    Question about American Dad DVDs

Hey guys, I just got volume 7 of American Dad today (Haven't watched any of it yet) but was just wondering. I've noticed that all the recent US releases of American Dad sets have the word "Uncensored" on them (Like the most recent set, which has it written across the black bar on Roger's crotch) but the UK versions say "Fully Exposed" instead.

I don't know what the thinking behind it is, but it's worth noting that on some episodes in past releases here, you will still have the occasional blur or bleep (One I remember in particular is in "Phantom of the Telethon" in volume 5 which still has a bleep when Roger says "You can't touch yourself? How do you [Bleep]".

BTW, if anyone can tell me what Roger says in that line that got censored, I would be very grateful.

Do they still have these occasional bleeps on the US releases or are they completely uncensored? Another instance of this I can recall is in "American Dream Factory" on the volume 2 set. When Steve flips Roger the bird it's blurred out, yet Francine saying "Fuck" twice in "Tears of a Clooney" is uncensored.....the fuck is up with that?

    Just be thankful

All I see in this thread is one big "Fuck".

Anyways, there are certain episodes uncensored, and some are censored. I'm not sure why exactly they do it, but they do.

Maybe they're wusses and they are scared of swearwords and big ugly scenes?
Everybody's a jerk. You, me, this jerk. That's my philosophy.

Yeah, they're probably just "sorta uncensored." Like with South Park, I watched the supposedly uncensored episode of Eat, Pray, Queef on South Park Studios and you didn't really get to see Martha Stewart's big ugly queefer. So the censor probably decides, "Oh, well that's still naughty."

I'm guessing that, in those episodes, the censoring is actually part of the episode. Sometimes, it's considered more funny to do it intentionally.

I've made it through the first disc of Volume 7. Nothing is censored, not even the college students flashing their boobs in "100 A.D". Hell, there's even an extra ADR line of Principal Lewis shouting "Mothefucker" when he steals the cop car. Good to see they've gone all out this time. I was genuinely surprised they didn't censor the nudity.

Then again we seen a disturbing image of Stan walking around with his cock hanging out in the DVD version of "Cops and Roger", and the genitals of the barber in "Stan's night out", so maybe I shouldn't be as surprised.

And that is why I usually don't buy the DVDs.

I found what you were talking about Cops and Robert... http://www.movie-censorship.com/report.php?ID=778250

Please tell me that version with Stan uncensored is simply an alternative you can find in the extra features. Because why the HELL would a viewer want to see that (or an animator actually animate that)? That's not funny, it's just disturbing. Maybe they've realized they've found a market with sickos and for future episodes they can just throw in a nice shot of Haley's vagina for a DVD release and sell a ton more copies...

You don't get an option, it's just uncensored. Same goes for the barber in "Stan's night out". I assume it's the same thinking behind the totally uncensored Drawn Together DVDs where it's just a case of seeing how much they can get away with.

As for that thing about Hayley, she had to run around naked as a dare in "Franny 9/11", but it's still blurred on the DVD.

EDIT: The Flimpsons, I just looked at the link you posted. Judging by what it says the US version contains an censored/uncensored option. Although I've checked my DVDs and it appears the UK isn't safe from Stan's ding-dong.

Yeah, I don't usually buy the AD! DVDs, especially since they're not Netflix now, but I always kinda figured they had an uncensored/censored option here, because Family Guy (at least one I have, and the movie) has that as well.

Here in the UK the FG DVDs don't have an option, same goes for TCS.

I guess the creators just think we're more lax on nudity/sexual stuff...which, we are to be fair.

I've finished the entire set and the only thing that remained censored was Roger's party-ball breast implants in "Jenny Fromdabloc". Other than that, the set shows AD! in its fully uncensored glory*.

*Whether the word "Glory" is appropriate or not depends entirely on your stance on censorship.

    censorship can go (bleep) itself

Yeah, sometimes it's put in by the show itself, while some are put in by TV. I think most of the time, if it's already in the episode, it's left in.
