Not the best episode of season 8 but it was pretty good i think. the Wiggum story was excellent . the Moe and Grampa story was pretty fun to. The last one was poorly bad.

excellent. I'm quite surprised that I never get tired of watching it, it always feels like a treat, not least of all because it's much more different than the average episode.

even if you only vaguely understand what is being parodied, I think you'll still get a kick out of it, it's disappointing to see how much it's disliked.

I don't really count this as a normal episode, so I won't grade it normally. This is like a parody of other TV shows that has been around, so its concept resembles more to THOH rather than clips show and such and such.

    Chief Wiggum P.I.:
Well this one looked very promising in the first 3 or 4 minutes. The plot development looked good with the presence of 'Big Daddy' and skull being thrown into the room. There were some good one-liners that I can remember... such as 'These rubber pants are hot' and it was quite clever to call Skinner as 'Skinny Boy'. The rest was a disappointment; the story ended too abruptly for my liking. There could've been more action in the last minutes of the segment, in my opinion.

    2/5

    Love-Matic Grampa:

Finally, something good here. I usually don't like laugh-tracks, but with the show that usually doesn't use it, I think it was clever to use the laugh-track on this one as a purpose for the experimental episode. This segment had a clever story and good characterazation of lonely Moe.... and this one-liner definetly goes into one of my 'top quotes' list:

"Sounds good; And if this love tester's as accurate as it looks, maybe we'll be having breakfast, too."

    5/5

“The Simpson Family Smile-Time Variety Hour”.

This had no plot, but I still LOVE this one. I thought it was clever for Lisa declining to be into the show and using the replacment actress for her place. The beaver scene was pretty amusing... but I love the candy song. Bart, "Lisa", and Maggie dancing on 'Peppermint Twist' was a biggest highlight of the episode for me. Then there's Smithers' "Whip It"... which actually has become popular between some members (wink, wink) here. No plot, not much of characterization, but very amusing. I'm not inclining to grade this one, but if I had to I'd give it 5/5

    4/5 Overall
    calmer than you are

    Chief Wiggum PI- B
    Love-matic grandpa- A
    Variety show- C

The way the characters behave in the love-matic grandpa is so great, playing to the laugh track, etc.

Like most of the latter part of Season 8 - It was weak. 3/5 at the most..
"Socialism is inseparably interwoven with totalitarianism and the object worship of the state. It will prescribe for every one where they are to work, what they are to work at, where they may go and what they may say. Socialism is an attack on the right to breathe freely. No socialist system can be established without a political police. They would have to fall back on some form of Gestapo, no doubt very humanely directed in the first instance."

I always liked this episode. I think some people miss the point; it's supposed to be bad. It's a parody of corny television and spinoffs.
But if you do "get" it...guess it's not your cup of tea.
I don't feel like writing a long review, so I'll just rate it. :silly:

I saw this again recently and my thoughts haven't changed really. It's a guilty pleasure episode for me. While it's silly, it's meant to be. The first segment was amusingly playful with its source materials and it was also kinda cool strangely, the second one was hilarious just because the idea is so off the wall and downright weird...and it's Moe and Grampa doing it. Finally the last one is really still tough to sit through because it copied the source material just too well. It's funny because I can commend it for that, but it's source material is so awful that even the copy suffers the same fate. lol

It's just a very fun episode. I'd maybe give it a 3/5 by now though. It's all around fluffy silliness, and while the first two were cool the last one...no matter where it's coming from, is just painful to watch. I find that fact funny in itself, but regardless...

4/5 from me. Took off a point because like most people here I didn't really like the third skit. It had a few good jokes but overall was kinda meh. The first two skits are great though especially Moe and Grampa's with that catchy theme song. And seeing Troy McClure is always good. Shows like this that break the format of the regular show can be great if executed right and this one was a success in my opinion. Great episode.

It wasn't bad, but it was weak in some places. The last segment lacked the charm the first two had, but the show-bending format was nice and fresh. A decent 3/5.

I didn't like the first segment, it just had little laughs. The second one was good, but the last one was my favorite. I thought it was hilarious seeing the Simpsons act like the Brady Bunch, and replacing Lisa was funny. Overall it's ok, but nothing special. B/B-

I love it. Cheif Wiggum P.I. and Love-Matic Grampa are both hilarious. The last segment is the weakest, but still a lot of good fun. And the wrap around with Troy is great as usual.

The first two segments were really great, I actually think a Cheers-like animated sitcom starring Moe (without Grampa) could've been a great show.

It's funny how the Osbournes are trying a similar variety show like the third segment.

It's okay, but very un-Simpsony. It's probably my least favorite of the non-THOH episodes. Still, it's not so bad, as there are some decent laughs. Overall, a slightly harsh 3/5.

I think most people who are giving this episode a 1/5, do not get the premise of the episode. It is my favorite non-THOH anthology episode, with one of the best segment in Simpsons history: Chief Wiggum PI

The transitions to each spinoff with Troy McClure are simply brilliant and I love the Wiggum: PI segment. I would also say the Lovematic Grampa is decent, but the last one was kind of all over the place. Still, I really appreciate the way it's mocking genres of television. 4/5

I absolutely despise this episode. It isn't very funny (except for the Ralph scenes which never fail to make me laugh), and it's sort of lame. 1/5. Ranked number 150 on my top 150.

1/5. The only one I could sit through was Chief Wiggum, PI. In fact, I'm not sure if I even finished this episode at all.

An average 3 for me. I like the episode... well I like the first two, but the third one I thought wasn't as good and I found it cheap that lisa wasn't in it lol.

Let me make this very clear to you. We GET the premise of the episode. We UNDERSTAND that it is satire. The "SATIRE" in the third act of the episode, is so bad it's nearly unbearable to watch. There's a difference between making fun of something, and trying so hard to make fun of something you turn into the very thing you're making fun of. When a satire makes you want to rip your eyes out and shove them in your ears, it's not good satire. You're basically saying, "Oh, but it's satire, so that automatically makes it a great episode! 5/5!", or "Oh, they hate the episode, so that automatically means they don't understand the premise!"

I don't vehemently hate it as much as Jacob, but in the commentary even they say they might have crossed the line between "making fun of bad" and "just being bad"
