Huh, the lines always looked super thin and tidy on later seasons (ymmv on if that's a good thing) it's a little weird to see them look thicker and messier up close!

Everything we've seen from this episode screams Steven Dean Moore so it looks like the start of the director rotation is remaining intact to kick off the YABFs.

Excited for Mad about the Toy to have an elaborate plot that calls for the best direction around and it’s directed by Bob Anderson.

A fitting episode to air... albeit a year ahead of its 30th anniversary.
Am I correct in that it last aired in primetime back in mid-April of 2012 for some odd reason?

Yes, It aired on 4/22/2012 along with the series premier episode of Married with Children right before the presentation of the FOX television 25th anniversary special.

Promo shots are now up for 'Tis the 30th Season.
Rob Oliver is traditionally next up in the director rotation... but this sure doesn't look like Rob Oliver to me.
Looks more like Bob Anderson... or someone new. But considering how underwhelmed I am, it's probably Bob Anderson.

Not sure how much stock to put in this but one of the Simpsons Discords has this script cover page floating around (supposedly from Instagram) but without a direct source or writer attribution.

This would leave us with one final episode title reveal (we know that final live read has already taken place).

EDIT: We have confirmation this ep is written by John Frink.

Consider it done. I'll even let you know if the credit order shifts around.

EDIT: I might have missed it (will need to rewatch the opening credits later) but I believe every producer remained intact with the exception of Megan Amram no longer being listed as a Consulting Producer.

Your predictions for the YABF Selman episodes?

The Clown in the Picture is obviously going to be Selman since he’s writing it, and whatever YABF22 ends up being will probably be Selman.

    My predictions are:
    - The Clown Stays in the Picture, because was written by him.
    - Bart vs. Itchy & Scratchy and Thanksgiving of Horror, because Al Jean didn't tweet about it.
    - Go Big or Go Homer or YABF22. Al Jean didn't tweet about YABF21. And considering that YABF22 could be the last of the series, I doubt very much that it has been attributed to Selman. Although it is true that in the last five cycles ?ABF22 was an effort of Matt. I suppose that the fourth episode of Selman will come out of them.
Fan of the Outstanding Animated Show of 2019.

    SEASON 31 - RATINGS
The Winter of Our Monetized Content: 3/5 / Go Big or Go Homer: 3/5 / The Fat Blue Line 4/5
Treehouse of Horror XXX: 4/5 / Gorillas on the Mast: 3/5 / Marge the Lumberjill: 2/5
Livin' La Pura Vida: 5/5 / Thanksgiving of Horror: 5/5 / Todd, Todd, Why Hast Thou Forsaken Me: 2/5
Bobby, It's Cold Outside: TBA / Hail of the Teeth: TBA

Given our consensus Season 30 R&R ratings as a site, this is shaping up to be the least remarkable season out of the entire HD era.

We have a total of three episodes presently ranked above a score of 3.50...

    Daddicus Finch - 3.63
Baby You Can't Drive My Car & From Russia Without Love - 3.57

Only one of these has what I would call a semi-decent IMDB user score... Baby You Can't Drive My Car has a 7.2.

Compare this with past seasons... (episodes in blue had already aired by this point in their respective seasons)

    SEASON 30

    Nothing Above 3.63

    SEASON 29

    - Gone Boy (4.00)
    - King Leer (4.00)
    - Forgive and Regret (3.90)
    - Home Is Where the Art Isn't (3.89)
    - Mr. Lisa's Opus (3.78)
    - Springfield Splendor (3.68)
    - Left Behind (3.64)

    SEASON 28

    - There Will Be Buds (3.98)
    - The Town (3.96)
    - 22 For 30 (3.69)

    SEASON 27

    - Halloween of Horror (4.24)
    - Barthood (4.01)
    - Fland Canyon (3.92)
    - The Marge-ian Chronicles (3.84)
    - Puffless (3.74)

    SEASON 26

    - I Won't Be Home for Christmas (3.86)
    - Sky Police (3.71)
    - Bart's New Friend (3.68)
    - Treehouse of Horror XXV (3.66)

    SEASON 25

    - Brick Like Me (4.17)
    - Steal This Episode (3.98)
    - The War of Art (3.80)

    SEASON 24

    - Dangers on a Train (3.72)
    - To Cur with Love (3.70)
    - The Day the Earth Stood Cool (3.65)

    SEASON 23

    - Holidays of Future Passed (4.27)
    - The Book Job (3.99)
    - A Totally Fun Thing That Bart Will Never Do Again (3.75)
    - How I Wet Your Mother (3.68)
    - The Food Wife (3.67)

    SEASON 22

    - Homer the Father (3.84)
    - Homer Scissorhands (3.84)
    - Lisa Simpson, This Isn't Your Life (3.77)
    - The Great Simpsina (3.70)
    - 500 Keys (3.65)

    SEASON 21

    - Oh Brother, Where Bart Thou? (4.07)
    - Treehouse of Horror XX (3.96)
    - The Color Yellow (3.75)
    - The Bob Next Door (3.68)
    - Postcards from the Wedge (3.67)

    SEASON 20 (HD episodes only)

    - Eeny Teeny Maya Moe (4.12)
    - Gone Maggie Gone (4.04)
    - The Good, the Sad and the Drugly (3.74)
    - Take My Life, Please (3.68)

All of the above episodes have reviewed better than the best episode from this season. And in EVERY instance except two (Seasons 22 & 25), an HD season has had at least two such episodes air prior to this point in the season.

As someone who rates season-quality based on how good the best episodes are as opposed to how many terrible/unwatchable episodes happen to come along for the ride, this is a rather disconcerting trend.

The "HD era" started how long ago? Is what came before the "SD era"? Think we need to work on the categorization. Personally, I feel we're living in the "looks somewhat better because of the new animators" era. Dunno when that started, nerds help me out here

But I quite agree that numbers gathered from an inconsistent group of people over a period of years indicate the show's overall quality, nay prove that Season 30 (still in progress) is Less Good than the other resolutely mediocre seasons

I'd say we should consider the first nine seasons the “classic era”, then seasons 10 to the second half of season 20 the “post-classic era” and everything that came after as the “modern era” (HD or zombie, as some would call it).

Bart's Not Dead, written by Stephanie Gillis, and Krusty the Clown, written by Ryan Koh, are nominated for WGA for best script of 2018 in animation. Not the best choice for me, but of course I want to any of they win. Good luck.

Mo Mommy, Mo Problems gets my vote for the best script from the crop of nominees. That Bob's Burgers ep was an absolute delight.

The general consensus for season 30 so far, aside from Daddicus Finch, seems to be that it's consistently decent/okay but nothing stands out in quality.

'Baby You Can't Drive My Car' seems to stand out about as much and is liked just about the same if going by the R&R threads; it's between that one and 'Daddicus' for me when it comes to picking my favorite of those aired so far.

I would say Bob Anderson should be the director according to the rotation, but considering Lance Kramer ended up as the director for Tis the 30th Season instead of Rob Oliver I’m not sure.
