What are your thoughts on the Mirkin era?

Rating: 3 votes, 2.00 average.
As we all know, David Mirkin's seasons sacrificed the emotional core of many earlier seasons to make room for more wacky antics. Scully did the same thing, but I think Mirkin did it better because he didn't change the characters' personalities as drastically as Scully did. Still, it was a massive shift from the seasons preceding it, and a I know quite a few people didn't like the change. Personally, Mirkin is my favorite showrunner, as his comedy-above-all approach really worked for me. What are your thoughts on this era of the show?

Mirkin is my favorite era of the show. He churned out what are by far the funniest episodes of the series, and if you can do that while not having to stoop to lowbrow jokes, you're a success. Oakley/Weinstein were able to put more emotion into the episodes, which Mirkin tended to de-emphasize, but unlike humor, emotion isn't required to have a great episode. It serves as a decent complement, but episodes can fabulous without any. Oakley/Weinstein were good, but Mirkin outshone them just a bit.

Seems pretty ridiculous to continue to keep me out of there at this point, but whatever. And you say I'm stubborn.

peyrin echoes my feelings exactly, though I have trouble choosing between Oakley/Weinstein and Mirkin. But I could be willing to admit that the show was at its peak during the Mirkin era.

Season 5 is one of my favorite seasons, hardly a bad episode in there (in fact I don't believe there's even one).

Peyrin was actually just copying a post I made about Mirkin in a thread last year.

Yeah Chris, I agree. There aren't any season 5 episodes I dislike. I'm not sure what my least favorite episode of the season would be. Maybe Lady Bouvier's Lover. But even that's not a bad episode. I actually think season 6 is even better than 5, though.

    What a cheeky bastard :P

My favorite seasons are usually ordered 7 > 6 > 5 > 8. So that makes it kind of hard to choose between the showrunners since their ranks average out to be the same.
