could somebody please explain to me why smells like teen spirit is so bad compared to the rest of nirvana's output? sure, it isn't their best song, but i don't see how you can think it's bad unless you just hate nirvana in general.

They just have better songs than that. OK, maybe it isn't as abysmal as I said it was. It is by no means a bad song, but compared to their other stuff, it's a little weak.

-While he wasn't the best song writer, Ringo is my favorite Beatle. I prefer his solo stuff over Paul McCartney's although I think John was the best song writer.
-I think the Gin Blossoms are a good band
-Everything after Eminem's Marshal Mathers LP sucks with the exception of Lose Yourself

It's not. Smells like Teen Spirit is a classic, but overplayed and the most popular. So naturally, there will be detractors.

Agreed, I love that album. Not many people I know like them or they dismiss them as another 90s band

Pops, I'm not sure how you managed to narrow down GD's discography to 13, but I'd love to see the list

American Idiot shouldn't of been released as a single, and should've stayed as part of the rock opera alone.
I think the entirety of their discography until some of 21st Century Breakdown ranges from good to amazing.

Even a classic music buff like me can admit that the 70's and 80's did have some shitty songs.
i agree that the vocal version kinda sucks, but the instrumental version is amazing. instead of the boring chorus in the vocal version, the chorus kicks in huge on the instrumental. great track. the whole "Youthquake" album is kinda boring though, only a few decent tracks. D.J. Hit That Button is the only track to even remotely come close to the intensity of You Spin...

the real album to look for by Dead or Alive is "Nude" from 88. constant up-tempo pop the whole time, really great stuff. no one cared about the record except the japanese, which seems to be a common occurrence for Hi-NRG stuff. the japanese always knew what great pop was. actually i think the rest of their albums only came out in japan. hell "Fan the Flame" from 90 is pretty great too. great band.

    Here's another unpopular one:

I hate HATE (dislike, loathe, despise, abhor, detest, etc.) 'Uptown Funk'.

    (oh and also Bruno Mars).

can't say i hate it, since it's literally a bunch of rehashed sounds and hooks that were used a ton in the 70s/80s. zero originality, but i mean i liked it then so why wouldn't i like the same sounds now. my problem with it is the atrocious lyrics and horrible vocals, making it unlistenable for me.

I was perplexed as to why people have such a massive boner for that bland, tired, generic (featuring Bruno Mars to add to it all) song. Then I saw the American iTunes top 10 and I understood.

    Anyway.....

Here's another unpopular opinion: the fact that people are starting to take Taylor Swift seriously scares me a bit (Ok, a lot).

as a naysayer of swift's music up until very late 2014 and someone who definitely thinks 1989 is the second most overrated record of 2014, her music is absolutely getting better and she's probably one of the best artists in mainstream pop currently.

and no, i'm not sayin that in a "garbage better than other garbage" manner. i like pop, i'm not better than it and i don't pretend to be. honestly pop in 2015 has been kinda great so far, even the most recent jason derulo and calvin harris tunes have been solid amd the new carly rae jepsen is pure joy.

Oh lawd, seconded on that Carly Rae Jepsen single. "All That" is bringing all kinds of 80s goodness, such a great song.

and that's a definite nope on Swift's music. At least she stopped pretending to be country though.

Ugh, that new Carly Rae Jepsen song is so annoying. I'll admit that the music video is funny, but this is just like Gangnam Style where without the music video the song is nothing. The song is like a mine drill piercing through my ears and it's so painfully generic and I think it's safe to say that I think Call Me Maybe is better than this and that song is godawful too. While I'm not a fan of Taylor Swift's work as her songs are pretty generic too, they're harmless for the most part.

Also I don't know how popular of an opinion this is on here, but Elastic Heart is probably one of the best mainstream pop songs to come out in quite some time and I think it's better than Uptown Funk.

Anything is better than 'Uptown Funk'. Even Taylor Swift.

Sia is....OK? but she slurs her words as much as Ariana Grande, so that's pretty annoying. They should team up to make a Chandelier sequel called Floor Lamp.

Another song that I find to be highly overrated is Eye of the Tiger. I used to love that song, but now I'm just not feeling it and I just think the song is average. It's just another one of those 80's cheesefests with nothing special about them.
