Favorite Back To The Future Sequel

So which one of the Back To The Future sequels is your favorite: Part II or Part III?

I rewatched both of them several months ago and they were both practically equally great in my opinion. There's so much to enjoy and like in both of them so to me they're evenly matched; can't force myself to pick one over the other.

Part III and I remember feeling adamantly about it even when I was a kid. 2 always seemed kinda "okay" to me where three was very cool stuff. Maybe I enjoy it more since Doc Brown is my favorite character.

Part II, I like stuff with alternate realities and the concept of the sports almanac. Still perhaps the greatest trilogy of all-time.

I have always enjoyed Part II over the others since there's so much stuff in it. Plus you see most of part one in it and that's always been very cool to me. Part III is a very good film on its own and it's still hard to choose between the three.

    Part III

No matter what, Part II always seems to mess up the magic of the first when they go to the future.

All three movies are amazing for their own reasons. Part I is the most balanced and self-contained one, and has the best jokes. Part II is a rollercoaster and a head-scratcher with lots of very cool time-travelling twists and turns. Part III is sweet and poignant. OK now I'm rambling.

Part II is easily the better sequel. I love how weird it is, and how different it is from the other two. Both I and III are both based in one specific timeframe for the majority of the movie, and are structured similarly. But II jumps around, goes back into the first movie (which is so weird and awesome), and has so many great visual gags especially in the first act in 2015. One of my favorite scenes of the entire series is the scene between Young and Old Biff where Old Biff gives himself the Sports Almanac. We've already had Evil Biff (from alternate 1985) explain this meeting to Marty beat-for-beat, but now we get to see it happen. And Biff handing himself the book (same actor to same actor in the same frame) is such an awesome special effect that I'm still not entirely sure how they did it.

    Sooooo yeah, Part II

I loved this scene from Part II:

I always wanted the jacket and shoes!

Not a hoverboard? That was all the rage when II came out. Mattel even got letters asking if there were any available.

As others have said, seeing the first movie from different perspectives also puts II above III. When Doc Brown asks Marty where George is and Marty realizes that George is about to deck Biff is one of my favourite scenes.

A lots of years ago, my favourite of the three BTTF was the second but now, I think it's the worst of the triology but it's still one of my favourite movie in all time. So, I choose part 3.

Three more years and hopefully those self-lacing Nike's will replace those pesky, primitive do it yourself sneakers.

Well yeah! I thought it was obvious when I was talking about the whole scene!

Their whole take on the future was quite humorous, especially Doc Brown's facial procedure. If you freeze-frame on the newspaper Doc has there's a headline that mentions Queen Diana.

    Part III.
I don't like the second part, overall it's quite dull.

I like Part II better, but I think Part III is technically better. (more well written, less confusing) I just don't care for the setting.

For me, Part II. Obviously the original surpasses the sequels though.

It seems like there are many out there who doesn't like the wild west setting of Part III but personally, I really like it; the setting makes it stand out when compared to Part I and II and it just works really well.

I really love the long opening scene of Part III too, with the crawl to the slow reveal of the sleeping Doc Brown with Howdy Doody on TV. Very atmospheric. The Clint Eastwood runner is great too. The scenes at the Clock Tower party are great too. I hate using that word, great, seems so generic, but there ya go...

One thing I really liked about Part III is the initial build-up; the opening mansion scene, the mine, the gravestone and the research about what happened back in 1885, everything culminating in that drive-in movie theater scene where Marty goes back in time again.

Agreed. Everything in 1955 is wonderful buildup. What I mean about the Clock Tower Coronation though is I love how that night enfolds, from Marty and Doc getting the picture taken to Biff's ancestor crashing the dance, Marty's defense of Doc, inability to ignore being called Yellow, the free gun he gets, the talk with his ancestors afterward...just great to watch it all unfold. Biff's stupidity makes for some good lines, and seeing the Principal's ancestor there is cool too. Really I feel that way about almost all the scenes in that film though, but that part just happens to come to mind right now.

The use of the metal shield Future Biff watched in the film from Part II is also a really cool idea.

    "Kid, I own the police!"

Although Biff was a badass guy, he'll always be the only villain to eat shit more than once! That cane was badass too!
