I'm definitely looking forward to this one and will go see it when it arrives; to make it a prequel is an interesting move (Dare I say it looks more promising than Brave?)

we really don't know much about Monsters U yet other than it's a prequel and it's about mike and sully in college. but those do sound interesting.
I'm looking forward to the 'inside of the mind' movie.
Cars 2 didn't do well for Pixar last year...what makes them think Monsters U will do well knowing what happened last year?
Monsters Inc. wasn't all that funny to me and I HATED Boo (the toddler): her crying/whining got on my nerves.

monsters inc is way more popular amongst people than cars was. cars sold well because of merchandise based off the film and that prompted the sequel.
the prequel to monsters inc is because monsters inc was popular
I find this whole Cars 2 was bad so any other prequel/sequel will be bad too thing so stupid.
They're different films! Cars wasn't a great idea to begin with, Monster Inc. was an imaginative, unique idea that in my opinion still has a lot of potential and stories to tell.
Plus, the trailer made me chuckle so it's done its job.

even if cars 2 did poorly with critics it still managed to do decent with box office gross. all their films have thus far.
monsters inc was my favourite non-toystory pixar move so I might just go and see this.
I loved Monsters Inc. but I have to agree this is kind of unnecessary. That said it's still highly likely I'll really enjoy it. It's Pixar after all(let's forget about cars 2 [even though I never saw it])
Well, I saw the trailer for 'Monsters University'...even though I laughed at Sully turning Mike into a disco ball...I might pass next year.
"I actually laughed, but on second thought, no."

Meh

i didn't see a teaser before Brave, which disappointed me.
it would've been the same one already posted no doubt, but still
Monsters, Inc. was okay. I preferred the Toy Story, Finding Nemo and The Incredibles. Probably my five favourite animated films.
Monsters, Inc. without Boo makes me go boohoo.
Wow people still aren't over that whole "hating Cars 2" phase? Man. Even if I had seen it I wouldn't give a shit anymore at this point
A monster Inc prequel sounds better than a sequel. The ending of Monsters must be preserved for all time

I think DEBBS review is the first time I've heard someone disliking Monsters Inc. and hating the Boo character.
The movie was and still is one of my favorite Pixar movies.

Been waiting a LONG time for this one! Same way I felt with Toy Story 3! My God, it was totally worth the wait!Ripped my heart at the end... :')
The more I think about this, the more I feel this will be another Pixar failure.
It's been quite a while since I saw Monsters Inc. but I remember enjoying it as a child. Since this 'franchise' wasn't milked (yet?) there's a chance it might come good! I like the idea of a prequel as well, should create some interesting stories and develop the characters more.
Things I have gained from this thread to make it seem promising:
+ the trailer; it's just nice to see them again
+ the idea that Cars 2 sucked because it was a response to merch sales, so MU might not suck as it's a response to MI being a good/successful film
+ my belief that it's been a long time in the making / approval stages a la TS3, so might have a lot of great material. Not gonna lie; I'm really excited to see this film. It's the perfect choice really, to elaborate on their ORIGINAL world as opposed to a new and substandard venture. Sometimes reviving old characters relieves the stress on their reception and lets the writers jump right in and do something they love.(yeah, I'm a writer)
My fears:
- that they really have nowhere to go with this prequel idea / it won't even make sense
- that it will be too different in terms of style, seeing as if there's no Boo (and there REALLY is no Boo, because she wouldn't be born yet), what else can be missing?
- that it will be so bad that it devalues the whole franchise enough to kill nostalgia for people (if my generation aren't showing their kids Monsters Inc because they can only recall how crappy the prequel was, I'll be mad. Seems to happen wherever people retrospectively fail to trust their own judgement as a kid and believe a show always sucked because of the reboot.)
Fingers crossed...
