People Who Actively Hate The Simpsons

Do any of you have any friends/family members, or know people, who actively hate The Simpsons? A lot of my friends claim to hate it, and it pisses me off because they judge the entire show on one/two episodes, and of course they're from the post-classic seasons so when I tell then "Wait, there are good episodes!" they pass it off. I was watching a s18 episode with my best friend a couple years ago; it was "Rome-Old and Juli-Eh" and he laughed at a couple parts but I could tell he didn't like it. And he hasn't watched an episode since.

All of my friends who hate the show only hate it because they've only seen the post-classic episodes, and I can't convince them to watch the classics. They're all watching South Park and Family Guy and American Dad, and if there isn't a joke a minute, or swear, or sexual reference, or anything else like that, then they dismiss it. Makes me mad.

Are there people who actually dislike the show as a whole though? I can get disliking the later seasons, but also actively disliking the first 8 (maybe 9) seasons? Is such a thing possible?

I know friends who think it sucks now. But I've never heard my friends say anything bad about the whole show, but my brother when he sees me watch it, says to me that it's a kids show and implies that I'm a little kid for watching it.
Everybody's a jerk. You, me, this jerk. That's my philosophy.

Exact opposite, most of my family loves new Simpsons.

All my friends dislike the present show (although not active hate like me, because they have more important things to care about) and like the classic era.

Barely anyone I know even watches it. So I highly doubt they've even seen most classic episodes.

I'm in the same boat as you, buddy. I love the fact that I can watch the show and enjoy it and not have anyone give me crap about it.

I don't think my friends notice a difference in quality other than one of them. Some are casual fans and the others are all all right with the show, but they just don't go out of their way to watch it. I don't really care what they think though because peoples' tastes are different. For example, I have yet to find how Seinfeld is different from any other sitcom.

"There's a couple of things they don't teach you in Harvard Business School. One is how to cope with defeat; the other is how to handle a shotgun. I'm going to do both right now."

I don't get how there can be people who haven't seen classic episodes, maybe it's different in the US but in the UK it's just such a large part of TV and culture, I don't know anyone who hasn't seen at least a decent chunk of the classic episodes, and most people I know dislike the main episodes.

Back when I was in college the older couple I was staying with absolutley despised the show and thought along the same lines as George H.W. Bush that it was a bad influence and should be taken off the air.

My mom says she doesn't like it, but whenever she watches it with me, she laughs and seems to enjoy it. (Even with modern Simpsons episodes sometimes)

Most people I know who like the show rarely, if ever watch the new episodes though.

@Handsome B. Wonderful yes, but I thought this was about people you know who hate the show and this was the only instance of me encountering people with this view point. As many of said most of my friends don't hate it, they just think it has dropped in quality.

My Grandmother, being the old-fashioned lady she is, doesn't like The Simpsons at all. Sometimes she'll watch parts of it with me, but it usually offends her. She's offended by Bart's pranks, among other things.

    Seasons 1-9 - Classic era
    10-12 - Scully era
    13-16 - Silver age

If you lack the interest, then you're not going to bother watching. I haven't seen such "classic films" as Star Wars or Indiana Jones or watched a whole episode of a popular TV show like House, 24 or American Idol because I just don't give two shits.

My parents didn't like the show, even though they did watch it a bit in the early seasons. To be fair though, they aren't much into cartoons in general whether they're kids cartoons or not.

I know quite a few people my age who think The Simpsons is a "Steaming pile of eye cancer"

Family Guy's pretty well accepted though...

    Just be thankful

My uncle is one such individual who, being quite the brutish, hard-ass of a hypocritical neanderthal, claims OFF is rude and such and that he won't allow his daughter to watch it or her cousins when they're over (we still did but still...). Hell, being the hate-filled, angry bastard I am, I even started to reconsider my love for him to feeling that perhaps if he were to die, nothing but good could come out of such an event as no one would have to deal with his bs anymore but I just can't bring myself to tell him that, especially since I still have some love for him. Also, it's not like he hasn't done good things, either, but his personality in being quite an impossible person to deal with tends to blind me & others with rage (me, moreso).

Other than him, though, everyone else in my family tends to enjoy OFF.

I used to follow a Twitter account called something like Shit No One Says and one of their tweets was "I like The Simpsons more than Family Guy." Needless to say, I kindly disagreed with them and then proceeded to unfollow.

i either follow that account, or it's been suggested. a lot of it's kinda dumb anyway (As is twitter as a whole, honestly).

anyway, I can't believe I'm the only person with friends who are willing to judge an entire series based only on two or so episodes. my friends just don't know when to give a show a chance and when not to

My girlfriend doesn't like The Simpsons, but it's all good. She puts up with me liking it. She wears some Simpsons shirts that I sent her and she watched the movie and some of the episodes for me.

Well I'm really the only person of my friends or family that even watches the series and they are all aware of the common perception of the series for the past 15 years and how much I disagree with it, basically because I blab on about the series too much. I've met people who prefer Family Guy's style of course and some who only liked the classic era, but it is very rare that I meet anyone to get opinions on the show regardless of era anymore outside the internet.

Most people my age grew up being exposed to the classic episodes. We still would have been a little on the young side when they were originally airing, but there was once a time where almost all the syndicated episodes were classic episodes. So I think most people have an appreciation for those days. My one group of friends like to watch the Simpsons together sometimes and that's a lot of fun. I do know some people are surprised it's still on though, given that it hasn't been relevant in the longest time.

My best friend refuses to watch it. She has never seen an episode but doesn't want too because she feels it's ''bad''. She always says "I hate The Simpsons".

Also I hate this new generation who like Family Guy more than the Simpsons. Say what you will about modern Simpsons but modern Family Guy is MUCH worse/lazy. I mean Family Guy has to be the most lazyily written show on television and they re-use the same gags to DEATH (cool-whip, Chicken Fight, Peter falls says ''ahhh'' for 3 minutes, cleveland falling out the bathtub, Meg abuse, etc) I mean just pisses me off kids/teens today pass off Simpsons (new or old) for a crappy show like Family Guy only because it's overly violent and sexual. They rather take a simple sex or fart joke over a cleverly written piece of satire...shame really. But I guess this generations feabile minds can't handle Simpson style jokes..

I'm not sure if my brother actually hates it, but he definitely doesn't understand my obsession with it. I don't watch the newer episodes, which he probably thinks they're the ones I'm referring to. He's 13 years younger than me, and probably too young to remember the "classic" episodes. I have all of those on DVD and I keep telling him it was much different show back them but he's too addicted to Family Guy.

Homer: Come on, Maude. The human wang is a beautiful thing!

Weird I thought of the same thread idea..

The only person I know who "hates" it is my grandmother. Whenever I was watching it she reminded everyone how much she hated the show and cartoons in general. She did say once that it made her laugh.

Other than that I don't know anyone who still watches it except one of my friend and I guess he likes the new ones as much as the older ones. Nother one of my friend hates King of the Hill with a passion and acts the same way than my grandmother ablut that show.
