I confess, I watched the final 3 episodes of season 23 when I said I wouldn't.
I wish I didn't.
I especially wish I didn't watch this dreck.
1/5
I can't believe I watched the whole thing. This episode is the new worst episode ever and it only took 3 episodes later for that to happen. If you think "The Greatest Story Ever D'ohed" is terrible, this is even worse. This was nothing but a vanity project for Lady Gaga.
I really mean it this time. I'm not watching any episodes past season 23 except for the series finale if FOX even ends this money-making-machine and this episode actually gave me even more will power to stick to that decision.

I'll give you unexpected, although that doesn't always equal good for me. But worked in the context? Why, because there were trains and he was depressed? I'm not really seeing your point here.
Also, what does that last part mean? Would it not have been funny if it was Apu? Or the Sea Captain? Sorry if I'm sounding harsh, but I'm kind of baffled.
Favourite/least favourite by seasons that I own (somewhat stolen from Financial Panther):
3 - Dog of Death/When Flanders Failed 4 - Lisa's First Word/So it's Come to This: A Simpsons Clip Show 5 - Secrets of a Successful Marriage/Bart's Inner Child 6 - And Maggie Makes Three/Another Simpsons Clip Show 7 - Marge Be Not Proud/Bart the Fink 8 - Homer's Phobia/The Simpsons Spin-Off Showcase 9 - King of the Hill/Trash of the Titans 10 - Wild Barts Can't Be Broken/Maximum Homerdrive
Moe is the established constantly down on his luck, suicidal, unhappy character....well the most obvious one. It makes sense that they'd use him for such a scene. I, Lord help me, thought Gaga saying even she wasn't up to the challenge of helping him was funny. The train was a bit gratuitous though.
Oh, I didn't mind Gaga's comment. It was just the train that irked me.
Moe getting hit by a train is the new Homer hitting Matt Groening's wooden cabin home in Portland.

I don't really visit the season 233234 threads anymore so I didn't really know the synopsis of this episode or anything, other than lady gaga was going to be in it. Despite a few meh jokes, the episode wasn't really that bad. I pretty much liked it up until Lisa had an abrupt attitude change and was happy again, while being incredibly insulting to Homer. I didn't find it as "masturbatory" as people are claiming. At least Lisa told gaga off as well as some sprinkled shots taken at her from Flanders, etc.... until that awful ending. Other than that, the concept was really no different than having the focus on Michael Jackson for an episode. I mean, obviously it's not anywhere near the same quality episode as that, but still.
3/5 for the jean era, I guess? Also, if you think Moe is dead for good, then wow. I can't believe that's being discussed.
.

I've been sitting here, wracking my brain, trying to process what I just watched.
Holy mother of god, it felt like it went on for two hours. I second pretty much everything Jayleno and Ruffles said.
Hashtags... hashtags EVERYWHERE.
A shit end to a shit season.
1/5.
I really didn't mind this. I know everyone is going to complain about how self indulgent it was and how its the ultimate example of the Simpsons using a guest star as themselves as the main draw, but still, it had some good moments, some great Lisa moments, and, IMO anything is better than another Homer and Marge fight or whatever.
I don't care enough about the show anymore to get upset about this episode for being self indulgent when it was obviously trying to be that. Its not like they haven't devoted whole episodes to guests stars before... because they have, several times.
3/5

I love how the Poll results look a big "F."-
First, the episode was not great, but still better than what I expected. The episode is quite long and there are tons of things I can not remember already. I must say that the beginning is the best part of the episode. I enjoyed the awards ceremony at school, Bart makes me laugh a lots in this part. Eventually, when Lady Gaga arrived in Springfield is not that bad but her song was to long and a bit boring I was a little annoyed. Lisa's behavior was a bit reminiscent the episode Moaning Lisa of first season. So I ask myself a question, why stars like Lady Gaga would help a 8 year old girl? In addition, her vision of Lisa was so anything. In the end, it was not that bad, but it is a way to end things quickly. If we would be in the golden age, Moe would be really dead, but seeing Dr. Nick back after the movie, I think we'll see our favourite bartender again. I forgot: Marge kiss Lady Gaga, I hate this kind of gag even though it has made good gag later between Homer and Marge in the bed. So, the episode has much strength as weakness, so I give 2,5/5 but a 2/5 in the poll.

Well my lowest of possible expectations really helped this episode, at least I strongly assume, because it was not the absolute abomination I was dreading. Should it exist? No, but it does and it could've been worse, at least for me. It was better than D'oh-cial Network for sure, but that's probably all this season. I was happy Gaga wasn't in every scene and Homer's 17 time thing with Lisa, climbing up the wrong tree, and getting caught cheating rants were all fine. I also enjoyed the tongue in cheek message board stuff. Lisa being against Gaga was also better than if she came immediately on board, although her sudden turn was lazy writing but that's like noticing a splinter after you've broken your leg. Skinner had a funny line involving not being good with kids which I already forget specifically too. Gaga had several awkward line readings but her voice didn't give me a headache, sorry Sacha Baron Cohen. Her best joke was the already mentioned Moe one at the end. I thought her confrontation with Flanders was a good idea but they really didn't do anything with it. Yeah that's all right now, 2 - 2.5/5 I'd say. So long Season 23, may 24 be back up to the standards of 20 - 22 at least!
PS: Both Comic Book Guy appearance hit for me.

I haven't watched it and the poll makes me happy that I didn't. I'm curious though and I'll watch it sometime this week. Not surprised this episode got a big fat 'F' anyway. The concept was always going to fail and the promos made sure of it.
This also happens in South Park? Besides Kenny (which was/is a joke) everyone else that passes away remains dead (Pip, Ms. Choksondik, Chef)
It was all right. In terms of plot structure, it reminded me a lot of the Shary Bobbins episode, except focusing specifically on Lisa instead of the whole family. I thought they were going to throw in more magic like Shary Bobbins, but they kept Lady Gaga mostly (mostly being a loose word for it) in the realm of the real world. Lady Gaga's performance was a little uneven in places, but wasn't actually that bad in comparison to other guest stars. The joke-writing, as usual, were full of uninteresting puns and wordplay jokes and there were a lot of character stereotype ones (like CBG with the Superman comic). There were a couple decent ones, though, particularly the flash mob dispersing and Lady Gaga telling off Moe.
In a behind-the-scenes way, it seemed kinda mean to make Yeardley Smith have the last big musical number, since she says she has the smallest singing range (in character). Some of the high notes were, uh, "pitchy" but she did a pretty decent job of it. Actually, this episode had some nice vocal deliveries by Yeardley in general.
Was surprised that they didn't take more jabs at message boards after the setup and the "message boards are always right" joke. It's nice to see the writers have self control, eh?
(You know, unlike the maker of the poll in this thread.)
2.5/5

0/5 If I could give it a negative, I would.
1) Lady Gaga can't voice act.
2) A brain-damaged squirrel could make a better plot.
3) Giving Gaga magical powers was nauseating.
4) I didn't laugh. Not even once.
5) In the history of the series -- with the possible exception of the Katy Perry cameo -- I can't remember a more blatant example of "Let's get a celebrity on just for the ratings".
6) I'm used to Moe trying to commit suicide, but he's never died before. Continuity fail.
7) I'm just normally inclined to hate Lisa-centric episodes as it is.
Whoever thought of this idea should be fired. From a cannon. Into the side of a building.
Seriously.
1. Why not?
2. I know you're trying to be condescending, but using an insult of an emotionally detached schoolyard bully won't help.
3. Yeah, it was.
4. Laughing does not a comedy make!?
5. Katy Perry's cameo was actually a parody of blatant celebrities, even though, yeah, they always have them.
6. Look at my previous post about this for reference.
7. Well then you really like to jump the gun, don't you.
This is just pathetic. Everytime I'm reading a thread, there is at least half of the posts insulting The Simpsons. Yelling bullshit. Not the slightest objectivity. I don't even know why I still read this. Thank god, there are still members like Oh, that's Rapsberry, Jims or H.B.W to say clever things. To be optimistic, positive.
I now, you can say everything you want, it's a forum, free talk, you have an opinion, etc... but aren't you guys tired of spitting on something that gave you decades of laugh ?
An apple by day, the doctor away
...Worst episode ever.

Well, ya'know if you stay positive and forget about trivial things like "proper characterization," "Satire," and "emotional depth" watching new Simpsons episodes can be a seemingly enjoyable lie.

Thank God.. for Rango.
Who Shot Me? is obviously either Al Jean or Matt.
"A shark on whiskey is mighty risky.. but a shark on beer.. is a beer engineer."

This was arguably salvageable before the final song. Having Lisa feel okay with herself contrary to Lady Gaga's preachings would have made a much better note to end on.
Even if this episode didn't have that song ending, it would have been more watchable with Lady Gaga replaced by some other celebrity. Some of the stuff made me downright cringe. Though I must say that the constant running joke of her changing outfits made me chuckle a bit from time to time.
In actuality, it's probably around a C-/D+ (2/5), but in principle I can't give any episode with Lady Gaga having a prominent role more than 1/5

It's not even about who likes what anymore. I mean, you like to go here... why ? Seriously, why ?
Usually, I visit a forum to have fun, to discuss about things I like, to discuss with people I like. When I read this... continuously complaining... I don't have fun, I'm not enjoying it. This is sad to see that obviously smart people spend hours and hours... repinning against something they used to love.
Ha ha, really funny, the Simpsons was awesome before, now it's just a piece of crap...
It makes years that you're all complaining... have you ever thought about... stop watching something you hate as much as possible ?

That's our Rango!
