These are both among the worst episodes ever, and among the worst attempts at satire I have ever seen. However, Politically Inept, With Homer Simpson is my least favourite episode of the entire series, without question. The last time I tried to watch it (and second time over all), it annoyed me too much to get through it. One of the one or two episodes I never intend on seeing ever again. Hell, it would even be competition to the worst episodes of Family Guy.

I love Dancin' Homer. I admit the plot isn't that strong, but I love Season 2 and Dancin' Homer has a lot of charm coming from its age and how it was presented (with all the songs, lighting, etc). I can't really explain my affection for this episode (it's not nostalgia since I never watched this episode very much and it wasn't one of the first episodes I watched), but I still love it and find it very charming. Homer Defined is on the boring side for the classic era. It's a pretty underwhelming episode despite the near-meltdown, and I would have liked an episode that featured a near-meltdown so heavily to be more suspenseful (kind of like King Size Homer) or for that to be the primary focus of the episode (rather than a solid but not too exciting plot about Homer being a fraud).

"Dancin' Homer" is not too bad, but "Homer Defined" is slightly, slightly better.
My only grip with these episodes is that they suffer from slower pace than usual.

I agree, @Insanity Pepper, the animation of "Dancin' Homer" is beautiful. I think season 2 has some of the best animation of the whole series. (though season 4 gives it competition)

Dancin Homer is one of the worst classic episodes. Homer Defined is not particulary strong by classic standars either but i overall found it a lot funnier.

I don't like Dancin' Homer. It's like there's no plot. He just got the job but people didn't like him so the family returned to Springfield. The End.Currently re-watching all of the show, from Season 26 backwards. So far :
