Oh, that's raspberry!

My Simpsons Ultimate Episode Ratings and Rankings: Season 15, Part 4 (Conclusion)

Rate this Entry
19.The Regina Monologue - 3/5
20.Diatribe of a Mad Housewife - 2.5/5
21.My Big Fat Geek Wedding - 2.5/5
22.Bart-Mangled Banner - 1.5/5

The bottom four, and here at last we see a steep and sudden drop in quality. The Regina Monologue manages to get a 3/5, which according to my grading scale is average. Anything below this is at least below average. And to be below average in the post-classic era is almost unforgivable. It basically guarantees the episode is not worth watching ever again, except maybe once a few years or to hear the audio commentary when it comes out. As a vacation episode, which is what it is, The Regina Monologue is the very definition of average, its alright but nothing special. It is noticeably better than say Simpsons Safari or Greatest Story Ever D'ohed, both atrocious episodes, but it comes no where close to being as good as Bart vs. Australia or even Thirty Minutes Over Tokyo. The best part of The Regina Monologue is the opening act in Springfield with the $1000 bill, again not a good sign for a vacation episode. The best joke while in England is Homer's supposed sister...which happens at the very end. The rest is jammed with common Simpsons problems like too many guest stars and a Homer which too often resembles his Jerk-ass form. What can I say about the episode? Meh.

Diatribe of a Mad Housewife isn't a terrible episode, but it is probably the biggest example of Jerk-ass Homer this season, and gives an Ambulance Driver Job that fails to be really funny. Aside from that, it eventually morphs into yet another Homer and Marge marriage crisis episode. The only two things I can remember liking in it were Lisa's inner feelings and Flanders' line about evolution...assuming its in this episode I kinda forget. My Big Fat Geek Wedding manages to be an absolutely terrible Homer and Marge marriage crisis episode, but also destroys the relationship between Skinner and Edna K. Maybe in Season 23 Edna will get her lasting relationship but poor Skinner definitely got the shaft. Not much else to say about this one, I liked the song outside Edna's place and drunk Barney's imaginary rabbit but that's all.

Bart-Mangled Banner does not deserve some of the hate it gets, but it is still an example of even then dated and failed satire mixed with Scully-level wackiness plus an astounding ability to be boring and unmemorable all at the same time! The opening chase with Dr. Hibbert, while ridiculous, is at least entertaining. Still, its probably for the best if this episode remains ignored...

That's all for Season 15 so what are my final thought? As a whole it is a very good season of The Simpsons. It doesn't touch the classics but, like all the post-classic years with a larger number of good episodes than bad, probably doesn't get the recognition it deserves. If I had to give the season as a whole a grade it would probably be a solid 4/5.

Final Rankings:
1.'Tis the Fifteenth Season
2.The Way We Weren't
3.Simple Simpson
4.I, D'oh-Bot

I have decided that the next season I'm gonna re-watch will indeed be 16. I estimate it will take me a month to watch all the episodes, but maybe longer or shorter. I will not post a new blog entry until I have watched them all.

Otherwise, feel free to comment on my blog so far. How would you have ranked Season 15? Is this even worth doing? Aside from that I guess just thanks for reading!

Fantastic job Oh that's Raspberry!! I really enjoyed reading all four parts of your Season 15 Ultimate Episode Ratings and Rankings. What's great is that you really go into detail for every single episode in the Season and It gives me an excellent overall idea of how you approched this Season and appreciated it. I am waiting very impatiently for Season 16! Keep up the great work!
There would only be two episodes I would have moved in your standings: Diatribe of a Mad Housewife and The Regina Monologue. But that's only my opinion (everybody has different opinions ). In addition, you fully justified yourself on why you placed these two episodes at the bottom of the ranking.

Thanks Flanderoma I actually try not to go too in depth because I already do when I review each episode, but I guess I can't help it. You should be happy to learn that I will very likely blog Season 16 much earlier than I at first anticipated. I am already through two-thirds of the season in under 10 days. I now predict I might begin my blogging of it as early as the end of the week!

Thanks, that's great news! I saw that Season 16 is one of your favorite Post-Classic era Seasons too. I think I saw It in your signature (I hope I'm not mistaken in saying this)

No you are correct! Honestly as I've been going through it I'm finding it even better than I originally thought! If this keeps up I may actually prefer it to Season 9!!!! We'll see
