    From Homer's Triple Bypass

Homer: Kids, I wanna give you some words to remember me by, if something happens. Let's see...er...Oh, I'm no good at this.
    Lisa: [whispers into Homer's ear]
Homer: Bart, the saddest thing about this is I'm not going to see you grow up...
    Lisa: [whispers into Homer's ear]
Homer: ...because I know you gonna turn out well, with or without your old man.
    Bart: Thanks, Dad.
    Homer: And Lisa...
    Bart: [whispers into Homer's ear]
Homer: I guess this is the time to tell you...
    Bart: [whispers into Homer's ear]
Homer: ...that you're adopted and I don't like you... Bart!
    Bart: [whispers into Homer's ear]
Homer: But don't worry, because you've got a big brother who loves you and will always look out for you.
    Lisa: Oh, Dad.

    this 'Make Room for Lisa'-moment:

Lisa: Oh, it's not your fault. I know we love each other, Dad,
but we're two very different people and, much as I hate to
say it, as time goes on, we'll probably just drift further
    and further apart.
Homer: Oh, Lisa, honey, I won't ever let that happen.
(camera pulls back to show that Homer is standing on the
escalator, which is carrying him away from Lisa)

I find most of the emotional content from season 2 underrated in general. Here is another example:

The ending to "Lisa's Wedding" (Season 6) is pretty emotional for me.

The completely earnest and sincere way Homer delivers that line always gets me. Man he's cunt nowadays in comparison y'know?

The scene from Bart Gets Hit By a Car when Homer leaves Marge. Which is also the worst part of that episode

    Always gets me too!

And the end of Homer Loves Flanders, when Homer sticks up for Flanders in church - the way Flanders turns to him with tears of gratitude and thanks him for being a true friend.

Good topic. We always here of the same scenes - the one at the end of 'And Maggie Makes Three' as well as the last scene of 'Mother Simpson' for example.

I don't know if it counts as underrated, but my vote would be the last scene of 'Lisa's First Word'. Homer is talking to Maggie as he tucks her in: "The sooner kids talk, the sooner they talk back. I hope you never say a word." Then Maggie says "Daddy" as she slowly closes her eyes. It has made me weep on multiple occasions. It isn't sad, but very sweet.

That one gets mentioned a lot, as with some of the other posts in this thread (Duffless, Lisa's Wedding, Bart Sells His Soul.)
This scene doesn't get mentioned too often:

Sweet Seymour Skinner's Badasssss Song is pretty underrated in terms of emotion. Hell, when Skinner looks at the school and tears up, I nearly do myself.

Perhaps I'm being a little biased as it's one of my favourite episodes but Season 21's "O' Brother, Where Bart Thou?" is very emotional at times.

take this scene for example where Bart oversteps the mark by fiddling with Marge's contraceptive pills.

Marge: Bart, you've always been a handful but you've never interfered with my reproductive freedom, why now?
Bart: (almost on the verge of tears) I just wanted a baby brother, but Dad said i was one [ something in pig latin]. ( on the actual verge of tears) I just wanted what Lisa and Maggie have!
Marge: Aw, Barty I'm sorry but your father and I think three kids are just perfect.
Bart: What about what I want?

that bought tears to my eyes.

Bart defying the other guys and cheering Lisa on in "The Secret War of Lisa Simpson" has always been one of my favorites. It's a very genuine portrayal of sibling relationships: they might bicker and tease each other, but at the end of the day, they always have each others' backs.

I agree with the country club moment; I almost got misty-eyed when Homer said that.

And this moment tends to get me, especially when Bart starts feeling bad and yells after Lisa:

"There's a couple of things they don't teach you in Harvard Business School. One is how to cope with defeat; the other is how to handle a shotgun. I'm going to do both right now."

I don't how "underrated" it is but I really like how the emotional issues are addressed in El Viaje Misterioso De Nuestro Jomer so abstractly. With Homer struggling/begging to get Marge's attention but her back is always turned on him until she eventually whisks away. elviajemisteriosodenuestrojomer2.jpg

    Dunno if underrated, but...

    Radio Bart:

    Dog Of Death

    Like Father, Like Clown

    Bart The Lover

    Homer Alone

Season 3, so full of emotions. Must be my favorite seasons.
