His cinemassacre Monster Madness each year is my favorite thing he does but I'm a fan of the video game reviews too. I wish he'd have done Friday the 13th last year as part of the sequels, but oh well....
I also liked the "You Know What's Bullshit?" episodes he used to do as well as his movie reviews. Hopefully there will be a way to view the movie he's working on now in the future.
Recently I did some extra work on the set of his upcoming film, and he's a very chill dude.
Always loved his work, except for Board James.
Ugh Board James.
Looking forward to more episodes now that he's back in his hometown.
Never heard of Board James, I'll check it out just for curiosity sake. Judging from his "making of " nerd episode he seems like good guy who really puts in a lot of effort into anything he does. How is the movie coming along?
Board James created Mr. Bucket. That's fine by me!
I also like that dungeon game where the guy in the video said 'don't turn the VCR off!' after James said along the lines of 'alright, I'm done with this!'. A comedy gold moment!
Otherwise, I like how he dresses up as a character whenever he does a game review (i.e: Batman) and the sheer brilliance of his work. Terrific writing and humor!

The nerd looks way too unhappy in those videos. I CAN'T WATCH AN UNHAPPY MAN!

Been a fan of this dude for more than six years and I don't plan on that ever changing except for the number of years. My favorites AVGN episodes tend to be the ones that give a "history lesson" backstory on whatever he's reviewing. Cheetahmen, Pong Consoles, Swordquest, and the Atari Jaguar episodes are all among my favorites of his. But I have a hard time picking a favorite episode because so many are so good.
Board James is really hit and miss, mostly miss. Only two eps I've loved were Dragonstrike and Mr. Bucket.
Monster Madness is so much fun, I always look forward to October because of it. I really hope he can do it again this year. I enjoyed last year's Sequel-a-Thon for the most part, although the Dracula and Frankenstein parts were a bit boring. I know he loves the classic black-and-white horror stuff but it doesn't make for the most interesting videos. The Halloween videos were great, I've seen all of those movies and pretty much agreed with him on all of them.
but yeah I still say I've never heard of him.
any good recent videos of his, @Steve or @The_Thompsons?
i haven't watched any for like six months.
The "making of" he did recently is quite interesting and the Nintendo World Championship episode is good for laughs. His R.O.B the Robot episode though is probably his most creative, in the "making of" he explains that it took him a good month or two to complete it.
Haha that's about exactly how long it's been since the last episode. Show's been on hiatus because of the movie, but James recently said there's probably a new episode coming this month or next.
2011 was undoubtedly his weakest year, granted it only had 9 episodes but about half of them were clunkers. The Making Of episode was great, very informative and insightful. I also REALLY liked the Nintendo World Championships ep. One of his funniest. But other than those, it was a very bland year.
I catch his show on You Tube so I'm behind when viewing these. I only caught the Nintendo World Championship episode a few weeks ago.
I enjoy him enough but I haven't really liked any of his vids in almost a year now. Only thing I've watched is the mailbag ep which was hilarious but it's not really a segment he seriously planned. Also not into the skits and shit where he and his friends just fuck around instead of talking about whatever the video is meant to be about. I like videos where he gets extremely nerdy over factual details and whatnot. I'm not sure whichhad my fave reaction of his, but I know there is a moment that I just loved. Maybe a moment where a game just straight up froze on him.
My fiance always makes sure we catch Monster Madness, though. It's the one thing I look forward to and I've always enjoyed various other movie reviews of his. And I'm not super interested in the movie but I'm sure he'll make me watch that, too. I don't watch any of the vids his friend makes, barely even read the articles his wife posts.
Sounds like I dislike the guy but I don't. Just not as big a fan as I used to be. I both don't get jazzed about his content anymore and forget to even look at the site most times. I haven't even looked at Zero Punctuation, which I still enjoy, in a long time but he put up Max Payne 3 today so I gotta see it.
I only lasted about 30 seconds into one of Mike's reviews. I've only really checked out his site a few times, I don't know why but I'll visit more often just to check in on the progress of the movie. I also wasn't that impressed by Board James either.
Wow an AVGN and a Nostalgia Critic thread on NHC!
I feel like my avatar is being celebrated...
Funny thing, I've first heard of the AVGN by reading this board..
My favorites of his are the Plumbers Don't Wear Ties for the look he gives to the tv when the narrator turns into a chicken and Zelda II for how he sums up the game as not being a bad one but very frustrating one.
I saw a copy of Simon's Quest that was abandoned, I picked it up because I could only think of "This game sucks!"
Edit: I forgot he made videos this year after Spielberg Games. I still enjoyed those as much as the others and he was doing them during the movie. Him saying last week that he looks forward to do episodes soon (maybe until the movie is out) is one thing to get excited about!
Saw that Nintendo World Championships one a long while ago. Easily one of my favorite episodes by him. Also, YKWB is back!
You tube is off limits where I work so I'll check it out when I get home. As long as it's not about DVD/Blu-Ray/CD packaging it should be another entertaining installment.
It seems that he's trying to go for a more comedic approach, seeing the Bullshit man more often, and actually using illustrations drawn by motherfucker Mike instead of stock images. I can't say I support this, but it's still fine.
I agree, it is a different approach and I like the older episodes better, but this is still good.
I first heard of AVGN just through random conversation at work during lunch about five years ago. We were talking about difficult video games and someone brought up the Silver Surfer Episode of AVGN. Been a fan ever since

he makes poop jokes so hes cool
Anyways back to our regularly scheduled programming...
I guess the movie James is working on is about the AVGN after all. Back in January or February when I first heard about it I was lead to believe it wasn't about the nerd. It'll hopefully be out next summer on DVD.
Yeah I think I'm on board with most of the people in this thread. Loved many of the earlier episodes, enjoy the more informative episodes and from recent episodes my favorite was the Nintendo World Championship one. I still fairly loyally watch almost all of his stuff, even if the overall quality of the nerd episodes has come a bit down.
I got into watching AVGN by accident with my brother and one of our friends - I remember when we saw the Karate Kid episode. I was hooked immediately and soon was my brother too. I think this was like around 2005.
Like I said earlier, I rarely checked out his site and mostly just watched the nerd episodes on You Tube. I recently went back to his site and got caught up on all the goings on with the movie. The release plans were only divulged just a couple of weeks ago.
