It's a movie. A fictional movie. With alien bounty hunters, no less. You expect gritty realism?

A New Hope > Empire Stikes Back > Return of the Jedi >>>> Revenge of the Sith = Phantom Menace >> Attack of the Clones

I just can't sit through Attack of the Clones. Terrible movie and I really try to love the prequels.

Me and my friends once tried to make a Star Wars spoof. I wrote the script. We're pretty cool dudes.

We have dates for Episode II and III 3D. September 20th, 2013 and October 11th, 2013 respectively.

Sounds great but I'm still surprised they didn't keep it to one release per year; will try to watch both if possible. Also, this means we'll get to Episode IV 3D sooner.

If I'm able I'd like to see Episode III in 3D. I saw it in theaters back in 05 as my only Star Wars film, still have the ticket stub. Being the next one I see too seems fitting somehow. I like Episode II, but honestly not enough to pay the ridicuclous price for a 3D movie ticket.

I saw all the prequel movies when they were released so I'll see both II and III. Looking forward to IV, V & VI the most, though (it will be awesome seeing the original trilogy on the big screen, especially since I haven't before).

They will also be available to see in 2D, right? All the Disney re-releases were, I think.

No, as far as I know, the Episode 1 re-release was just 3D so I think the upcoming ones will be too (they may have released it in 2D as well in some select places so I might be wrong).

And speaking about Ep.I, it has a bunch of side characters I will never forget, like Watto, Boss Nass and this dude:

Upon a recent rewatch and careful deliberation, I changed my mind.

A New Hope > Empire Strikes Back > Return of the Jedi >>> Sith >>>>>>> Phantom Menace >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Attack of the Clones. (the amount of >'s accurate up to 0.1 of an >)

Phantom Menace is a bit of a pointless movie really.

A New Hope is too slow moving to be better than Empire, imo...

I think I'll have to disagree with ANH being slow; I always found it to be rather well-paced.

By the way, how would you rank the six movies?

On personal favorite or as films? As films I'd go: Empire, Hope, Jedi, Sith, Clones, Menace.

Well, ranking them as films do after all reveal which one is your personal favorite (or does it not?)

Revenge of the Sith is my favorite because Palpatine is my favorite character. As a film though it is only the best prequel.

I don't think it's that pointless, much since it introduced important characters and stuff that would come into play later or at least be referenced.

This makes me wonder, though: would the saga work without Episode I (thereby making it start off with Episode II)?

I think it could, but I'm no writer...you'd still need to set-up the sith during the first film. Maybe the second could be a war film set during the clone wars. Sith would be relatively similar....

Yeah, good read. It is kinda weird how pointless the first movie is in a lot of respects, especially in regards to Qui-Gon and Darth Maul. The only thing you lose by skipping Episode I is the Anakin origin story, and a lot of other movies don't go that far back in their origin anyway.

Depends on what you mean by 'origin' though. With Episode 1 you get the birth story and all that, but I think the real story starts in Episode 2, because in the end, it's a lot more about the origin of Darth Vader.

Yeah, that was more what I meant about origin. Like, if a James Bond movie does a flashback to show a little bit about how the villain came to be, they don't generally flashback to when they were 8 years old and had their bike stolen from them.

Now that was indeed one very interesting read; I've heard about the IV, V, I, II, III & VI viewing order before (making the prequels be like one long flashback) but I never really thought of what would happen if you removed Ep.I from the equation and that page looked further into it and did a good analysis. It seems like it's not a lot that would be lost, but the Tattoine stuff in Menace with Shmi and Watto complicates things the most. Qui-Gon wouldn't be there either and just be mentioned, it would arise questions with that scene in II when Dooku is talking to Obi-Wan about Qui-Gon (but Qui-Gon gets mentioned as having been Obi's master at the end of III so it's maybe not that of a big loss; I dunno).

Should probably try that viewing order at some point; it would be an interesting experiment.

Dammit. Next they'll probably announce that Ep. VII will be postponed as well due to JJ Abrams scheduling conflicts or something.

Not only that, but we have to wait way longer to see the original trilogy on the big screen again (and I'm sure 3D is here to stay, it's passed the gimmick stage by now).

I had no idea that Yoda was based on Albert Einstein.

I can't vote on this poll because I have never seen the original trilogy, and I really don't feel like hunting down VHS copies to watch them.
