Finally watched the two-part finale the other day and I certainly liked it a lot; it was a pretty good and solid end to the third season, but it did have it's issues and might be the weakest of the show's season finales thus far (Just a heads-up for a long post below, in which I've spoiler-tagged the biggest moments).

While I liked where the plot went and how it played it out (with Star going to brink Moon back from the magic realm while Marco tries to stop Meteora with the help of some friends and allies) I think that it did have a bit of needless filler (like why reintroduce Lavabo if you're just gonna throw him out?) and stuff that went on for a bit long (such as Star and Moon messing around, some pointless melodrama that got in the way (like the Kelly & Tad scene which didn't add anything) & some other things that felt like a waste or lazy (such as  the magic realm's lead unicorn showing up and teleporting Star and Moon away  which felt like an easy solution to something that felt like they had written themselves into a corner with).

Something else I think was a problem was how they tried hard to be goofy and jokey when the whole situation was so intense and dire and so few of the jokes were actually that funny; it actually kinda defused a lot of the dramatic moments. They have shown that they can work in humor in the darker moments but they have shown restraint and here they should have done the latter. I also thought Star acted a bit callous and dumb in the first act, such as ordering Eclipsa to be locked away without even considering using her help (which could have avoided a lot of the problems which followed). I also can't believe  Mina  was Worfed off-screen; I'd rather have had a scene of her putting up a fight but eh, just a nitpick).

It did have a lot of things I did like, such as the Marco and Star scenes (while the part of her throwing all she had on him to test his fighting skills was a bit too long it was a nice bonding scene) and Tom admitting he sees Marco as his friend, steps up and tries to save him. The last ten minutes was the best part;  Star confronting Meteora and trying and stop the villain was an nice fight and I liked how she sacrificed her powers, though Eclipsa showing up, claiming Star's wand and uses it's power to defeat her daughter was easily the best part (a little disappointed they didn't have the guts to kill Meteora which would have been really poignantly sad, but I suppose she deserves a new chance) .

Star letting Eclipsa keep the wand and the powers was surprising and I liked how it ended with the latter, together with her baby daughter, flying off with her wand and seeks up her crystalized monster husband (I have been wondering if he's gonna be an actual, physical character on the series and it looks like we'll get to that). As for Glossaryck snapping out his "Globgor" state and revealing that it was an act was a twist, but this was stretching him being a troll; I get the revelation of his repeated word being a warning but why act like a dog for such a long time? (anyway, the in-joke about his voice swap was kinda funny; so I guess Keith David is the replacement actor now).

I'm satisfied with the finale and I think they have a good set-up for the next season, but I think they needed an extra episode to make this feel more complete and a little less rushed (especially towards the end) & more focused, dramatic writing (I think the tone they should have aimed for should have been like the one in 'Monster Bash' and 'Skooled!' and not have had so many jokes and quips, let alone any intrusive relationship drama), but even with the flaws it was nice.

@CousinMerl,  Regarding Glossaryck, I direct you back to what I said earlier about him being the worst character on the show after Pony Head because instead of trying to be the least bit helpful he has to go and overcomplicate the situation whilst being 100% useless in the process to the point where any and all instances of him being called out on his uselessness are warranted and justified. And also like I said earlier, I would've preferred that he'd just been kept dead now.

@John95, while I see your point about wishing  he hadn't been brought back to life  and don't consider him one of my favorite characters, I don't really dislike him per se and think he's been a fairly amusing, wierd supporting character throughout the series (and though his portrayal in season 3 was very one note, it was kinda funny in a way and I wonder what kind of role he'll play in the next season). Evem with the twist being sort of a stretch and him not making things any easier he's got a long way to go before he gets on the same level as Ponyhead to me.

By the way, do you agree or disagree with any of my opinions on the season finale?

@CousinMerl, Yes, I agree with you on the following:

     * The tone being all over the place in regards to the humor feeling forced in some spots.
    * What was the point of the scene with Kelly & Tad? Could they not think of a better way to distract her long enough to get her soul sucked out?
    * The Deus Ex Machina of the lead unicorn returning Star & Moon back to the real realm because "You don't belong here" was very cheap and lazy and does indeed feel like they backed themselves into a corner thanks to them wasting too much time on them being there.
    * The final fight being pretty epic.
    * As I said earlier, the whole thing with Eclipsa getting to keep her child and be reunited with her husband was the only one of the three "Have your cake and eat it too" moments of the last few minutes that I didn't mind.

I have spoiled myself watching this show the way I did, binging pretty much all three seasons right up to the point of the last 4 episodes. Now I gotta adjust to actually waiting a significant amount of time to find out what happens next.
    How to remaster

Just gonna add my two cents on Season 3 as a whole:

It was really quite good and enjoyable, if kinda uneven after The Battle For Mewni with a few too many filler-esque episodes & too big of a focus on the shipping and assorted melodrama that didn't really add anything to the story and felt kinda useless. Still, despite the lesser stuff and it's issues it was still an entertaining ride with several great moments and episodes & the season ended on a great note, though I'm unsure if I like it more than S2 (which seemed to handle most things better and also had the fortune to also have an interesting storyline about Ludo, who was neglected this time around). Looking forward to the fourth season and hoping it will improve on the things that didn't work here.

Favorite episodes are Toffee, the sleep-portalling trilogy (Sweet Dreams, Night Life & Deep Dive Divide), Monster Bash, Total Eclipsa The Moon, Ludo Where Art Thou?, Skooled!, Tough Love & Conquer.

Least favorites are Trial By Squire, Ponymonium, Bogbeast Of Boggabah & Bam Ui Pati! (that last one might actually be my bottom episode of the series, maybe even over All Belts Are Off; what a misfire).

Worst episode of the show IMO is still the one where they're on the party bus and spend multiple minutes just throwing up everywhere. Riveting stuff, that one.

@Traviud, Nah, I'd have to go with @CousinMerl and say that Bam Ui Pati! is easily worse because at least the one you mentioned isn't 11 minutes of showcasing the show's worst recurring character and everything that makes her such.

The 'Party Bus' episode wasn't that good (and Marco being immensly car sick when he's shown to ride in cars just fine other times was pretty dumb) but it was pretty meh/ok as a whole. I still stand by 'Bam Ui Pati!' and 'All Belts Are Off' being the worst thus far as they are both centered around a horribly unlikeable character acting shitty, getting away with it and learning nothing.

@CousinMerl, At least All Belts Are Off doesn't force you to sympathize with and feel sorry for said shitty character.

@John95, to be a little fair, 'Bam Ui Pati!' doesn't really force you to either, but it doesn't have any of the other characters acknowledge how awful that one character is behaving so that does make it the worse one.

Got a chance to rewatch the finale and I just have to bring up that scene with Kelly & Tad again; what were they thinking?

It felt so really pointless, forced and cringeworthy & went on for 2-3 minutes while the action was taking place, actually taking me out of the episode for a while. It also made me really dislike Tad; up to this point he has been a clingy but otherwise fairly likeable minor character, but here they turned him into a drama queen douchebag who acts and looks like an idiot (I actually didn't think they would manage to do something like making me dislike a formerly decent character with a single scene but they succeeded).

@CousinMerl, As I already said, it seems to exist for no reason other than to distract Kelly long enough to have her soul sucked out of her but... Really, THAT was the best they could come up with?!

That, and also possibly to temporarily (and lazily) dodge the problem of her feelings for Marco which have been jeopardized thanks to Photo Booth.

I've only watched the first few episodes, but I fell in love with it basically immediately. Avoiding reading through the thread since I'm not very far in yet and I don't want spoilers. I just wanted to express my delight.

I got really into it early on too. It's not that much was happening from the start, but Star is such a fun and magnetic character and the show's animation and sense of humor is so on point that it works no matter what.

I took a liking to it quite early on as well. It's a bit repetitive from the start, the pacing is rocky and most of the stories aren't all that strong, but it gets better as it goes on and by the end of the first season it was really quite good, with the second season being a big improvement.

I first got into the show back when it first aired full time on Disney Channel which would've been in June 2015. Mewberty was the first big turning point of the series for me.

That was the first episode that really stood out to me. First great one, I'd say.

A big part of what made me enjoy it right away is the characters. I definitely connect with Star and Marco in a way that I don't with characters from other shows.

Looking at that clip from the start of the show again I must say that the animation really improved; during it's beginning (and for a more part of the first season, I belive) it had that kinda jarring, jerky and cheap-looking flash animation which I'm glad it got past and adopted a more fluid and natural style for the character movements.

So the show is apparently ending with season 4, maybe.

It's removed. It worked fine when I posted it; how typical. Anyway, in short, it was apparently by someone on the Star Vs. crew saying that production was winding down and she was gonna move on to a new show or something; as for the reason for the tweet deletion wonder if the show ending is true and they don't want it to come out yet or if she was making things up.

Edit: Found a screenshot of the tweet:

So according to the panel at Comic-Con yesterday, Season 4 won't start until sometime next year...

It's been pretty quiet during the last few months but here's a peek at the fourth season (which will presumably be the last):

To be honest I think I like this Ponyhead better than the original.

@CousinMerl,  In only a mere five seconds, that Ponyhead puppet was more humorous than the real Ponyhead ever was over three seasons.

So it's been 10 months (!) since season 3 ended and still no confirmation when season 4 will begin. Kinda miss seeing new episodes by now. Has there been any words on when it will return? Am hopeful for late January/early February.
