As I said in my last installment the Scully Era has often been criticized as being too gag heavy. I really can't disagree with this observation as all of these episodes are very gag heavy. But I should point out that I DO find much to laugh at in these episodes; many of these gags actually work for me. The trade off of course is the stories themselves are neither original nor memorable, but I think this is forgivable if the episode manages to have consistent laughs that stand the test of time. For the most part these episodes contain such jokes. I should also say though that I find certain aspects of several of the stories here appealing even if they aren't really original. With that said I'm not going to spend much more time on these episodes though because I would only be able to praise them by pointing out specific jokes I liked. I know I do this in all my reviews but I think it would stand out more here because of the shortcomings of the stories themselves. But, I'll still say something about each episode:

I like the idea of Homer finding someone he can idolize and try to imitate in The Wizard of Evergreen Terrace. I also like it coming from Homer having a mid-life crisis, though again neither of these things are really original. Still what makes me rank this one highest of this set is both a refreshingly fast pace, which I think you can get away with easier in gag heavy episodes, and multiple funny gags. Highlights include the entire second act and Homer's dream vision of his funeral. I also enjoyed seeing Marge let loose in Screaming Yellow Honkers and the entire end running gag with NBC is fantastic. Aside from that it just remains one of the more memorable episodes from this year. Tokyo is a typical vacation episode but many of the jokes throughout hit leaving it as a genuinely enjoyable experience. It is also helped out in the memorability department by just how mediocre to bad many future vacation episodes are.

Simpsons Bible Stories, again, has many funny gags, but the story is not really a problem here as the basic outlines have already been written. I realize they parody those outlines but they still use them. And like Tokyo it too is aided in memorability by a multitude of inferior episodes of its type. Though my opinion on several of those may actually change when I eventually rewatch them, for better or worse. I love the B plot of "C" Student, even if Homer is borderline obnoxious to some. Plus I have some personal experience regarding the A Story. It is a tad lighter on laughs than all the episodes that came before it though, but gets bonus points for merging the two plots particularly well. And Sunday, Cruddy Sunday is just behind it thanks to solid and actually appropriate guest performances, again many funny jokes, and a wonderful Vincent Price impersonation. This is one of those other few episodes I can actually remember watching either the night it aired or sometime quickly after.

So yeah, we're not even halfway through the season yet, but I'm already done with all the above average episodes. That's not a good sign and as you'll see the remaining episodes are plagued by typical Scully problems. Some are just gag fests that aren't that funny. It is rather telling of the era as a whole though that even the episodes I included here would probably not touch a top 200 episodes list, probably.

Good part 2 oh, that's raspberry! Out of these six episodes that you've ranked I really enjoy three of them:
    - The Wizard of Evergreen Terrace
    - Marge Simpson in: "Screaming Yellow Honkers"
    - Sunday, Cruddy Sunday

The other episodes are a little less enjoyable for me. I'd probably go with "Thirty Minutes Over Tokyo" in fourth place.
I'm waiting impatiently for Parts 3 and 4 of Season 10! Keep up this amazing work and this incredible project! What Season will you be doing next? Maybe you'll want to take a bit of a break? Let me know.
