    Random discussion thread: Y2K

So, basically, discuss anything about the Y2K problem - stories you remember, what you were doing back then, etc. Granted, some of you are too young to remember 1999, but I'm sure you still might have something to say about it.

Me, personally, I faced burning roads, rivers exploding, calculators transformed into Scud missiles. There was nothing I could do. Actually, I was only 7 years old back in 1999 and my memories of that year are fuzzy at best, but I did know for sure what a computer was and how to use one. I remember adults talking about what was happening and not really understanding it AND I finally did understand it (sort of) when some kids slightly older than me told me that the computers were going to dissapear. XD

    Only 7? Christ I'm old.

Anyways I knew it was a media creation and only really old computers (10 years old or older in most cases) were affected by the bug. Other than that it was another typical New Year's Eve of drunkeness.

Was probably doing something any kid my age would do. Run around and play with GI Joes.

I remember the hullabaloo around it and teachers in school talking days before about how it was all a load of crap/nothing to really worry about, so I didn't. I was only 10 though at the time. I can recall the animated shows that referenced it like Family Guy and The Simpsons.

I was 4, and I remember everything. Everyone in my household was calm while everyone on television was panicking

apparently my grandmother made my sister (Who at the time was 13/14) go to bed and my sister said "You're going to make me go to bed on our last day on Earth?" jokingly.

that's all i remember and that might be fake. so there's that.

I was in high school. A friend of mine told me a story where he was at a huge party, and right as everyone started counting down the last minute, he and a friend went down to the basement and flipped the circuit breaker right at the count of zero. Wish I'd been there, must have been awesome to hear them all flipping out like bitches

Well... I can remember Y2K being a big deal everywhere but the thing I remember most was something on Toonami relating to it, I guess Y2K wasn't anything special to our family.

Found a Y2K-related story on the web today. That's just messed up how they were ripping people off like that.

In 1999, I saw an advertisement for "special" automobile jumper cables that would make your car Y2K-compliant. The ad said you just needed jump-start your car with them using a Y2K-compliant car as the booster, and your car would become Y2K compliant! Of course, they cost twice what "regular" jumper cables cost.

I was only 7 then so I don't remember much of anything about it. I sorta remember talks about computers worldwide crashing as 2000 came in.
Jimbo Jones: [about Homer] I hear that guy's ass has it's own congressman!
Bart Simpson: I wash myself with a rag on a stick.
Homer Simpson: [takes cap out of dryer and puts it on his head] Mmmmm... I CAN feel three types of softness.
Lisa Simpson: [from upstairs] Dad, what are you doing down there?
Homer Simpson: Washing my fat guy's hat honey!

I was getting ready to enter high school. And I was very much into computers and how they worked, etc. so due to that extra curricular knowledge, I wasn't bothered.

I think I was in 8th grade and I was at a New Years Party with a bunch of girls! I was more worried about shitting my pants because I had beans before I went to the party! Needless to say, I didn't poop myself!
