    I've found the formula!!

I've rewatched all episodes of Family Guy, and it took me some time, believe me. However, I've discovered what no one else could!

The formula for a successful season of Family Guy! Which is...

40% Peter acts whacky but then some bad stuff happens.

20% Quagmire being an angry unlikeable character who will stop at nothing to point out Brian's flaws.

10% Meg getting back at her family for stuff.

    20% Racist political ''humor''

    Over 9000% Cutaways

10% Brian and Stewie make some witty jokes about celebrities for an hour.

0% Good episodes with actual emotion

    Amazing, isn't it?

Well when the creator of the show publicly says he wanted to end it after 10 seasons but couldn't...you know sadly it's for the $$$.

Seth MacFarlane responded to South Park's criticism of the show by basically saying something like "Yeah, that's about right" (Regarding the formula of the episodes, not the manatees thing).
    Season 24: Moonshine River: C | Treehouse of Horror XXIII: B- | Adventures in Baby-Getting: B+ | Gone Abie Gone: C+ | Penny-Wiseguys: D+ | A Tree Grows in Springfield: C- | The Day the Earth Stood Cool: B+ | To Cur With Love: B+ | Homer Goes to Prep School: C | A Test Before Trying: B- | The Changing of the Guardian: C+ | Love is a Many-Splintered Thing: C | Hardly Kirk-ing: B- | Gorgeous Grampa: B+ | Black-Eyed, Please: B- | Dark Knight Court: B- | What Animated Women Want: C | Pulpit Friction: B- | Whiskey Business: C | The Fabulous Faker Boy: C | The Saga of Carl Carlson: B- | Dangers on a Train: B+

    Actually the current formula is...

25% Stewie and Brian plots (This can range from "Road to..." episodes to template sub-plots from 80's sitcoms)

5% Cleveland cameos (This is interchangeable with simple references to TCS or American dad)

10% Cutaway gags/Musical numbers (They seem to do them a lot less cutaways as of recent....or at least not as many in a single episode as they did before. As for the musical numbers they still pop up and are normally too long, but are just less frequent)

20% Jokes which are done in poor taste (This ranges from over the top violence to jokes about taboo subjects such as abortion, rape, murder and people with physical or mental disabilities)

10% plots dealing with secondary characters (In most cases these are focused on Joe or Quagmire)

10% plots and or screen time of any sort involving Chris or Meg

20% Peter doing wacky, nonsensical bullshit for the sake of it with some of Seth's political views sprinkled on top for good measure (Let's say for example, Peter decides go hunting with a rocket launcher. You can then have Brian launch into a rant about how crappy the laws on gun control are in the USA that someone as reckless Peter would even be allowed to own a standard firearm let alone a rocket launcher).

    Just be thankful

I've settled on American Dad for my emotion and character development.

Yeah, I don't really see why anyone cares about Family Guy having emotion. That's not what the show aims to do (except for once in a great while for some reason, like New Kidney in Town). But yeah, it's like being mad that King of the Hill doesn't have cutaways.

"There's a couple of things they don't teach you in Harvard Business School. One is how to cope with defeat; the other is how to handle a shotgun. I'm going to do both right now."

In general, I wouldn't consider this to be a good show, I have a real love/hate relationship with it. I think that most of the Stewie/Brian episodes are legitimately good, especially the "Road to..." episodes. Also, Adam West adds a lot to the show.

I can do without everything else.

Brian and Stewie are the only characters with any sort of personality and they have chemistry together, but they're still very predictable characters.

The rest are awful. No personality, lifeless morons.
