Should you watch Dragon Ball movies while you're watching the series?

I know this has been discussed a lot, but I am very curious about whether or not I should watch the DB movies as they have a different continuity to the series (even though the last two DBZ movies are probably canon).

Should I watch them while I watch the series?

    What do you guys think?

the original 3 dragon ball movies are just alternated retellings of the the first arc-22nd budokai arcs, so they aren't required but i really love sleeping princess and mystical adventure, tho legend of shenlong kinda sucks. so may as well, their perfectly enjoyable.

i don't really care about the z movies so unless your just doing a complete run of the franchise, i wouldn't really do them besides movie 1, 2, 8, 9, 12 and 13. i do think it's fun to follow along but if you just wanna watch tje good ones, those are it. i would especially recommend the pioneer releases of 1 and 2, if your not watching the Japanese version ofc.

and then obv you should watch the trunks and burdock special.

i really like the burdock special but episode of burdock and dragon ball minus are so horrible lmao, and the funimation dub of the regular burdock special is like, big Green levels. it's so bad lol.

and i love love nozawa as gokuu/gohan/tullece/goten and her voice for burdock is still really good and i get that they wanted to keep her in a special that's so Un dragon ball like, but man i wish shigeru chiba voiced burdock.

These are really good suggestions, @cam. Thank you!

And yes, I am planning to watch the entire franchise. I'm just concerned about how the continuity of these films affect the series.

the 10th anniversary movie has a really ugly artstyle for early db, does a pretty bad job of retelling the original series and it just doesn't feel like dragon ball too me. it's a weird movie.

the gt special is kinda cute but idk it annoys me and it's just really forgettable.

if your watching the anime, movie 1 should be watched because it directly ties into a filler saga, but besides that none of the movies are needed to the series besides the trunks and burdock specials.

IF YOU WANT MY PERSONAL opinions on what movies can fit into the non existent db canon

    movie 1 can
    movies 2, 3, and 4 definitely can't
    movie 5 can
movie 6 can but you really need to fudge it
    movie 7 lmao no
movie 8 yeah but you gotta fudge some stuff
    movie 9 very easily can
    movie 10 can
    movie 11 not really
movie 12 i havent seen in years but i think it can
    movie 13 can

movies 1, 2 and 9 are probably my favorite, 1 and 2 because of they really bridge the gap between original db and tje vibe that z had and i wish that the whole series felt like those movies.

9 i like because i am sickeningly big gohan fan : pensive:

Maybe I'm looking at this too deeply, but should I watch 14 and 15 or would those films ruin Dragon Ball Super for me (if I ever get around to watching it)?

the first two arcs of super are just retellings of BoG and RoF so either way works but i don't think super should be watched but whatever i'm biased.

quality wise BoG is pretty good, it was a nice treat in 2013 and i still enjoy it, but if your gonna watch it, may as well watch the 08 OVA.

RoF i really do not like at all, and was when i started thinking that maybe the dragon ball revival was a bad idea and guess what it was.

it's pretty telling that RoF was made for western audiences and how much it focuses on fighting compared to BoG which is more toriyama brand stuff. and BoG is so much better what a surprise

It's alright... I just don't want any spoilers.

I'm still on the Red Ribbon Army saga of the original DB anime...
