I think the nick Doug, like comeau said, had more quirkier moments than the somewhat vanilla, preachy and at times cutesy Disney version. there was a lot of more traditional school plot lines, stuff about tolerance, relationship crap and a 22-minute (as opposed to 11 minute) runtime, which often resulted in the morals coming off more hamfisted. the other thing I remember was a contest to name Doug's baby brother (I think?) and he was granted the name Dirtbike. Not sure if that was the staff intentionally picking out the oddest name but eh?

I'd be hard-pressed not to say Nick Doug's appeal for me is mostly nostalgia because, well it is. I definitely think the Disney version made some differences/changes for the worse, but the two are not really much far apart quality wise, especially how some may make you think.

If the do bring back some old shows, I'd love Nick to go the effort of cleaning up those early Nicktoons episodes as the last time I saw them (I don't have cable anymore maybe they don't even show them I could only find hours of SpongeBob last time I viewed Nick) the prints were awful!
So this is what it feels like When Doves Cry!

I didn't watch any of the Disney Doug outside of the movie but I remember the biggest change that had people upset was that Roger became a millionaire because the fact that the bully was originally poor and lived in a trailer made Disney uncomfortable.

I rewatched a couple disney dougs and I don't think it's that bad. Yes there's an episode where patti has an eating disorder that actually ends with a hotline number, but overall the show goes for this broader, slightly hipper (in terms of pop culture savvy) style of comedy that sometimes works but doesn't quite feel doug-y. Nickelodeon doug was corny as hell, they should have embraced the corn

I don't think you know what corny means.

do you know what "opinion" means?

Other way around. Disney made it ridiculous and unrealistic. They turned it into a Scooby-Doo/Inspector Gadget sort of thing. Silly cartoon chase sequences, buffoonery, etc. In that episode where Doug and Skeeter cut class, they spend more than half the episode running from Mr. Bone in absurd chase sequences that involve hiding in plain sight and Mr. Bone eventually chasing them in a helicopter and crashing.

They're completely different shows stylistically. If they changed the character names and did completely different designs, you'd never think to compare the two shows. The writers clearly had no plan/ideas for the Disney version, or if they did, they were forced to do something else by the network.

EDIT: Forgot to mention the whole "monster" thing. Suddenly, monsters are real, after the parameters of the Doug universe had already long been established and there was no such thing.

If I say a glass of water is "salty" and there's no salt in it then I don't know what "salty" means.

^there's a hell of a difference between that and what jamie posted. he said he found it corny as hell, apparently you don't agree with him. holy shit, opinions!

a more apt comparison would be you saying that the glass of water tastes weird, and me saying it doesn't taste weird at all. different interpretations, aka opinions!

edit: wtf roger's voice is softened up after the pilot and he sounds too much like doug now. smfh
When you refer to the pilot, were you referring to "Doug Can't Dance?" Because despite the order, that was actually an extended version of the test pilot. They made "Doug Bags a Neematoad" after the show got picked up.

also i remember being weirded out by this sneak peak of recess with the totally different character designs(at about 6 minutes in)

i don't believe this showed up anywhere else but the vhs intro to that mediocre live action 101 dalmatians movie.

(as an aside i fucking loathe that 101 dalmatians cartoon, always have)
