why do people like to argue?

let's be honest here, out of all the traits I have ever exhibited in my time on this board, one of my most pronounced is my eagerness to argue with people. have always liked to argue, I remember arguing with my little brother all the time as a kid, and I continue to this day as an adult to argue with people. once got into a several hour drunken debate with my former roommate over whether or not 9/11 was carried out by our government(hint: it wasn't).
so why, why do I, or anyone else, like to argue?
I'll tell you why I like to argue at least, can't speak for anyone else you know. simply, its because I like to think. thinking is fun, and as much as I like to think for myself I absolutely love making other people think as well. when you are in an argument naturally you believe you are right, but a good argument also should make you question those beliefs. that's why I argue, I like to question my own beliefs and I like to try and make others question their beliefs. I get into an argument with you and counter your points and hopefully when you are typing out a rebuttal to me you are starting to question what you believe in and why, hell maybe even have a google tab or two open researching your beloved beliefs. I sure do that a lot, and I love doing it.
because that is how people learn, and learning new things is awesome. think about it.
