Rate & Review: Bordertown - Viva Coyote [END OF THE SHOW]

Get hyped for the season and series finale of a mediocre show.

This time not only Bud but also Pablo Barracuda try to catch El Coyote, for their own personal reasons.

Saw this via a stream leak from Fox's screening site. 1/5 for not ending sooner.

This show, knowing what kind of lows it hit, makes me wonder even further why Fox considered Murder Police so godawful they had to cancel it after they already made all 13 episodes, animated and everything.

It may have something to do with the fact that Bordertown has Seth MacFarlane's name on it somewhere and Murder Police did not.

Perhaps they didn't want another Allen Gregory, considering it was the same producer, David Goodman.

Just watched this episode yesterday. I had never watched this show before, but it seemed pretty mediocre. Some mildly funny bits, but nothing completely outstanding. 3/5

I still think people judged this too quickly and too harsh. I agree it wasn't that good. The bad stuff was the animation, the terrible fourth wall jokes which takes away any sense of reality and emotion (The Buckwalds have moved and changed name tons of times???). And both Buds and Ernestos families were so ugly and pointless. Like, I know having them be single wouldn't work with the concept of the show, but imo if they just existed and never spoke I'd like the show a lot more. Just have it revolve around Bud, Ernesto, Coyote and the drug lord. As for the characters designs, I actually really liked the look and voice of both Bud and Ernesto.

This was the best episode of the series though. But again, pointless family is pointless and I knew absolutely nothing about Louise... well rip the show.

Okay, last one... here we go.

    Good
    Cold open
Sanford calling out J.C. for clapping for himself under the table
"Can I eat one pancake without you hittin' on your mom?"
    Beheadsman
Pepito mocking Ruiz ("I'm Ruiz! My girlfriend lives in a computer and has a penis!")
"Ruiz is the most Mexican guy I know. He doesn't have a job, takes siestas all day and he speaks very limited English... wait, I'M the most Mexican guy I know!"
Ruiz mixing up Cesar Chavez with Ceaser Millan.
Bud imagining what his life would be like if he got fired.
Bryce explaining why unemployment isn't that bad.
    The Saddam Hussein gag
The back and forth about the taco between Bud and Ernesto.
Pepito remarking that Ruiz was dressed like a Mexican Woody
"Mexico sounds like a wonderful place. Why did we leave? Oh, right, EVERYTHING!"
Ernesto's whole story about his childhood, how he and Maria met and how they came to the US.
Sanford's head stuck in the beehive and Bud apologising for disturbing him while he's "Doing science".
The rest of America celebrating Pablo for getting rid of Florida.
The trap door stolen from Willy Wonka
    Easy way/Hard Way gag
"What the Hell is that? A box with a stick and a taco under it?"/"Yeah, but that's like saying a computer is just a box with a genie inside of it".
    The "Bud caught him!" reactions.
Sanford saying "I'm glad the show brought back the Bud character. He's an idiot" while watching the news.
    The Nerd trap
    The second Beheadsman
Ernesto singing as he came home from work.
Bud reading YouTube comments about himself.
Ernesto being so nervous that he said "Hello" instead of "Hola" to Bud.
"I would never hurt my wife"/"Well, that's not the rumor I started".
Steve leaving to get a signed Man Show DVD from Adam Carolla.
    The community theatre gag.
"I shall write a movie about your great deed and call it Ernesto Goes to Jail".
"HEY YOU! STOP! I AM ALMOST THE POLICE!"
"Hey Sanford! Your dad's chasing me!"/"SPEAK UP! I'M IN A MOVIE THEATRE!"
"All right calves, this is the day you become bulls"
"If I don't make it, tell my story as a porno!"
"Ugh, of all the days to wear my Just Shoot Me! t-shirt!"
"Ruiz, I'm gonna tell you the same thing I told my ex-wife. You get $600 and you shut up about the fact that I shot you".
"I can't believe you picked me up. How do you know I'm not a murderer?"/"Well, that would be a pretty big coincidence. Two murderers in one car?".
"Buckwald is best known for tying in a debate with a horse".
The Department of Homeland Security adopt Bud's idea of propping up a box with a taco under it as a way of catching Mexicans trying to sneak past the border.

    Bad
    Bud's inverted dick
    Ernesto's dad spanking him
    The Benny Hill chase
The blonde, white woman with the stereotypically sassy black woman's voice
    Pablo Barracuda cannibalising Daniel Radcliffe

Well holy shit, they actually managed to end on a high note (By their own horrendous standards admittedly, but still). The plot was great, flowed well, characters were used pretty effectively, and the good outweighed whatever bad there was by a significantly large margin. Felt like a decent season finale too even if the "Santa Ana Winds" episode was clearly designed to be the last one. RIP Bordertown. Thanks for giving us this adorable image of baby Ernesto on your final outing.

I'm finally fucking done. I've watched the entire series!

By a good show's standards, this is a pretty weak finale. But by a bad show's standards... it's still weak, but tolerable.
I didn't think this episode was great. Or good either. Like almost every episode of the show, it was very forgettable. But I'll admit there were some funny parts and that it had a good concept. For once the plot is decent enough and doesn't consist of Bud's screaming all the time. Ernesto gets an important role as well, and Pablo Barracuda (But who cares, he's a crap character). I thought the joke with Ernesto asking Bud about the taco which he doesn't understand was set as a trap, was really funny. Felt like something that would fit perfectly into Family Guy. I so dearly wish this show had more of that cute interaction humor, since it then could have been all right.
Something I took note of were the music choices. Near the end, it was actually pretty good. I otherwise hate the music they use bar the theme song, since it's bland and obnoxiously sitcommy. But in the chase scene, they put some effort into it, and it was cool listening to.
Most interesting was Ernesto's side of the plot, since he's the one risking capilatizing the friendship this time, not Bud. Although this instance is a justifiable reason. Although when it comes to his son, there was something kinda stupid about it. He wanted to become a Mexican man to impress a girl at a café, but we never see her again and so we almost forgot why he's doing this. There's even a joke where he forgot himself.
There are some failed jokes, and the brief appearance of Pepito felt worthless. Just like his character in general. Why do they even have him? He's not even remotely funny, and after the first few episodes, the writers almost seemed to drop him too. It's almost even worse than with Meg in Family Guy (Who sadly is fading more and more into the background). On the other hand, I can't even remember whether Becky appeared or not, or if Gert did either. And due to that, I can't give this a failing rating.
6.5/10 seems fair, since for one of the few times, there were actually some ounces of creativity.

    Goodbye, Bordertown.

    Wow, finally done.

Question, did you REALLY feel that way or were you grading on a curve?
You're a dolt with the IQ of a peabrain that probably loves lowbrow sitcoms like The Big Bang Theory, Frasier and Seinfeld to not grasp the biting satire and wit of the classic 65 (Rugrats).

I'm not grading on a curve, this is simply my raw and honest feelings about this episode. 6.5 is one of the best ratings I've given an episode of this show, which almost makes me laugh just saying it.
For a series finale, they could have done worse. And it was slightly better than the last episode produced (Santa Ana Winds), since it actually made goddamn sense.

What I meant is that if I give a series finale of a show I actually like or even love 6.5, I didn't hate it but I was pretty disappointed. If I would've given Oz's finale, my all-time favorite show, an 6.5... it would've been the worst episode of the series, since all the episodes I rated are between 8-10!

Bordertown on the other hand was never good, so 6.5 is more than I usually expect. Which means = not half-bad.

Why did you feel the need to watch it if you don't like it? You even expressed "Only one episode left!".

There were so few episodes left anyway, so I thought "Hey, might as well watch all of them so I know what to rate the whole show!".

The show wasn't really as atrocious as most people say, tbh. Yes some character designs were ugly (Despite being exaggerated, I think both Bud and Ernesto look good), and the constant fucking fourth wall jokes were annoying. Also, some characters were really pointless and uninteresting like Gert, or Janet. Aside from that though, it was pretty decent. I would have probably loved it if it focused mostly on Bud and Ernesto and the rest were just in the background.

I didn't think it was a terrible show, but it was too poorly executed to become anything above mediocre. Too many annoying and pointless characters, too bland plots and too bad animation. And Janice was severely underdeveloped in the whole run.

Is the show as racist as the premise makes it sound?

Considering Bud, who is a huge bigot, is always portrayed in a negative light... I'd say it's the complete opposite to racist. In fact, some assholes are even pissed and call it "pro-illegal" in terms of immigration.

It's part of the MacFarlanean style of comedy. But they were in general much more positively portrayed than the whites in this show.

Jesus, am I really talking this deeply about fucking Bordertown? I'm crazy.
