"Bless the Harts" greenlighted for Fox next season

Fox has greenlit a new animated series for next season. The question is, is it the next Bob's Burgers, the next Bordertown, or the next Murder Police?

Spivey, Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, Wiig and Seth Cohen to Executive-Produce

FOX has given a straight-to-series order to BLESS THE HARTS, a half-hour animated comedy featuring the voices of Academy Award and Golden Globe nominee Kristen Wiig ("Bridesmaids," "Saturday Night Live"), Emmy Award and Screen Actors Guild Award nominee Maya Rudolph ("The Good Place," "Bridesmaids"), Emmy Award nominee Jillian Bell ("Saturday Night Live," "Eastbound & Down") and Ike Barinholtz ("Neighbors," "Blockers"). Created and executive-produced by Emmy Award winner Emily Spivey ("The Last Man on Earth," "Parks and Recreation," "Saturday Night Live"), 13 episodes of BLESS THE HARTS have been ordered, which will air during the 2019-2020 season.

"Emily Spivey has the uncanny ability to observe the simplest qualities of everyday life, framing together bold characters and hilarious stories built around warmth and heart," said Michael Thorn, President, Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company. "Having grown up in a close-knit southern family, she has a deep well of material that has inspired her to create this show, with a phenomenal cast, headlined by Kristen, Maya, Jillian and Ike. As home to television's most iconic animated families - the Simpsons, Griffins and Belchers - we're thrilled to welcome the Harts to FOX."

BLESS THE HARTS follows a group of Southerners who are always broke as a joke, and struggling for the American dream of status and wealth. What they don't realize is that they're already rich, in friends, family and laughter.

Produced by 20th Century Fox Television, BLESS THE HARTS will be executive-produced by Emily Spivey, Emmy Award and Golden Globe nominee Phil Lord ("The Last Man on Earth," "The LEGO Movie"), Emmy Award and Golden Globe nominee Christopher Miller ("The Last Man on Earth," "The LEGO Movie"), Kristen Wiig and Seth Cohen ("The Last Man on Earth," "Drunk History").

Lord and Miller, who previously worked with Spivey on their series, "The Last Man on Earth," will produce this project through their Lord Miller Productions banner, with the company's Aubrey Lee overseeing the project. The celebrated multi-hyphenate duo continue to ramp up their slate in both television and film. Up next for Lord and Miller on the film side will be the upcoming "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse," which will hit theaters this December, and "The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part," slated for release in February 2019. They are repped at UTA and Ziffren Brittenham.
Hmmm...it almost sounds like they gave Lester from The Cleveland Show his own spinoff.

("House - that was the show with Casey from Chicago Fire and Dr. Blaize from The Good Doctor, right?")

I'm glad to see more Animation on FOX. They've been on an animation drought recently since the only cartoons left are veterans and Bob's Burgers is heading out to the double digit next season.
    Simpsons: 4 > 6 = 7 > 5 > 3 > 8 > 2 > 14 > 15 > 13 = 10 > 9 > 16 > 20 > 1 > 24 = 21 > 26 > 22 = 25 > 23 > 19 = 27 > 18 = 28 > 12 > 11 > 17 = 29

    Family Guy: 4 > 3 > 2 > 1 > 5 = 6 > 15 > 16 > 10 > 14 > > 7 = 11 = 9 > 8 > 12 = 13

    American Dad: 4 > 3 > 2 > 1 > 6 > 5 > 8 > 9 > 7 = 11 > 10 > 13 (so far) > 12

    The Cleveland Show: 2 > 1 > 4 > 3

    Futurama: 5 > 4 = 1 > 2 = 3 > 7 > 6

    Rick and Morty: 2 > 1 > 3

But wait - there's more! Fox has also given a 13-episode commitment to Duncanville, by Mike & Julie Scully, for next season:

Poehler, Rashida Jones and Wiz Khalifa to Voice Characters of Family Comedy

FOX has ordered the animated family comedy DUNCANVILLE, from Golden Globe winner Amy Poehler ("Parks and Recreation," "Saturday Night Live") and Mike and Julie Scully (THE SIMPSONS, "The Carmichael Show"), all of whom are co-creators and executive producers on the series. Written by Mike and Julie Scully, DUNCANVILLE will feature the voices of Poehler, who will star as two characters, Emmy Award nominee Rashida Jones ("Parks and Recreation," "Angie Tribeca") and Golden Globe nominee Wiz Khalifa ("American Dad!," "BoJack Horseman"). Thirteen episodes have been ordered, and the series is set to premiere during the 2019-2020 season.

The series centers on the life of Duncan, a spectacularly average 15-year-old boy, his family and friends. Poehler will provide the voice of Duncan and his high-strung mom, Annie, who is constantly trying to prevent her son from ruining his life.

"DUNCANVILLE is one of the freshest animated concepts we've seen, and has an insane pedigree of comedic talent across the board," said Michael Thorn, President, Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company. "We've enjoyed a long, incredible run with Mike and Julie, and everything Amy does is pure genius. Having the voice talents of Rashida and Wiz join her makes this show the complete package. I can't wait to have them all together when we add DUNCANVILLE to our growing animated slate."

Produced by 20th Century Fox Television and Universal Television, DUNCANVILLE was co-created by Mike and Julie Scully and Amy Poehler, through her Paper Kite Productions, who executive-produce with Dave Becky of 3 Arts Entertainment.

Hmm...interesting that Amy Poehler already co-created a cartoon for Nickelodeon with SB/FOP Writers 10 years ago (after having a guest star role in SpongeBob's Where's Gary special) and now she's also creating another cartoon, this time on FOX with Simpsons writers (she guest starred on the show twice, in two of those future episodes whom Bart was married to).

I feel like in the past few years Fox has ordered several animated series with prominent people behind it that will never actually see the light of day.

The only "zero-hit wonder" I can think of is Murder Police, although I think Bordertown did have a delay of at least one season before it finally aired.

They haven't ordered any in a long time, but many more projects end up in development hell. At least there are orders this time.

You're BoJack Horseman, no cure for that.

This month, FOX revealed their first look at Bless the Harts and the art style is sort of a red flag right now: https://twitter.com/SpoilerTV/status...79710686920705

I haven’t found any info from Variety, Deadline, Hollywood Insider, etc. but you can see the show’s Twitter account during Comic Con’s panel here: https://mobile.twitter.com/BlessTheHarts

I think we should change this thread to the Bless the Harts general discussion/upcoming episode.

The show is already ordered for a 2nd season, making it the first new FOX cartoon to achieve this since Bob’s Burgers in 2011. Let’s hope Duncanville and Great North achieve this and we soon we’ll have a real new era of Animation Domination.

That's not just a "shout out." Show creator Emily Spivey has said that the two shows are "in the same universe."

There has been no talk of a crossover of any sort, but if the KOTH cast can appear on The Simpsons, anything can happen.

King of the Hill main actor Stephen Root guest starred as Rick Ocean in last week's episode.

The show's taking a couple of hits to its schedule; both the 12/1 and 12/8 dates are pre-empted (by Ice Age: a Mammoth Christmas and the Miss Universe pageant, respectively).

There may not be enough time to air all 13 first season episodes before Duncanville premieres in mid-February - especially if Fox airs the "late" NFL Division Round game on 1/12.

There's 5 TBA slots, most likely will fit episodes 9-13.

I'm glad that it's getting a second season. It's refreshing to see a family show that isn't like the other animated shows on Fox. For starters, it's more grounded (Bobs' Burgers comes in second) and the women on the show are treated right and not like crap. Everybody gets equal time and also the mother is single but she is smart and has a personality. Plus she has a boyfriend who does his best to make her and her mother and daughter happy. You see, this isn't a traditional family like The Simpsons, Bob's Burgers and Family Guy. There are single mothers and fathers and there so many other differant types of families that need to be explored. I'm glad Fox has this on the air.

I like it too. It's refreshing that the family like each other (violet drawing for Wayne was really sweet) and I find myself laughing at the rivalry between Betty and Crystal Lynn.

The listed TBA slots include 12/22, which is not when Fox usually airs new episodes of shows, and 1/12, which will either be pre-empted for an NFC playoff game or have an AFC playoff game on CBS on against it, and in the past, Fox has not aired new episodes against playoff games on CBS.

The episode airings could change however. We will have to see.

Why, yes. Yes, they can. My gut says they're going to pre-empt The Simpsons one night so they can air back-to-back new episodes; they have done this in the past to air Bob's Burgers episodes back when Fox had a backlog of episodes because of the 7:30 time slot.
