    5/5. I know i am definitely in the minority, but i LOVE the Simpsons episodes where they sing a song and dance {i can't think of one song i don't like.}

I love the musical numbers. But they must be in the context of their respective episodes to achieve maximum effect. Having them appear one after another in a clip show does not work well. 'Paint Your Wagon' was great. 2/5

    gonna paint that wagon,
    gonna paint it good,
gonna paint a wagon till its shining GOOD!

I swear thats gonna be in my head for a long time.

    other wise it kinda sucked.

    2/5

I think another non clip musical episode would be nice

Paint Your Wagon was hilarious, as was Snake's anger that he found himself singing too. I didn't care for the musical theme of the clip show, as there was not a plot to hold everything together. However, as someone on a DVD commentary once said, "We liked this stuff the first time around, so why the hatred?" (roughly, that is)

Outside of Snake, I really hated this episode.

Personally, I can't stand "musical episodes", where a great portion of the time is dealt to singing, especailly in a clip show where you devote the entire episode to past montages. Granted, I do love some of the songs ("The Stonecutter's Theme", "Who Needs the Kwik-e-Mart?", and the slightly-modified rendition of "In a Gadda da Vida" by Iron Butterfly) but when used in a few clips, you tend to skip the fact that some of the songs actually set up other things in those episodes, and by just using the songs, you make the episode look like a dumb sing-a-long.

Like I said: I loved Snake's involvment, particularly during the credits, but other than that, there is nothing of note for me.

Random Note: Did anyone notice the first name Snake shoots in the credits is Phil Hartman? Does anyone else find that sorta creepy?

I agree that this is the worst clip show they ever did. I own this episode on DVD, and I've never watched it. I like the songs in the Simpsons, but only within the context of the episode. The only thing I got out of this episode is I found out there actually WAS movie called "Paint your Wagon." Clint Eastwood and Lee Marvin in a musical sounds like a joke, but that movie actually exists. Otherwise, this episode is simply filler on the schedule.

I'll make a bit of a revision. Singing episodes don't irritate me as much as they used to (although an episode like Homer of Seville will be pretty terrible in my eyes regardless of that). One thing that stood out to me, at least in the first five minutes was how likeable the family was in this episode in the context of season 9. It's still a clip show and the new songs are quite awkward in parts, but now I don't consider this episode toe be all that awful. Perhaps Mirkin as executive produver helped. C-

I read that in one of those guide books to the seasons I think. I know I read it somewhere and I was going to post it but I thought maybe it was too grim or dark or something

    Oh ok.

But if it's printed in the official Simpsons guide book, it surely isn't going to be too dark for a Simpsons forum site.

When is an episode not an episode?
When it is a d*mn clipshow!

People who want a lot of music-fragments bundled together, this is your joytime-episode.
Man, you're gonna be in for it. All those musical numbers of the classic era compressed in 21 minutes.

And for the rest... please switch to the next episode.

D I hate clipshows. Paimt your wagon saved it from failing though

Paint Your Wagon is too good for me to give this a 1, so a 1.1 will have to suffice.
