Yes! Another No Homers mention on commentary!

From Mike Scully on screaming Yellow Honkers.

He animated his whole family ;-/
At that scene he said "Take that No Homers!"

So is there any writer or producer who doesn't or hasnt atleast at one point read this forum?

I would embrace the criticism a little more and try to improve the show rather than simply discrediting all of it. I mean, even if the show is "good" - Healthy criticism is important. You just have to ignore the psychos with personal attacks..They will always be there. It seems like it really bothers him.

I'd like to see him do a secret commentary for the fans giving some info on how he got the job, what his plans were, and how well he felt they were accomplished. I'm not sure why an exec wouldn't want to do that.

It will prescribe for every one where they are to work, what they are to work at, where they may go and what they may say. Socialism is an attack on the right to breathe freely. No socialist system can be established without a political police. They would have to fall back on some form of Gestapo, no doubt very humanely directed in the first instance."

Well atleast now we know that Scully has looked at the forum once or twice, unless he's a member....

Anyway, that remark seems almost as badly presented as his Wikipedia entry. I don't really get what he's trying to prove to us.

I think it's funny.

And I don't know about all of you, but I probably wouldn't be all that eager to listen to and respect the opinions of people who do nothing but talk shit on me and my work.

I'd like a secret commentary track from him too, except that it seems that, unlike O&W, he didn't have much of an explicitly thought-out plan beyond trying to make the show funny. I suppose he could discuss what he feels is the most important aspect of the show, what he sees as being the ideal or proper characterization of the characters (namely Homer), etc. It would be great if we could arrange for a q&a with him like we had with O&W, where he'd answer selected questions on a commentary track. I think it would be important that our questions and concerns be carefully worded so as to not come off as outright antagonistic toward him personally. He'd never go for this idea if he were made to feel overly defensive, like he was standing trial or something.

I dont think it'd be too difficult to do. As long as questions were prescreened. Basically eliminating him from directly interacting with anyone. Thats basically a bad idea for any staff member unless they have a strong stomach.

But how is this sort of thing arranged? How did the O&W q&a sessions come about anyway? Did a mod contact them or did they contact a mod?

I can't listen to the commentaries because Scully's voice annoys me.

Nothing personal, Mike.

I can usually adapt to annoying voices after some time. Cohen's annoys the heck out of me. I can kinda get used to it, but I still struggle..

I don't think it's so much that Scully's voice annoys me, but I'm not used to it.

Cohen's voice has no effect on me because he's like the most awesome person ever

umm, i don't think you guys are looking at it in the right frame of mind. I don't think it's that these people are neccesarily reading this forum as much as it is an understood reference. Nohomers Club is understood to mean nerdy overly critical internet forum.

Someone mentioned that he thinks Scully has an annoying voice. Which begs the question: Which writer has the best voice on the comentaries?

I'd say Matt Groening, though he isn't a writer. His is the best because it's so recognizable.

Mike, it's fine you can animate your family into the show, I don't give a shit about that. I do question the ethics of hiring your brother and wife onto the show, who aren't really professional writers (but then, neither are you :silly but it doesn't bother me that much.
Besides it was a lawyer for the show that made a point of criticising you for this.

For some reason, I like Ken Keeler's voice best, followed by Josh Weinstein, followed by David Cohen.

My least favorite is Mirkin, simply because he screams all the time and I watch the commentaries while trying to fall asleep. I also think that Mirkin seems like a bit of a bully/taskmaster, as he tries to tightly control the other commentators.

Also, does anyone else think the season 10 commentaries are a bit sloppy? They aren't very focused, and they don't talk about the show very much, and instead spend a lot of time talking about personal things (which can be either interesting or awkward, i.e., Mark Kirkland's painful divorce).

Have to agree. If he pokes fun at us people read into it like he's pathetic. Meanwhile, half the forum harps on him day and night but, no, he's the stupid jerk.

At first when i saw the name of this thread i thought it would be a little self-congradulatory type thing. I didnt expect it to turn into a full blown Scully hate-fest.
