Financial Panther

I want to know people's honest opinion of me.

I originally deleted this, but was persuaded to bring it back:

I asked this because I seem to be ridiculed more than I used to, and I'm not sure why. I don't feel like I'm posting any differently than I used to, but something must have changed. I would really like it if somebody could explain what they or others think of me so I could try to change anything seen as negative. Be as truthful as possible, and if you say something like bubsy did ("You're a pretentious dickbag"), I'd like to see some examples. This is solely so I can better myself, so I'd like some tips to know what can be done to achieve that.

Well, less than in my early days, but it seems to be a little more than the last year or two.

You're alright. :gatorshrug: It annoys me when you say that posting in the Simpsons section should be mandatory if people wanna board here, but otherwise you're harmless.

That was a joke. Did people take it seriously?

I like you. But you do indeed have some faults. I think the one thing I really dislike about you is the fact the you pretend like lots of shit. Fucking hell, you ''liked'' Simpsons: The Feminist Series. Stop that and no one will have a problem with you.

Pretend like? I can guarantee that I've almost never done that. If I give a post a thumbs-up, I agree with the post or find it funny.

People call me nave for believing things, but people always take me seriously when I'm joking around. That ain't fair.

your naivety is mostly adorable, sometimes annoying. you have a tendency to block out subjects that aren't of your immediate interest so you can be hard to chat with in a loose manner in tc, and worst of all you tend to pat pretty much every new member on the back alongside rem. if members have flaws and people point them out, they don't need to be defended. it isn't bullying, it's criticism. you've been doing that less recently tho so it's not currently a big issue. hopefully if things happen more naturally improvement will happen, as it did with pkkao when people backed off him and time just did it's thing. don't fan the flames, it won't end well, trust me.

otherwise, you're a good dude standing on your own. keep bein' panth.

Hm. Thanks for telling me. Could you elaborate on what you mean by "block out"? I mean, yeah, some subjects just don't interest me, like movies or music, but I'd think it would be natural for people not to care to talk about something that doesn't interest them. So could you just clear that up a little for me?

well you leave tc sessions sometimes when the subject shifts. i know some convos are hard to find a place in but it can't hurt to try and converse. the larger issue seems to be the rigidity and limit of your media tastes. you're watching futurama now so it shows you're trying new things which is great but often you seem not to have an open mind to new stuff. if can't hurt to give something new a try. it sucks to me that you don't care much for music since i love discussing but that in general i can accept because it isn't who you are. it isn't who alot of boarders are. maybe the idiosyncrasies of your personality are rooted in subjects that just don't align with alot of the matter that interests many users but it never hurts to have an open mind and check out something new. or at least don't leave because the chat isn't to your liking in any given moment, you never know where it'll shift after all.

I have been told by some people (mostly my parents) that I'm not very open-minded, and it's true; my interests are very limited. And when I'm on mobile, I often leave when it shifts to something I'm not interested in because I can't do anything else when I'm on the mobile TC. When I'm on the computer, I can just browse here while you guys talk about music or whatever.

    you're pretty good

but you can stop bein' so hostile towards FILMS and stuff (ew movies!!!) and if you want the peanut gallery to ease up on you, don't post about how you once drank piss and how you used to have shit sucked out of your ass

but then again this advice is coming from me so you can take it with a grain of salt
  15. Financial Panther's Avatar
Yeah, I'll ease up on the movies.

And I'll admit I usually say that stuff for attention. I like attention (hell, my favorite notifications are mentions). But not all attention is good, I've learned. It seems that any references to piss and shit have dire consequences.

Hello @Financial Panther. Also dropped you a PM today; hope that's enough attention for you today.

I can't really say much about the constant defending of new members, because I've all but given up on trying to either criticize members that need it or defending members that get too much criticism. I guess the best advice I can give is if you're not going to stop trying to defend all these members, at least try to do it without looking down on people too much (no names, but we all know who you have "board rivalries" with). I've found boarding to be a much better experience when you're not looking down on anyone, whether it's the people you're trying to get to improve or the people you think are "bullies." Life's too short for cartoon messageboard rivalries. Spread the LOVE man

And yeah, @Financial Panther, you can't post something like "I have a poop fetish" for attention and get mad when others use it against you. Wasn't it in your board terms of agreement that anything you say can and will be used against you? You gotta read that stuff man. I'd UNFRIEND you next time you did this but you'd probably unfriend me first for saying something stupid - maybe two unfriends make a friend? I don't know where I'm going with this anymore so I'm gonna stop now.

I feel like I've done better at not defending some members (even though I want to at times). And I just didn't have the foresight to see that those things would be used against me. Pretty stupid in hindsight. Now I know better.

I co-sign on what everybody said here. Embrace more than brace against, and try to have a thicker skin. You aren't anywhere near as skittish as you once were, so you've improved. Just lessen the otherwise smug and almost petty attitude at times and you'll be golden.

I know you hate me and whatever and I dunno if that's just shtick or what but those are my two, honest cents

I think since you're still young, you need to keep living life more and bring that experience to the board. Sometimes it feels like you can't fully relate to people, like when that whole copy editor discussion went down in TC. But that comes with time.
I like when you try new things, like watching Futurama, reading Stephen King or voting in the Music Showdown. Surely you're noticing that your interests can expand and are enjoying it yourself. Only when you expose yourself to a lot of different things you'll find the music you like, instead of having the narrow 'I don't like any music' view teenagers sometimes have. And opening yourself up to these things has given you good attention here, right?
