The Simpsons = A Washed Up Child Actor?

So, here's something that randomly popped in my head today. In a way, The Simpsons is kind of like a child actor who grew up and is no longer that successful. From ages 1 to 9, he/she entertained fans all around the world because he was witty and cute. Then eventually, as he/she got older, he/she lost his/her star power and a lot of his/her fans. Now he is a creepy 23 year old who, despite his/her fame being long passed, he/she continues to get work and have a large number of fans. However, most internet forums do not like him/her as an adult and agree that he lost a lot of his/her charm when he/she grew up. Others assume that he/she either died or retired a long time ago and get surprised when they hear that he/she is still getting work. Many legions of fans prefer to remember this old child actor as the adorable little boy/girl that won their hearts in the 1990s.

    Yeah, random thread, I know.

Yeah, I thought about that, too, but the Simpsons struck me as being rather masculine. I will change the wording if this thread gets too bad, though.

Gives Mickey Rooney's appearance in the episode Radioactive Man a sweet irony.

I don't know about this analogy... Because while people might still be watching Home Alone and remembering what how funny MacCauley Culkin was, I don't know if anyone would really pay to see a new movie he were in. I guess I can see the side of the argument that people might still have fond memories of the classic days, though.

Frankie Muniz isn't a washed up child actor... He's a professional racecar driver. He's moved on and the Simpsons hasn't.

Good analogy, but you forget one thing. The public is still adoring the washed up child actor. I think a more accurate reflection would be a bunch of superstars past their prime who still manage to retain a sizable fanbase and press attention while the majority of the public hate their guts.

    YES!

Basically, The Simpsons is a former child moviestar who got his own reality show on TLC.

The Simpsons is that old uncle you have at family gatherings. It still thinks it's hip and cool even though it's best days were almost two decades ago, and it loves to live off that famous past of theirs.

Analogy-wise I guess a good one Ive heard is The Simpsons as someone who's almost dead and on life support for years and years.

I think the best analogy is this.

    The Simpsons = malt whiskey

for some reason i hate the life support analogy.

can't the simpsons just be the simpsons, a show that was amazingly consistent in terms of stories and jokes for the first few seasons but each season since has been overstaying its welcome

No. The range of quality is to broad.

    Seasons 1-9 - Classic era
    10-12 - Scully era
    13-16 - Silver age
    16.5 - Into the abyss
    17 - The shit abyss
    18-24 - Zombie Simpsons

but that's literally what the show is; a show that had amazing stories and hilarious jokes for the first 8-9 seasons, but each season since is either getting worse or staying at at least somewhat bad quality. why the need for so many analogies

Isn't this just another thread that boils down to "The Simpsons was good but now it is bad"?

Yes. This is exactly what that is. I just put a metaphor down because I was too lazy to be original.
