a really clever joke i don't think anyone's picked up on

in lard of the dance, nelson is discussing picking huckleberries with his classmates, but disguises the fact when skinner is around and puts on the tough guy facade. a few seasons earlier in bart on the road, nelson bullied bart into seeing andy williams when they were in branson. nelson was ecstatic when he played moon river. the song contains the lyric, my huckleberry friend, which refers to someone the song's author picked huckleberries with. nelson likes moon river because it has to do with a hobby of his, thus giving us a different side to his character. what other jokes that the writers may've not intended, but are still funny have you noticed on this same note?

Dang, that's a good question. I remember noticing one a while ago, but now for the life of me I can't remember what it was.

I can't think of any jokes that were either not picked up on or perhaps unintentional but good going with the Nelson/Huckleberries gag. I would never have picked up on that. Do you think the writers put this in deliberately?

The huckleberry line is/was one of Nancy Cartwright's favorites, so maybe there was more to it. I'm basing that on nothing I guess, but yeah, it's a good connection.

The actual connection to the "Moon River" lyric may just be coincidence, but they're both good jokes about Nelson having a nicer, dweebier side to him that is still a kid. I LOVE that whole scene in Branson, MO, and going to see Andy Williams.

"Aw, we don't need to see that."

    "YES WE DO!!"

Then cut to Nelson clasping his hands excitedly in the theater, everyone else bored out of their skulls...
