"Sing the Blues" or "The Yellow Album"

Sing the Blues has some great ones, but along with some absolutely awful ones.

    10. Sibling Rivalry 7/10

    overall: 4.4/10

The Yellow Album has a bunch of great ones. Every Summer and Ten Commandments are the stand outs for me.

    1. Love? 10/10
    2. Sisters Are Doin' It For Themselves 6/10
    3. Funny How Time Slips Away 0/10
    4. Twenty-Four Hours A Day 10/10

There's no in between with you, kind of harsh on some of The Simpsons Sing The Blues songs. The Simpsons Sing The Blues is a classic but the Yellow Album is overlooked.

Just for sentimental sake I'll say Sing The Blues.

Keep in mind I don't actually own the Yellow Album. I only listened to it at a friend's house shortly after it was released and Sing the Blues I still only have on cassette(CD's were expensive in 1990) and haven't listened to it in its entirety in years. I'll have to try and get the album off Itunes someday.

I like both albums, but the Yellow Album is a more catchy CD. The best song, which is on the CD Single of "Deep Deep Trouble" is the Jazzy Jeff Remix of DDT.

I'd rank the Albums as: Sing the Blues, B; Yellow Album, A-

Anyway, there's actually two versions of the Yellow Album, the commercial release, and the test pressing.

The commercial release is fucked up because the pitch/speed of the songs are sped up and the Simpsons sound like the Chipmunks, it also lacks "My Name is Bart", which is almost as good as "Deep Deep Trouble" and better than "Do the Bartman."

The tracklisting for the test pressing is:

    01. Love
    02. Sisters are doing it for Themselves (correct pitch)
    03. Funny How time Slips Away (correct pitch)
    04. Twenty Four Hours a Day (correct pitch, but the sped up version on the released version is better, IMO)
    05. The Ten Commandments of Bart (slightly weaker rhythm section compared to the released version)
    06. I Just can't Help
    07. My Name is Bart (Lost Simpson track which is a parody of My Name is Prince)
    08. She's Comin' Out Swinging (Longer fade out than commercial release)
    09. Hail to thee Kamp Krusty (This version has the ending where the kids sing the disclaimer, which is left off the commercial release)
    10. Every Summer with You (Correct Pitch)
    11. Anyone Else (Correct pitch)
Well, ya'know if you stay positive and forget about trivial things like "proper characterization," "Satire," and "emotional depth" watching new Simpsons episodes can be a seemingly enjoyable lie.

do you know why they sped it up?

yeah My Name is Bart was an odd choice to leave off.

I think the pitch/speed issue was a mastering error that was approved without anyone double checking. As for "My name is Bart" being left off, back in 1991/1992, Prince changed his name to a symbol and he was referred to "The artist formerly known as Prince". By the time "My Name is Bart" was supposed to come out in 1992 on the YA, it made no sense to have that track since parodying Prince would've been out of date. (Why it didn't come out in 1998 on the YA when the rest of the CD was finally released is baffling. Six years had passed since "My Name is Prince" and not many people would've remembered MNiB was supposed to be a parody of anything.)

    Here's the song:

I still haven't gotten around to listening to the Yellow Album, but The Simpsons Sing the Blues is pretty good. "Look at All Those Idiots" is definitely the stand-out song on the CD, but I really love Yeardley Smith's rendition of "God Bless the Child". "I Love to See You Smile" just reeks of the Randy Newman influence, but is still a nice little song. Stuff like "Do the Bartman" and "Deep Deep Trouble" always remind me why we moved past the sound of the late 80s / early 90s.
