Even though the title of the other thread is "Simpsons Comics Thread", we use it to discuss Bongo's comics in general (even their non-Simpsons work like Sergio Aragones).![]()

I think Radioactive Man deserves his own thread, even though there is a general Bongo thread.
The RM series is really underrated. I'm actually surprised more people don't talk about it. I love the premise: jumping randomly from issue to issue, skipping huge gaps in the storyline only to be dropped into the next decade. The original series is the best, but I did like how series two featured more spin-offs like Superior Squad and the movie adaptation.
Really, the RM comics are on the same level as The Venture Bros. Lots of cool continuity taking place, great side characters.
Unlike other Bongo comics, RM is 1:1 with what its representing, if that makes sense. Like, Simpsons comics adapts the tv series and tells new stories, but isn't exactly canon to the tv show and never trumps the TV show in terms of character changes and reveals. Radioactive Man, however, exists as a comic on the TV show, so reading the RM comic is far more true to the character than what the Simpsons tv show depicts. In fact, the RM comics build on what the Simpsons tv show has created and greatly surpasses it. Given that RM comics, characters and storylines are given so little details in the show, the RM and Super Spectacular comics are the main source for anything you want to know about the character.
Three Men and a Comic Book was one of my favorite eps when I was a kid, so to actually read RM #1 was really cool.

Thanks for the short reply to my post. Care to actually back up your "Nah"?

It's cool if you disagree, but it's a bit rude to just type "nah." and pass it off as a worthwhile reply. I'd say as a comedic twist on the superhero genre, Radioactive Man stacks up against stuff like Venture Bros and The Tick.

A comic book adaption of a fictional comic set in the Simpsons universe reminiscent of 50s/60s/whatever superhero comics really couldn't have anything in common with a semi-superhero television show. If anything, the things that it is parodying could be.
Both VB and RM comics parody superhero and super spy comics and cartoons from the 50s/60s. Right there is a direct similarity. Captain Sunshine and a majority of the VB super villains are a lot like those found in the RM comics.
I find that both Dr. Venture and Claude Kane are depicted as failures. Venture is a grown up Jonny Quest-like character turned Dr. Quest-like character who is a less than great super scientist. Claude Kane is the butt of the joke in many cases. Gloria dislikes him, his dad is disappointed in him. Everybody assumes he is a stupid lazy layabout playboy millionaire, and he tells himself that he is simply playing that part to throw them off the scent of RM, but often that is simply who he is. RM himself is mostly heroic, but he is an idiot at times.
Stuff like Bug Boy's origin is a lot like the mysterious origin of Billy Quiz Boy, and both of these are spoofs of the child genius trope found in old comics.
Purple Heart's turn to Bleeding Heart for political reasons is a sort of gag I could see VB doing.
The fact that Claude needs to wear a hat at all times to cover the shrapnel in his head is another sort of gag I could see VB doing.
So yeah, when I say that RM is on the same level of VB, it may be a matter of opinion in terms of depth or writing. But it's pretty much a fact that both properties parody the same things and have the same brand of humor. Thus, they're on the same level.
Okay, I can see some references. Like I said, I haven't read very many RMs.
I have the first issue (with glow in the dark cover) upon receiving it I realised I was a bit weird
