    Space Ghost Coast to Coast

Discuss and quote the greatest animated stock footage superhero Cartoon Network late-night talk show ever!

Space Ghost: I would like one stamp, please.

Mail Carrier: That'll be 32 cents.

Space Ghost: ...I don't have any money.

My dad for whatever reason loved whenever Zorak got blasted. Loved Brak too. I enjoyed the series but forget most of it. It has been too long. I seem to recall an evil Space Ghost with a goatee and some bug guy being involved.

Evil Space Ghost with a beard = Chad Ghostal, which is a soundalike to Space Ghost's actual name, Tad Ghostal.

Oh, no, that bug guy's name was Lokar, acting as another, smaller Space Ghost.

One of my favorite quotes from the early seasons

I had to get this whole show on DVD, the early ones have laughed scattered throughout, but seasons 4 to 7 have a laugh-a-second ratio. Shame they never released the final season, but they put the episodes up on a special make your own DVD on the official site for twenty bucks and I made my own last season DVD!

I loved Cartoon Planet when I was about 6-7 years old, particularly because of Brak. Always watched Space Ghost Coast to Coast as well to see Space Ghost and Zorak and occasionally Brak, but I didn't get the humor as well as I did with Cartoon Planet. They relaunched Cartoon Planet this spring but Space Ghost isn't a part of it, so that element of it was really missing the one time I checked it out. But yeah, I picked up Volume 3 of Space Ghost at a DVD exchange store, and I definitely need to put that back in. Great show. Don't they still do occasional commercials with the characters here and there?

Occasionally they do commercials and things with them, and good job picking up volume 3, that's the best one that's available in stores, 1 is boring as hell and 2's just plain not worth it, 3, 4, and 5 are the best, and the last two were made exclusive to the adult swim shop, which doesn't exist anymore. So you got to pay 150 dollars just for four, and I paid 15 dollars for both of them as a deal.

On that side, I'm not a huge fan of Cartoon Planet, actually, in small doses it's really great, like people say with almost any early CN show and [as] show, but I can love ATHF, Brak, and SGC2C in huge doses, it doesn't matter how much I watch it, really.

Let me give you the run-down here. Volume one is a seriously bad DVD, the episodes are boring, the guests are boring, every episode is cut in some way or another, some are completely gone, just overall bad.
Volume 2 is a little better, still cut up slightly, relies on jokes a little more, but generally probably wouldn't be for you, Jerkass Homer/Disco Stones.
Volume 3 is when it gets a lot better, and relies a lot more on jokes than mooching off its bizarre concept. It has like 10 more episodes than the first two volumes, funnier, more well-known guests, and a more adult swim vibe, even though it would be four years before it was created.
Volume 4 is what happens when they actually try to contain plots within a ten minute animated superhero talk show. That said, it's wonderful, and very experimental, one episode almost plays out like a funny and over-the-top 1960s Space Ghost episode, where he meets the guy who actually originally played him in said show. However, it's not available anymore for sale for a good price, it was sold exclusively on adultswim.com's shop, which has shut down recently. Amazon sells what little copies they have left for around 150 dollars.
Volume 5 throws the interview completely out of the window, and just lets the "guest" go along for the ride, such as Stephen Wright being eaten by giant replicating pods, Conan O'Brien accusing Space Ghost of being a space man who choked on a muffin, the band Hansen riding in Space Ghost's phantom cruiser, trying to get a comb for their hair, witnessing him mow down the Tooth Fairy, and Space Ghost having to kill them, only to find out he killed a replica Tooth Fairy built to look like her. Bob Costas does play-by-play as Space Ghost battles space brains with googly eyes, Space Ghost telling Jerry Springer an epic tale of how he battled ninjas, a ceiling tile, and "does sex" with Sarah Jessica Parker. The last episode on disc one, and before the show went to adult swim, was John Benjamin, of Bob's Burgers, Home Movies and Archer fame, being kidnapped by Moltar and Zorak, giving Space Ghost a list of unreasonable demands in the form of a film trailer. Again, adultswim.com exclusive, super rare, etc.

I think I've given you a good enough taste of this truly epic show. If you really want to see the last two volumes episodes, just torrent or even simply look them up, or something. I think someone uploaded a majority on YouTube.

I honestly have no clue. Volume three actually sold really well, if I recall, and volume four was a lazy, one disc, pirate-looking DVD volume that was actually delayed for a year and a half just because they're lazy asses.

It had only two bonus features, one, a different version of the Stephen Wright episode with unfinished backgrounds and character models, and Kitties. Which is probably the best special feature ever. It had an easter egg of George Lowe, the voice actor of the Ghost, dressed as Space Ghost talking and petting a tiny pony. Here's Kitties.

Volume five came out completely unannounced a year later and threw me the hell off. It was a good, two disc set, with a select few of features and easter eggs, among these are a "raw" Conan O'Brien and Busta Rhymes interview, alternate ending for the Stephen Wright episode in which Dave Willis dressed in a Colonial outfit tells the viewer to go on eBay and bid on an actual ending to see what happens to the gang. I don't know anything else other than that's actually true, and the money was donated to charity or something, and an easter egg where Seth McFarlane talks to some dweeb in a poorly made Star Trek outfit. It's actually hilarious. Disc 1 has the last episodes of the CN era, disc 2 has the first season of the [adult swim] era.

I forgot to mention, volume six. Volume six was never to be. They only had seven episodes left to release on DVD, plus a select few that weren't yet on DVD due to licensing issues at the time, they also made about fifteen Gametap exclusive episodes that were five minutes long, and you could only be a paying member to see, so that would've been a good feature. Alas, even though I held out hope for a while, now that the shop's closed, it's apparently never to be. It's okay, though, the adult swim shop let you make your own DVD of sorts and I put the last few episodes on DVD plus the only-aired-once-and-never-put-on-DVD pilot of the Brak Show on it. The first episode of the final season, Baffler Meal, is on volume two of ATHF, if you haven't seen it yet. It's a good 'un.

bullshit; the episodes are generally boring, missing scenes and episodes, it's not only bad for its episodes but for the animation on the packaging and missing stuff

I only saw the episode where he interviewed Matt Groening. He didn't seem too interested in that show.

I watched Space Ghost when I was a little back back in the mid to late 1960's and also watched 'Space Ghost Coast To Coast' when it used to be on CN.

Well, I don't know about that. I've known this dude for about two years now, and he's had all this stuff up there for a good year, at least. If I recall correctly I actually requested uploads of some of these by him on his YouTube, before I got the DVDs. And A Space Ghost Christmas, I thought, was one of the easiest ones to find on the internet. Had that one in high quality for a good five years. I highly watched this channel until I got those DVDs. Now they are most interesting for me to see the differences in the DVD release and the original/subsequent airings.

Edit: Oh, and episodes that aren't on DVD at all, of course.

Thanks for the link. I imagine I'll fly through volume 3 pretty quickly this summer, and since you suggest not buying volumes 1 and 2, along with the fact the used DVD shop likely won't have 4 or 5, this link is great.

Always willing to make a Space Ghost fan out of someone.

I don't think EVERY single episode is on here, though. I don't think Sphinx is, that episode has Harland Williams and Mike Judge.

Thanks for the link, Handsome B. Wonderful. I know very little about Space Ghost Coast to Coast but it seems as though it'd be up my alley. After all, I'm usually a fan of the sort of stuff on [adult swim].

I'm actually watching Harvey Birdman at the moment (about half way through season three). Sometimes I'm like 'meh' and sometimes I'm laughing a lot. It depends on whether I've had a smoke or not I guess.

This shows a little like that too. Some are really great and some are bland. The middle of the show is definitely the best though. 4-6.
