of laughs. Bart with the spy camera was hilarious, as was the reaction his pic caused upon Springfield. This is the episode where the shows was beginning to come into fruition

Pretty average, although i still enjoy it to an extent. Not as good as Life on the Fast Lane in my opinion either. I don't even find a lot funny from this one, i mean it's bad...but so much overreacting over a silly photo, an iffy one from Season 1.

Even though Marge is overreacting as hell, I just don't hate this episode at all.
I like how it really escalates with Homer's photo and the spy camera subplot is pure gold.
Come on guys, this episode is funny! My favorite scene is with Homer and Mr. Burns, since any time Homer and Burns are bonding, it becomes strangely hilarious. And while the ending is kind of preachy, I don't mind it.
Along with Homer's Odyssey, the most underrated episode of the season. Maybe even one of the most underrated of the series.
Seriously, it doesn't even deserve half of all the flack people give it. 9/10

I always forget how much I dislike this episode until I binge watch the Simpsons and stumble upon it. God, it sucks. I tried to be nice about it since it's S1 and the show was still young but honestly, I can't say a nice thing about it. AWFUL

Also, I HATED Marge throughout this episode. She made such a big deal out of the picture. And I don't mean to be psychotic but this is the one Simpsons episode ever that makes me wish Marge was dead (yeah, I know, a bit OTT but Marge really pissed me off in this ep). Additionally, there's nothing humorous or engaging about it. The ending is so sappy and preachy too. Seriously, someone find a good thing to say about this ep.

1/5 In my bottom 50 for worst episodes ever and possibly worse than When Flanders Failed (if any of you know my fiery hatred for WFF, you'll really see how my passing comment towards this ep is a major insult).

Not horrible, but not very good either. Homer wasn't doing anything too bad, and Marge overreacted. The jokes weren't very funny either. 3/5

What a bland, slightly-cringe, oddity of an episode. I didn't find this as anti-Simpsons as say 'There's No Disgrace Like Home' or outright bad like 'Homer's Odyssey'. This episode was mostly just problematic. The message was problematic. The structure was problematic. It was very noticably lacking the sharp satire and irreverance that later episodes which focused on gender issues would demonstrate. Sure, Marge is somewhat justified about being pissed, but she's not so angry that Homer danced with another woman, but feels as though he was objectifying her. Princess Cashmere is an exotic dancer by profession, and it at least appears to be out of choice and something she enjoys. I don't think Homer was wrong to get up there and dance with other (other than the fact that it's somewhat disrespectful to his wife), Cashmere invited him. Not to mention it ends on this preachy over-the-top, extremely unsubtle, message shoved down our throats which feels more at home in an after school special than an episode of the greatest sitcom of all time. Bart's antics amused me though, especially him photographing roadkill.

    Definately below average. 5.5/10
