LETS, Gallery and S!S! used to be the sites for framegrabs. Unfortunately, they've all become dormant (or shut down in the case of S!S!).

hi guys. not sure if this is where the cool kids still hang out, but i figured i'd try here first.

anyone up for a link exchange with TU? i haven't been active in the community for a couple of years and i'm not all sure who's still around. i'm planning on getting the site up to par in the near future and could definitely stand to have some traffic. lemme know if you're down (PM or e-mail or whatever).

I need a host!

if anyone can help with hosting, it'd be appreciated, we're currently at onceuponatimeinspringfield.webs.com but i'm hoping it'll be a real, respected site, no-one respects a webs site so please, if you can, help.

You want the truth? You want the truth?! You can't handle the truth! Because when you reach over and put your hand into a pile of goo, that was your best friend's face, you'll know what to do! Forget it, Marge. It's Chinatown!" - Homer's rant.

i can't offer you hosting, but i can offer you advice. whatever you do, PLEASE shorten your web address, it is ridiculously long : )
oh, and you might need to actually build up some content before somebody offers you hosting, too.

we had a discussion a few weeks ago about why some sites go for domains like lardlad, milpool, duffgardens, etc.

this is exactly the reason - site names are way too long for domains. try and find a funny simpsons word or phrase to use, like "cromulent.com" (that one's already taken) - but still keep the site name, i like it.

and if you want it to be a respected site, webs.com or not, you need content. start making some great content on your webs thing then others will certainly help you out later on. or just shell out a few $$$ a month for cheap hosting.

might aswell drop this in here.
i'm starting to think about a christmas design for the springfield connection, and obviously the homepage is reliant on large (950px wide, at least) pictures. at christmas, this leaves me in a difficult situation because there are literally about 2 decent christmas-related pictures that i can use. so, i just thought i'd ask the question if anybody has anything that they've been keeping on their hard drive for some reason before i start thinking of other ideas : )

cheeeers, tsc update in a couple of days. drain will probably be going down for a day or two at the start of next week while i implement the new design and the new source, whoah.

Hello again peoples, long time since i've been on stupidly. Just a little question here: -

I, like many, would like a website about the simpsons (as well as some other stuff maybe). I don't want it to be a huge one with things you can see in any other place e.g. episode guides bla bla bla but just something I can work on when I have some free time.

The only place I can start it's at something like webs.com which I don't mind at all, at least it's a start and from then on I can start to build it up slowly. I've heeded all your advice concerning content so thats a major thing I'm thinking about BUT the problem is about the name...

I read all of your comments regarding Ahhgoobras and I'm trying to think of a simple title, not to long/short relating to the simpsons that won't be taken. I just think it would be better than something like 'SimpsonsFan' or some crapola like that. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

.

Probably better asking here: http://nohomers.net/showthread.php?t=41810

But you could check out the framegrabs from lardlad.com, springfieldspringfield.co.uk and duffzone.org to see if they have it.

EDIT: my bad, already answered...missed the subsequent page

Years ago, mentholmoose posted a PHP script that resized full sized images into nice looking thumbnails. However, I can't find his blog (where it was posted) and I deleted all of my pre-2008 files (a huuuge mistake.). Does anybody still have that script or can tell me where I can find it? Thanks.

Do you mean Easy Thumbnails? Not a script but a lightweight program, which does the job brilliantly.

I prefer doing all mine manually, since you get more control over how they look. For grabpics anyway.

If the images are all the same size (eg framegrabs) then an app is the way to go. Easy Thumbnails is good. I use ImageMagick since you can do a lot with it - resizing, converting, merging and more. It's a command-line program so may not be easy to use for some people.

I have this all-CSS site that I'm designing for a client, http://simptide.megabyet.net/clweb/, and it displays perfectly in Firefox 3, but IE 7 is all messed up. I tried the statement, but it still displays wrong. Specifically, these things are wrong:
- Topbar and Navigation do not display properly; should be 100% but are displaying differently
- The navigation should be displaying inline instead of on each line
- The breadcrumb should extend the length of the content background
- The content background should be centered
- The footer boxes should be uniformly aligned

I'm trying to learn as I go and hone my CSS skills, but cross-browser compatibility is not my strongpoint. Can anyone help?

You need to use a doctype, otherwise IE uses retarded mode (officially known as "quirks mode"). Try putting < !doctype html> at the top before < html>

EDIT: some weird crap with posting HTML. You need to remove the space between < and !doc...
