Rate & Review: Family Guy - Gronkowsbees

Rob Gronkowski moves into the house behind the Griffins. Peter and his pals have a fun time hanging out with him, that is until his antics become too much for them.
Stewie starts beekeeping and beefs them up with steroids, but instead of producing more honey they want to kick his ass.

This episode has the worst title in Family Guy history.

If I still watch Family Guy when I turn 23 will you give it a chance?

    Fourth Wall Joke count: 1

Man, this season is really good so far. A lot of "the guys" episodes recently. It reminded me a lot of New Cowboy On The Block from KIng Of The Hill tbh.

Boy, that episode sucked. The main story is boring and the side-plot with the bees was just stupid. At least, some jokes were funny (for example, the cutaway with Peter getting whipped).

    Merry Christmas!

I am aware of it. As long as the characters personally don't acknowledge it I'm fine. It's no different than the ending to Mr. Griffin Goes To Washington.

Jesus christ Rob Gronkowski's delivery on all his lines were so flat and lacking of emotion or enthusiasm. That was awful.

Really bad. Stewie calling Meg outside and watching her get attack by those bees made me mad.

FG kinda fell of my radar for a little while and this was the first of the episodes I hadn't seen yet. I think at the time I wasn't exactly in a rush to watch it because it was like "Oh, an episode all about a famous football player I don't know because I don't care about football? Yawn!". Surprisingly it wasn't as much of a slog as I was expecting it to be. Maybe that's just a result of me having my expectations set as low as possible, but it was still nice to not have the whole thing be complete dogshit. Gronk's voice acting was shit and it stood out super badly during his whole speech about why he's such an ass. The bees plot was kinda dull but amusing enough and it picked up steam once it got to the chase. Dug that they actually managed to make both stories cross paths for a conclusion.

    Good gags:
    Bone Zone
Quagmire running out to see Gronk with a woman wrapped around him
"Am I running? Is this what running is? I hate it!
    Lou Ferrigno
"I thought he could eat it by the fistful or rub it on his balls
    Marley & Me
Stewie saying any old BS to sell honey
    Gronk dancing
Barry Bonds gag (The squash line was funny enough but the actual reveal of him watching the show got me good)
    Gronk tossing the bus
    Gronk invading the cutaways
"It's exhausting that you never just go along with anything I say"

    Bad gags:
    Priest sex bit
Lois' lengthy sexual fantasy about uh... I forget whatever the guys name was. One of the other Patriots players.
The Stewie back and forth with himself (It wasn't so much that it was bad, it just felt a bit too much like a bit that'd work better with Roger on American Dad).

    3/5
    How to remaster

I thought Gronk's guest spot here was fucking hilarious, and the episode did a great job of mocking him. The one thing that's sucked about The Simpsons for years now is they just bring guest stars on the show (often as themselves) and shower them with praise while never really making fun of them or trying to get some shots in. Why have these big time celebrities and treat them like any other show would? That's the one thing I have to give up to Family Guy. Just like the Liam Neeson episode, they bring in a guest star and actually try to have fun with them. Gronk promoting all of his sponsors or he won't go to heaven, calling the guys "Grover" because he doesn't like learning names, whipping Peter with a towel (including the cutaway), his delight in eating subs while beating down the guys, thinking it was raining honey, all of it worked for me. But the best exchange in the episode was: "You have bees here?!" "Uh, yeah. It's the world." For the main plot alone, this episode was worth watching.

The subplot was......the subplot, I guess. It's another edition of "Stewie and Brian just do wacky sitcom stuff because we have nothing else for them to do." I did like Stewie stretching the truth to sell more honey, and if nothing else, the subplot indirectly gave us "Oh, boy, honey rain!" and "You have bees here?" "Uh, yeah. It's the world." Damn, I'm really blanking out when it comes to remembering things in the subplot.

The Home Improvement reference was pretty funny too, along with Peter getting frustrated that Lois doesn't just go with the things he says. 3.5/5, and the three goes to the main plot with the half going to the subplot for giving us the jokes mentioned.
